Cody's mom reacted to LipstickLady in stomach size
I am almost 2 years out (May) and I can probably only eat about 1/4 of a baked potato max. I'm not positive because I haven't eaten more than a bite or two of baked potato since my pre-op.
At 2 weeks out, the most I could eat was 1-2 tablespoons of mushy stuff. It wasn't until about 6-8 months out that I could manage 1/4 cup. Now I max out at 1/2 cup, maybe a cup if it's really soft. If it's pure Protein, I can manage 2-3 oz. at most.

My question? Why in the world are you eating baked potato (and so much) this soon out? Is this part of your surgeon's approved diet plan? Interesting. Most people seem to be encouraged to eat mostly Protein, little carbs for the first several months to maximize weight loss.

Oh I was was so sad when mine started to fall out. It's still coming out in clumps everytime I wash it, and handfulls the rest of the time, I see people I work with walk past, and see my hair hanging off them, they don't notice, but I do. I don't think there's any thing anyone can do about it, it's either gong to happen or it's not. I wasn't one of the lucky ones. It's still coming out like crazy, and I mean crazy. I finally went to get it chopped off to my shoulders, and my poor hairdresser screamed when she grabbed my hair, and was shocked when she combed it out. I've lost aobut 40% of my hair, and with no end in sight, I'm a little nervous, but this has not made me wish I hadn't done the sleeve, I will be eternally grateful for ever for it! I think I started around month three or four.

My hair has finally started to shed. Nothing too horrible...yet. Just really annoying! I had a cute hair style picked out but opted to order extensions instead. I'm not upset by it, I knew it was going to happen so I'm not shocked. I've decided to look at it as my internal "fat" girl and "skinny" girl are fighting. One of them is fighting dirty and pulling hair out!! I'm betting on the skinny girl to win the fight in the end! Ha! So if you lost hair how long did it last?

Since Sept 1, 2014 (the start of my pre-op diet) I've lost 45 pounds. I was stalled for two months, didn't lose an ounce. I'm 53 years old. Everyone is different, when those stalls happen and it's frustrating, just be happy your not gaining.

@@sunshine69 I had surgery Sept 14, I had a hard time walking the pain in my feet would cause me dread to do anything. I'm 53 and was fed up with being out of breath and feet that would hurt. If I did a little activity I could hardly make it to the bathroom in the middle of the night my feet would hurt so bad. Doing the slightest of activities would cause me to pant out of breath like a dog who ran for miles. This past Friday I spent the entire day shopping and went for a hike out to see my horse which was about half a mile, then did several loads of laundry (up and down many flights of stairs), and really didn't notice till I went to bed that night, there was no pain, none! That alone is the biggest Christmas present..

to be perfectly honest, I drink a small amount with meals. I am kind of a rebel. I also drink 2 or 3 sparkling waters per day. I don't reccomend this but I am just being honest. I have had zero troubles and I am having amazing weight loss.

I have never done shakes, not since my surgery and not that I haven't tried, I've tasted many and never gotten past the first sip or two, I just can't stand them, and I've tried so many. I jumped right into regular food ten days after surgery, and had no problem (prime rib to be exact, with a little mashed potato and two brussel sprouts). You have to do what is right for you, I still to this day do not do Protein shakes or shakes of any kind, I wish I could, but I throw them right back up, I hate the taste of them all, and I've tried sooooo many different ones, I finally gave up. Each time someone would say "try this one, it's great" I'd go out buy it and totally GAG on it and that was it. I've tried pre mixed, powder, tasteless ones, everything.. So good luck, but really don't sweat it, you can still do this, where there's a will there's away! It is better if you can do the shakes, but don't let it stop you if you can't.

I have used coconut oil in my hair for years, and it sure didn't help with my Hair loss. The hair I have is heathy from the use of the coconut oil (not dry and crisp), but it still comes out in massive clumps.

Well I think their claim that they invented some process that makes their Protein absorb 3x better than any other protein is hogwash. If they really had done that, they would be able to write it up and publish it in a peer-reviewed scientific journal and the entire health/protein supplement industry would be beating a path to their door, begging to buy their process. Haven't seen any evidence of anything like that. And have you seen the other stuff they sell? "Testosterone booster," something called "Kranked" that allegedly gives you "superhuman strength," weird herbal supplements that look like they are supposed enhance men's, ah, sexual performance . . . I would not put anything from this creepy company in my body, let alone rely on it for nourishment post-surgery.

