I had my surgery in October of 2014 and I do not take a purple pill every day anymore. I do take them on occasion when I feel I may be eating a food that may not agree with my sleeve....

Here's my take on it. I hope that I don't offend anyone. But I'm just being honest. What we all have in common is the issues we've had with our weight. Some of us also have other issues i.e. insecurity, and depression. The people we are with in our relationship have learned to like those things about us. A man that is with a heavy woman might love heavy women. But he may love more what that heavy woman does to his ego. If your man can't give you a compliment after losing 80 pounds as a man in my mind it's saying that he doesn't want you losing weight. Your weight lost is now making him become insecure and he can't deal with that. It's OK for you to be insecure though to stroke his ego but he can't fathom that for himself. You need to sit him down and ask the tough questions. First starting with how your weight lost is effecting him. That's my take. Congrats on your current weight lost you should be proud of yourself. Hopefully your man can get on board and realize that not everyone is trying to lose weight to go find a new person. Good luck to you @@Sophie74656

I'm sorry to hear things are like they are.
Being a husband........I can speak from experience that I do some pretty boneheaded stuff at times.
Boneheaded by own admission, yet most likely worse from my wife's perspective. She must think I'm a moron at times.
I do feel that a lot of stuff in my marriage can be cleared up just by getting it out in the open. Discussing it.
I sure as hell don't have a crystal ball......I work long hours......usually in pain in numerous areas.......so I don't "see" a lot of stuff. Sleep-shower-work-shower-sleep.....
Things work out best for us when we stay in communication and I'm not expected see and know everything.
Long weekends and days off are different. We sort of fall into the same pace and relax.
I also think this bariatric stuff is a huge deal.....tremendous part of life that our spouses may not understand.
They may not realize how much you put into it. They may not acknowledge your efforts.
One thing for certain is the old adage, "Ignorance is bliss" is a bunch of hogwash.
As I husband, I benefit greatly from being kept in the loop on stuff.
The best times we have are a few minutes a day when we block out all else and just talk.
    No mysteries and guesswork.
    In sync.

This is something I kind of nervous about. My husband used to be obese, but through a severe exercise obsession he has gotten down to 'overweight' status. He is VERY supportive when it comes to the surgery based on knowing how hard I have tried to lose weight in the past (I gained 100 lbs since we started dating 6 years ago based on his love of fast/unhealthy food) so he sees the struggle.
Like I said, he LOVES exercise, but he doesn't push me to work out (I have been though), he will say "You don't have to go to the gym, you went yesterday". I want him to want to work out WITH me, but I know I am not on his level, and I can tell he thinks I will slow him down.
Even though he works out a lot, he is still a big junk food eater - chips, chocolate, donuts, fried food, lots of rice and bread. So even though he is supportive of me it doesn't really help when I am limiting my food intake and he is bringing home crap from work and putting it in my face
And to make it worse, he loves my Isopure drinks and Quest Protein bars and Vitamin chews haha - I don't get bothered by him eating/drinking my stuff though because I am hoping he will get into healthy eating to make my life easier (no more making two different dinner meals)
The way I see it, my decision to get surgery will cause him to change his lifestyle too. So hopefully it will be for the better for both of us. I love the support, but I want to be a team rather than a "you do your thing, I'll do mine".

rileyoshea got a reaction from BigTink2LilTink in Learned a valuable Lesson last night
So, I am almost a year out and I took my son to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch. I know I can't eat anything fried. I know I cannot eat anything that has too much spice because it will cause instant heartburn that won't go away for HOURS. I ordered a salad and I ordered the naked chicken - I had a bit of the salad and a piece of the chicken. Without even thinking, I grabbed a fried pickle and then another and yet another.
20 minutes later I was standing on the side of the highway getting sick to my stomach. My poor son was mortified. Humiliating because I know better and because he had to witness me getting sick.
However, I do firmly believe that I deserved it. I have fought a long hard battle and I have lost 100 pounds. I have never been healthier. I have never been in better physical shape since I am walking about 7 miles every day. I know what my body likes and can tolerate.
Oh - and my son has sworn off fried pickles so maybe this was a win after all.....

