Can you post an average food day? It may help others understand better what your Protein vs carb/ sugar intake is. How many grams of protein are you getting in each day?

    cpower100 got a reaction from catwoman7 in Only 0.7 in a week?
I am 6 wks out today and so far for me the pattern seems to be 2 wks with big losses and then a week the same or very minimal loss. It does seem impossible based on nutritional consumption but my NUT says it is a very normal pattern.

cpower100 got a reaction from catwoman7 in 6 weeks out and not losing weight
My surgery was May 11 and I have noticed a pattern where I seem to loose regularly (daily) for 1-2 weeks and then I stay at the same weight for a week or so before I start losing again. I was really getting freaked out by the weeks I was not losing until I looked at my recorded weight loss and saw that there was clearly a pattern. It is so difficult not to compare our weight loss to others but it is also important. When I start to get hung up on where I "should" be I loose sight of the daily goals and success I gave had.

cpower100 got a reaction from ANewBeginning15 in What are your tricks for dealing with food cravings?
I am 6 wks post op tomorrow and have had a pretty smooth transition and I feel great but I am wondering how you deal with food cravings when they come up? I have stuck strictly to my surgeons program but I figure food cravings are inevitable at some point and I'm looking for the tips/tricks for dealing with them. I would really love to hear from new post ops but also the veterans who have worked thir program long term with success.

This is an interesting thread for me. I was a coffee lover pre-op and worked hard to give it up but man do I miss it. My surgeon says no coffee, even Decaf, for still least 6 mo to lower risk of stomach ulcers. So interesting to see what others are doing and how other surgeons feel about the topic.

cpower100 reacted to VSGAnn2014 in Will we have to low carb for ever?
Apparently, not everyone here knows yet that:
    1. Vegetables are carbs.
    2. Fruits are carbs.
    3. Whole grains are carbs.
    4. Dairy products (milk, cottage cheese, cheese, etc.) are full of carbs.
And some of the above also have Protein. And/or fat.
    But they all contain carbs!

I disagree with the majority of posters on this thread. Doesn't mean they're wrong. But they're also not necessarily right -- as in there are multiple ways to lose and maintain weight after WLS.
For the record, I never went low-carb to lose my weight post-op. Yes, early on we can't eat that much (500-800 calories/day) and do focus on mostly Protein for the first month or so -- to get all our Protein in.
But "focusing on protein" is not nearly the same thing as "no carbs." As soon as I could eat veggies and fruits, I was focused on eating as much of them as I could--after I'd eaten all the protein I was supposed to eat. Even when I was eating only 800 calories/day, I was getting in just as many or more grams of carbohydrates as grams of protein.
At Month 5 I bumped my daily cals target up to 1,000/day. At Month 7 I bumped up to 1,200 cals/day. When I hit my weight goal (at 8-1/2 months post-op) I raised my cals to 1,400 cals/day. And at each of those levels I was eating more carbs than protein grams -- which at 1,200 cals/day was about 100 grams of protein and 100+ grams of carbs.
But by "carbs" I don't mean massive amounts of the "white carbs" and certainly not sugar. Carbs are in veggies, fruits, whole grains. Those are GREAT for us--so full of nutrients and Fiber.
As an example, today I'll eat 1,485 calories of food, which will include 142 grams of carbohydrates, 38 grams of fat, and 106 grams of protein. My food today will also include 19 grams of Fiber (women need 21 grams/day, but 19's good enough).
    So there's a different perspective.
P.S. I plan my daily menus and record all my food eaten in My Fitness Pal, so I do know what I'm eating and how much and what my food's macronutrients are. No guessing going on here.

cpower100 got a reaction from OregonTeacher in Acid reflux/heart burn
I had a very serious life long issue with bile and acid reflux. I was told by my GI dr that the sleeve was absolutely off limits for me and I had the bypass. I can honestly say that I have not had a single episode since surgery and went from taking 8 pills a day to control the GERD to ZERO pills the day after surgery. I do know people who have had mild reflux and had the sleeve with no issues but I know many more who have had no reflux and developed issues after the sleeve as well as people who had mild reflux that got significantly worse after the sleeve and ended up revising to bypass. My advice would be do as much research as possible and go with your gut instinct and surgeons suggestion.

I had to do the pre-op diet twice (bc my first scheduled surgery got cancelled three days before surgery). The first time I pushed through and it was ok. The second time (just had my surgery this past Monday) felt much harder. I was really hungry and the Protein Shakes just were not filling me up. I really struggled but Now I can say liquids before surgery are way different than liquids after surgery. Now i am having a hard time getting in all the liquids bc my stomach fills up so fast. My head hunger still exists and some things sound like they might be good, like swordfish, but the reality is I think if I ate three bites I would explode! Keep pushing bc you are almost there.

After a year long effort to get to this point I finally had rny on Monday. I am still in the hospital and having trouble walking bc my blood pressure is dropping very low (90/50) and I get pretty dizzy. I could really use some words of encouragement while I am lying here very bruised and in a significant amount if pain. I know in my head that it will get better but having a hard time right now.

Tylenol is ok (according to my team) bc it is acetaminophen not aspirin. I am two weeks post op today and I have found every plan is very different. For me week one was full liquids, week two was soft foods like yogurt/cottage cheese/oatmeal/ and puréed meats. Week three is the same as week two and week four I can begin to add in more solid meats.

I am 5 days post-op and get that very full feeling if I drink to much to fast too. I am literally keeping a water bottle in my hand all day and sipping all day. I get full the fastest and feel the worst when I am drinking the Protein Shakes bc they are the thickest. I think it is all a work in progress and we need to take time to get to know what works best for our own pouches.

I have been using Spiru-Tein. I have a strong aversion to sugar substitutes and this powder is low in sugar but what it does have is natural.. Nit is more expensive than some others out there but it is very high quality and I think it tastes great.

My surgery was on Monday and I am still in the hospital but hoping to go home tomorrow. Getting my walks in and my plan is to not have more than two oz of Fluid per hour. Funny how every plan I'd different. My oxygen and blood pressure are still low but hopefully they will be all set tomorrow. Good to tal to others with same surgery dates.

cpower100 got a reaction from trishaz in How can I be stalled at 10 days post surgery
I am only 4 days post op and when I weighed myself today I was only down 4lbs from surgery day. I know it is baffling and I cannot imagine that the pounds are not just disappearing but with all that said I also feel like I need to say RELAX! Two days without a drop can not be considered a stall and instead of focusing on wrapping your head around the "lack" of weightloss you could use this time to focus on letting your body heal. Please don't set yourself up for unreasonable expectations and therefore disappointment.