Thanks for sharing this info! I have heard rave reviews on it from the boards, but have been very skeptical. I am really glad I didn't try it and didn't waste my money. The idea of what they claim is awesome and somebody really needs to come up with this type of product with scientific evidence supporting the claim.

Like Bufflehead said, as soon as I saw the other products they put out and the "miracle" performance they claim, I ruled them out as a reputable source. Nowhere could I ever find if GENEPRO has a complete amino acid profile. And the complete lack of third party, scientific, fact-based evidence, and no FDA approval are other obvious red flags that this is a scam.

Hello, SO for everyone who uses GENEPRO Protein powder. I have been trying to get the people at Musclegen ( the company that makes it. To help me understand their claim that 1 tablespoon of their product contains 30 grams of Protein when the tablespoon itself only holds 15 grams of product. Finally after posting numerous times on their website and Facebook I emailed them directly to see if they wished to send me some product to try, under my video taste tests that I do on my blog. Well they declined and also explained about the product and its claims.
    This one blew my mind.
They do not have 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon of product. The say that their product is absorbed 3 times better than regular whey isolates so therefore the 10 grams of protein in their tablespoon is equal to the absorbed amount when you drink 30 grams with a non GENEPRO product.
Well! they do not do this knowing that sleeve patients ( I don't know about band or DS) due to the smaller surface area of the stomach absorb more per area than a normal person does. So if you are really trying to get the amount of protein you need, then you need to triple up on this stuff.
I personally do not like this marketing ply of the 30 grams in one tablespoon thing. But I have no control over that.

Cody's mom reacted to JamieLogical in Dreams STOMPED by my insurance company
I am so sorry for you. It's definitely frustrating that insurance companies don't cover WLS or have such ridiculous requirements for you to qualify. I ended up having to self-pay, because my insurance wouldn't cover WLS unless I had been at a BMI of 40 for the past 5 years. Well, I actually lost weight on my own 3 years ago and then regained it over time. They were basically punishing me for having at least TRIED to do it on my own. So unless I wanted to stay fat for at least 2-3 more years, they wouldn't cover it. And who knows what kind of toll staying that fat for another couple of years would take on my health!
I went to Mexico for my surgery. I know that seems really scary to a lot of people, but it was an incredibly positive experience for me and I was able to have the surgery for a price I could afford, with one of the best surgeons in the world. However, even if you travel for your surgery like I did, it's still thousands of dollars out of pocket and that can be tough for normal people unless they have access to financing. I personally was able to borrow against my retirement for the money.

I went out and had steak / lobster and a glass of Champagne with several friends, instead of birthday cake I had a mini birthday cupcake. I might have eaten only a few bites of each, but enjoyed it just the same. It's nice when you can share a meal and costs with someone. I was three months out from surgery!
    Happy Birthday in advance!

@@JerseyJules, most of us were on a two week pre-op diet which included two Protein shakes and a small salad per day, followed by two days of Clear Liquids, then nothing 24 hours prior to surgery, so trust me, we know how many food commercials there are. If you only had to go on a restricted diet for a day or two, you're very lucky!

There is a thread on here about those of us that went to Mexico, the doctors we had and the experiences we went threw. I personally felt I was cared for much better than I would have been here. The prices are affordable, the doctors fantastic and you can name the date you wnat to go without having to jump threw all the hoops needed for insurance. Please look for the threat about Mexico, the success rate is fantastic, it's safe, and affordable. Best of luck! I went alone as do many patient, and felt totally comfortable.

I just had a circular Tummy Tuck and breast implants with Dr. Juan Pablo Cervantes in Tijuana Mexico on 12/8/14. I had an arm lift 9/1/14 with him as well. I've lost 167lbs and had a lot of skin to be removed.

It's more expensive in the U.S. Mexico is almost always half the cost of the U.S. In Mexico, you can get a Tummy Tuck for about $4-$5k, plus plane tickets, but in in the U.S. it would cost you about $10k or more after all the add ons are applied. A friend had both a tummy tuck and breast surgery and it cost him about $21k in the U.S. altogether. He could have gotten both for about $8-$10k in Mexico.

Funny, I don't find Tijuana a risk, but more highly trained quality surgeons than we have here. I would choose Mexico over anywhere for any surgery or dental work, but I would prefer going to someone that someone else has used. I had a very successful sleeve done in TJ for a very inexpensive price, but price isn't my concern, it's getting quality surgeons, and I know they are in Mexico, much more so than here.