So last night I took my teenage daughter (14) to the movies. We were in the process of getting ready and she starts freaking out! She says " MOM!!! What the heck?!" I being in shock was like "What , what happened?!" She says "You're wearing my freaking underwear!!" I immediately flipped the tag over and sure enough they were hers! She bought the same ones as me only two sizes smaller. I, being thoroughly amused started doing the booty shaking victory dance. She however was not near as amused as I was. That's ok though because I got a new NSV AND I inherited a new pair of undies!! For some reason she insisted that I keep them! So when I say "funniest" what I really mean is funniest for me. Ha!! Winning!!!

rileyoshea got a reaction from Swampdoggie in Gall bladder issues - advice sought
Had a gastric sleeve in late October and just had my gall bladder removed at 7:45 pm last night. The pain compared to the sleeve is non existent - I took a tylenol at the hospital this morning and I haven't taken any since. The worst part is the gas bubble but nothing like the one from the surgery for the sleeve.
The surgeon offered to do the gall bladder in 3-4 weeks, but my attitude was - I am already here and I do not want to feel that pain anymore. I am glad it is behind me now as I am already healing. Good luck!

I have never posted in a forum for anything, hope I'm doing this right. I was sleeved on 2/9 and I am down 31 lbs as of 3/2. Walking on the treadmill everyday about 3 miles. Having issues getting to the 80 grams of Protein, and think that this might be the week the rapid losses begin to slow down. This surgery has changed my life, and hopefully prolonged it!!

Yes and no, we should not be consuming foods that are too sweet or high in fat, so powering through is not a good idea, I know I'm sick of plain foods but I am not trying to power through so my pouch is like it used to be before surgery, we must learn to live without sugar and high fats. We don't want to and defeat the surgery and force our bodies back to where we started.

Lol I love the Andy Warhol comparison! Omg, I would have died, I hate being front and center to begin with, let alone while I'm sick! Yea, we definitely have some crazy colorful moments now, that's for sure! I'm actually sort of happy in a way, that it happened...because I was starting to worry that I wasn't having any issues with anything. I haven't had too much nausea since month 2, unless I've eaten too fast or a little too much. I don't know how to explain it, but I'm sure we all feel it. You just want to be kept in check, like reminded that you DID just have your insides rearranged, no its NOT ok to eat this or that. I have been feeling so good lately that I forget sometimes. Except for my stall. That has thrown me back into old habits. Not so much eating, but lack of eating. I see the scale not moving and I automatically start to get depressed and guilty. Vicious cycle

I know it's not so nice but I was laughing my head off when I read your post. I so could see you going through your horrible "dumping" and yes, I have been there with vomiting. Mine was at the HOA meeting. I arrive 5 minutes late because I had to loose my Cookies right in the parking lot. So glad it was dark but I felt like a drunk throwing up on the side of the road. Then, I get to the meeting and the only seat left is front row center. Blast! Then waves of nausea keep coming and burping which I cannot control. I then realize, if I don't find a bathroom pronto I will throw up right there. Run out of the meeting, run down the hall, can't find the bathroom, ask woman at front desk in urgent voice were is bathroom and of course she goes through the 2 lefts, next right, blah, blah blah. At that point I only need her to point and I'll run that way. Get to the bathroom just in time to make it but both of my hands are covering my mouth as I am already too far gone. Yeah, after 15 minutes in the bathroom, I realize I have to go back to the meeting because my coat and purse are still there. Needless to say everyone asked if I was okay, and I am like all cool with, "I think, I ate something that didn't agree with me." LOL. No freaking kidding, I rearranged all my insides a la Andy Warhol and this is my new life. It did get better but at that point, I thought life was going to be hell.
Yes, the life of a WLS patient sure is colorful. Have to take in stride and roll with the punches. No more energy shots for you Luna. No more baked salmon and/or green Beans for me.

Though I said I wasn't going to run today after yesterday's muscle burning hill run I just could not run when it's above freezing here. From running in -30c (about 25 below F) weather last week to 2c (36F) today, I had to get out. Ran 6.24k (about 4 miles) at an easy pace and felt great.
If you're post Bariatric surgery, get active but start slow. Exercise is the second tool we have been granted in this lifestyle do over. The first tool was the surgery. It's not a cure, but a terrific tool if we use it properly. The ability to finally move and become active because we've lost some or a lot of weight us the second tool. Look upon these things as gifts given to us who have struggled all our lives with weight issues. Fur maybe the first time in a long time we have the control to change our lives.
Exercise is the second gift or tool. Make good use of it because it will bestow a ton of bonuses upon you if you do.
Walk before you run. Walk daily for a month, and slowly increase your distance. Once you can walk an hour, start to increase your speed for the same distance. From there add a run segment but very slowly.
Walk 5-7 mins, run 1, repeat for that same distance. After a couple months you'll be running the entire distance.
Remember why your doing it. You're not a professional. No one is paying you to be active or run. You are doing it for your health, for stress reduction, and most of all because you enjoy it. If it's not fun, why are you running?
Two years ago my dad died in hospital. The week before he passed, I was at his side visiting. He had a breathing tube dvd a feeding tube down his throat. He couldn't talk, take care of his bodily functions alone, nor could he do much but sleep. The doctors came to his bed to ask him if he wanted DNR (Do Not Resuscitate), or did he want Heroic Measures taken in the event his heart stopped. My dad told them he wanted quality of life, not quantity and decided to accept the DNR. A week later he died of double pneumonia.
I think about that moment often.
    Quality of life over quantity.
What kind of quality did we have when we were 100, 120, 150 lbs it more overweight? I was on 15 pills a day for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, GERD, depression, and herniated discs in my lower back which I've had surgically repaired. Gallstones necessitated the removal of my gallbladder last year.
My quality of life sucked but now I have these two tools that just keep giving back the more I use them. Life has changed since I've become active, since I've had surgery, and since I've dropped over 100 lbs. Join me because if I can do it, anyone can. It just takes time that's all.

