Thought I would update my current picture with one from the gym today.

Here is me at my heaviest, around 330.

Today was chest day and there was a moment with no one around so I sneaked a picture. Maintaining at around 200.

    Lola,
Check this out. My sister and I got in an argument two days ago and she told me that I was worthless because I couldn't lose weight on my own and had to have surgery. I was mad and told her at least I had the right mind to change my life for the better. Her and I have struggled with our weight throughout or lives and I think she is probably mad that I went through with surgery. I have no regrets having surgery. It was the best decision of my life. Isn't it sad how family can be.

I am not sure if I am adding these pictures correctly but I thought maybe it was time to show my progress. I am disabled and have used an electric mobility device since 1994. Now a days I am able to walk with 1 cane for about 5 minutes before pain sets in. Plus I am riding a tricycle 7 miles a day. I am very pleased with all of my weight loss. The 145 pounds I lost on my own and the additional 108 I have lost since the first meeting with my surgeon and the 3 procedure surgery he did in Jan of this year.
The pictures are My highest weight 497 pounds. Last June when I first saw the surgeon 352 pound.
Day before surgery 315 which was Jan 26th
This Sunday July 10th 244. Total lost 253 pounds.

My normal gym has the weight room closed for remodeling so I have taken a break from weight lifting and started focusing on cardio. Averaging about 8 miles on my lunch hour. I usually leave the cardio room looking like this:

The good news is that with the extra cardio I've been doing, I'm down to a size medium shirt... It sounds weird even typing that.

I'm even in a size medium underwear, but I shall spare you all those pictures!

Family wedding last night. I felt amazing - have lost about 100 pounds and was having the time of my life.
Saw an aunt I haven't seen since the start of my journey. She tells me I look amazing, then asks if she can ask a personal question...
"Is your husband going to have the surgery, too? I'm afraid he'll have a heart attack"
Seriously????? Yes, he's a big man, but he's also a big boy and capable of making his own decisions. Such a downer to our night.
Would I like him to lose weight for his health? Absolutely. But he is fully aware of the surgery and what goes into it. It's ultimately his decision. I love and support him regardless.
    Grrr

Seriously. I hear you on this. If one more person tells me I look too skinny I'm going to lose my shit SMH. I'm 5 foot 3 and 148 pounds because I recently gained 3 pounds and I'm still getting these bullshit comments. Don't people realize it's rude to say someone looks too skinny just like it is to say someone looks too fat? Especially a person that used to be fat and then tell them that now they look too fucking skinny!!

Don't listen to ANYONE about getting "too skinny."
They're merely expressing their discomfort with watching you change. Their discomfort doesn't concern you at all.
If you put any stock in the BMI charts, at 5'2" and 145 pounds, your BMI is still in the "overweight" category.
Trust me -- really, trust me! -- you can gain some weight back. And within a year or two of reaching goal you will probably be struggling with a little regain anyway. Which would you prefer -- to struggle with regain from 145 pounds or 125 pounds?
P.S. After reaching your goal, you will eventually find that what looked even to your eyes as "skinny" will begin to look normal, because it is normal. When you've been obese / overweight for a long time, it takes a while for your eyes / brain to become accustomed to what "skinny" looks like -- and doesn't look like. Good luck!

Here is a link to a recent meta-analysis (a study combining the results of past studies) on BMI and all-cause mortality published in the prestigious journal The Lancet. Over 10 million people from 239 subsidiary studies were included. All-cause mortality was minimal within the BMI range 20-25.

I am a scientist in a healthcare company and I read a lot on lifestyle factors and their connections to chronic disease and mortality in the scientific and medical journals. Goals are of course entirely a personal choice. In terms of mortality and morbidity though, slimmer is better down to pretty low levels - not suggesting anorexia is good, mind you.
For my own part, I don't know what will be possible, but I'd ideally like to get back down to around 170lb on my 6 foot frame eventually. That was where I was until about age 30, and that's just where I felt and performed best physically. Looks like that will be about BMI=23 if I get there. Still have a ways to go at this point before anyone will say I am too skinny , but I am not going to worry too much about what someone else says is my ideal weight. To me the #1 thing is to be happy with yourself.

My name is christi I'm a married mom of 3 teenage kids and I run multiple business. I've lost and gained weight most of my life and after my mom and younger sister got weight loss surgery, I decided it was my last option. I did the sleeve on April 9,2015 and have lost 133 pounds. Going from a size 24 to a size 12. It feels very surreal. Walking into a store and being able to buy clothes that were never an option for me before. No more worries about overflow No my airline seat or needing an seat belt extender. Finally the rest of the world sees me as I have always seen myself and that is the most amazing part!
I am so glad I did it! It was hard and I had to jump through a lot of hoops and it was at times painful, esp after surgery! But I wish I would have done it a lot sooner. If your thinking about doing it, it could change your life!
Here some photos of me before and after.

Okay so can I through in the latest People magazine. How "real" women lost over 100 lbs. hmm thought I was a real woman, had a cycle, had two kids, five miscarriages and now going through menopause. I must have missed something on the road to "real" womanhood.

So, this evening I sit down to watch ABC News with David Muir because I want to torture myself by listening to more about the Republic National Convention. (dabbing at my bleeding ears)
I noticed that there are many... many, many food commercials. Its the dinner hour so why not, right? Mentioning any of these foods would be completely unkind in this forum. But I have an idea. Probably an old idea, but I do not see evidence it has materialized.
@AlexBrecher, founder of BariatricPal, can you sponsor or produce television ads with healthy foods that are not dripping in butter, are not fried, or smothered in the words "all you can eat", please?
Can you be sure they run during the dinner hour until around 2am, please?
Maybe you could start a forum topic to get ideas about what kind of ads would help support the post-bariatric surgery person.
Perhaps you could partner with egg, chicken, or Protein Shake companies which would finance these ads?
Maybe there could be an ad sponsored by Rubbermaid to help us plan our meals?
You could produce a couple 20-second or 30-second public service announcements with encouraging tips for the growing population of people who have undergone/endured bariatric surgery. (Did you know that even Dr. Oz said that bariatric surgery is the best, but most under-utilized surgery offered to give people back their lives in the US today?)
How about PSAs about annual fundraisers to help those who have to self pay? Fun runs/walks, dog washes, blah blah blah
Autism Awareness Month is in April.
Muscular Dystrophy Awareness is over Labor Day.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is in October.
Alex Brecher, you are in the perfect position to bring post-bariatric surgery people out of the dark. We need our own month to Celebrate our accomplishments and support others who have just started their journey!
We have tons of special needs after the surgery is behind us. Restaurants should offer very small portions for us and welcome us! We are growing in numbers every single day. I think I counted at least 25 people who on this website who have had surgery in the last month.
OMGosh, Unbridled... turn off your monkey mind!
I probably posted this in the wrong place entirely.
