Bryan Graeve got a reaction from Luvin_Life125 in How about some NSVs!?!?
I'm only four weeks post-op and down 40 lbs starting from 338. I air travel for work every week, so my favorite NSV has been the ability to sit in the middle seat of a plane without a belt extender or angry looks from my neighbors

Same here, 3 months post op and I eat what I want. Most important is to stay hydrated and focus on your Proteins.

I chose to tell my hiring manager about my WLS, along with only a few other close relatives and friends. I guess I wanted to impress my manager, let him know I was committed to a healthier lifestyle .. so the new me will be deserving of a big raise and promotion right? I can keep dreaming My manager was very cool with the news and was very supportive of it. No problem with the 1 week off for WLS + 2 weeks work from home to recover.
As a sidenote, I chose not to tell my coworkers; although after losing over 50 lbs since August some may know what's going on.

Bryan Graeve got a reaction from gahannagal in Diet leading up to surgery vs after surgery.. Why the change?
I didn't really have a pre-op diet until the last week when I was only able to have Protein shakes and low calorie drinks, and that diet was to help shrink my liver down to give the surgeon more room to work.
Post-op is when the diet plan became rather intense. They explained to me my new pouch took about a month to heal, so in the first few weeks I was on Soups and blenderized foods. After the 6th week I was able to eat "normal" foods again, but even then I'm seeing I have to make adjustments to what foods I choose to eat. Since the pouch is so small, I'll start with the Proteins first and then some vegetables; and I'll get full off of that and end up skipping any carbs (rice, bread, etc). Carbs fill you up pretty quickly, and Protein is the most important anyway.

Thanks gingersnap... "it's all I want" response is some good advice. I've overused the "I'm not hungry" excuse, that hasn't been working for me. I can relate to the Water.
I am just not ready to tell coworkers and clients about my WLS. As a consultant, my workplace is competitive and image is essential to influencing my peers and to my success. Losing all this weight, and the self-confidence that comes with it, is certainly boosting my career. I'm just not certain what their reaction would be if they found out "how" I was losing, so I'm trying to avoid any potential critics I guess.

One other thing I recently learned is your Dr can provide you with a card that confirms your surgery and you present it to the waiter and they will often really adjust your size meal and price. Wls is so common now that a lot of restaurants want to cater to us. Some restaurants won't let you order from the kids menu unless you are a kid but with this card they may now. We have a lot of friends that like to go to buffets and I told the cashier I had wls and she charged me the kids rate. That was really nice since all I ate was a very small amount of mashed taters and small amount of cottage cheese. That way we felt like we could still go with our friends and save $$ too.
    Good luck!

Some restaurants do but they are probably called something else. I was recently at Ruby Tuesdays and noticed on their lunch menu they have a section called "Petite Plates" - basically a half portion of their healthier full lunch plates. For example there's a chicken Fresco - a 1/2 chicken breast in balsamic vinegarette with mashers and steamed veggies.
If not, there's always the kids menu! Sometimes you even get crayons and toys to play with. Woot!

Yeah, I agree. The thrift shop and sams club is where I've been shopping so far for clothes during my weight loss. At sams they have those hidden elastic waistbands in their dress slacks that work pretty well, I'll buy a size down from what I'm actually at and they will fit fine for me. At the thrift shop I've bought a few dress shirts for a few bucks each. The thrift shop will probably get alot of business from me over the next year, both donations and purchases. But all in all I'm not complaining!

I had my 6 month follow up with my surgeon yesterday. He said I was firing on all 4 cylinder.... finally!! I had gastric bypass April 8, 2014. Unfortunately, I'm one who had complications. I wound up back in surgery no even 12 hours after the bypass. I had adhesions which caused a bowel leak. Thank God my doctor was a great, conscientious surgeon & discovered the problem & repaired the hole. But I became septic. The antibiotics weren't working & my temp kept climbing. For 3 weeks I was on a ventilator & medically comatose. I remember nothing until mid May. I later found out that it was touch & go for a while. I figure God kept me here for a reason. I pent a total of 2 1/2 months in Yvette hospital & another 2 weeks in rehab learning to walk again & building my strength up. But here I am! No longer diabetic, no high blood pressure. & feeling better than I ever have. I'm walking! Everywhere! At my heaviest. I was 350lbs & only 5'3". I'm now 210lbs 140lbs gone in 6 months. I Thank God everyday for letting me live to change my life & experience this new body. I'm not finished yet, but I WILL get there. Yes it was a tough situation to go through, but looking back,so worth it.

I love making a psychological game out of it. My server would come at the end of the meal and their reactions, to me, would judge the type of person they are. Some were real people pleasers. These are the ones that were always asking what was wrong and how they could correct it. I have even had managers be sent to me by the server to make sure I was alright. I always tried hard not to laugh. Next are the ones who are comfortable in their service. They just bring me the box and move on. They do not ask if everything was alright. These are the overconfident narcissist. The final one is the one who is comfortable with themselves in a neutral sense. They are the ones who will ask if everything was alright and when I say that it was, they just bring me the box.
Try it some time when you are at a restaurant. Another thing to try, if you are not the most honest, would be to complain and get the meal for free. I do not recommend this.
Have fun playing this little game and seeing the looks on your servers face when your whole meal looks almost untouched.