I run 6.2 miles every other day and when I started 4 months ago I too shook and shivered as I ran. Get a good compression shirt and pants like that made by Underarmor. It holds all the looseness in place as you run. I did and I love them now. They are skin tight as you can see in the photo below but they make all the difference in the world. Running gets easier as you progress but don't go to fast or you'll get injured. 1 mile to start is too fast. Walk before you run girl.
I had my surgery on April 23rd, 2014 in Tijuana and started walking slowly a month later. that progressed to walking quicker and longer over the next two months until I was walking 10k (6.2 miles) very quickly. I'm Canadian hence the metric crap. We hate it too. At that point I started to run a minute/walk 5. Eventually I could run a mile then two and now the 10k.
Running is all about form I discovered. If you don't employ the right form you will hurt. It takes time to build up stamina. I run outside. Today it was -23 here in Saskatoon but layered up and ran 4 miles of sprints. Crazy Canuck? You bet but I feel great, pain free, and stress reduced.

This has been an interesting thread to read, because I have always hated running. I always loved sports, but never could run worth a darn. I don't currently aspire to run, you know, EVER, but I really want to do one of those obstacle courses with the mud and stuff. I doubt that qualifies as "running" really, but someday I will do one of those - what's that one where you jump over fire? Not. That. One. LOL
In order to get my 5k on, I do random walking events, and I even bought the event shirts last year because they finally fit me! I recently did a Turkey Trot in the pouring rain on Thanksgiving and it was fun despite the sogginess. I've set a goal for the new year to do at least 4 events in 2015 (only managed 2 in 2014), even if I'm only walking.

What a great thread and so motivational since I just started a running program last week. I ran in the past and my profile picture is after finishing my fastest 5K. It motivates me to get back into shape.
When I first started, I signed up for a 5K with a friend and I cursed myself for that decision every day as I ran and hated it. I remember the day before the run, I said once I got through it, I would never run again. Well, something happens when you cross that finish line. I can't describe it, maybe I was just thankful that I didn't have a heart attack. Whatever it was, I wanted more! The next year, I ran a half marathon. As my weight went back up, I wasn't able to run anymore and it was one of my motivations to have surgery. It's amazing that I went from hating it to loving it. I have always joked that running is only fun when you're good at it. It really sucks when you first start. But once you're able to run without feeling like dying, it's amazing.
BTW, my bucket list item is to run my first full marathon next December in Honolulu.

If you want to continue running, I would recommend you start slower. Don't focus on speed at least for the first year. Use a Couch to 5K app to go through a gradual training plan. Most of them start at running for about 45 sec walking 2 min and than repeating for about 30 min, not 1 mile!
Run slow enough so that you can still talk while running. Don't run every day; your body needs time to rest. Check out YouTube videos for Chi running form. It will put less stress on your joints. Also get fitted for good running shoes. If you have knee pain, I would recommend a zero drop or low heal shoe.
Set a goal, for example, you can probably run a 5k after training for 10-12 Weeks, so sign up for a race. Don't worry if you can't run the whole thing. There will be many people that will interval run or even walk most of the race. Running feels great when you're in shape and have trained. I do my best creative thinking on my runs.
Finally, I always look at three things when I'm running. If I'm having trouble breathing, I slow down. If my legs are hurting, I give them a good roller massage after I'm done and a hot soak in Epsom salts. If I'm fatigued, I analyze what I ate and drank before running. You shouldnt need any additional food for a 30 min run, but I need to fuel up for weekend long runs.
I started running a month after surgery when I was about 70lb to goal. Ran my first 5k using intervals after 3 months. Ran my first 10K after 9 months and ran my first half marathon after 11 months at 48 yrs old. I'm back training for a 10K after having plastics in July. I started back using the Couch to 5K app and ran a 5K this weekend.
