  1. Yep, had the same situation. So I unhooked myself. After using the restroom, thought to myself, "I'll just walk around a bit since I'm up already." Did a few laps around the floor, then realized I don't need any more pain meds...I just need to get up and move. I totally felt better off the drugs and out of bed. So while it was irritating that my nurse couldn't get to me...she actually helped me progress pretty quickly...
  2. After drinking all these protein shakes, pre op & post op, I'd much rather eat than drink anything else. Just tired of liquids in general, so can't see any motivation to engage in juicing to be honest. At some point I'd like to resemble my fellow humans by actually eating. Ok, my lil rant is over LOL!
  3. My family is anti me getting another surgery (have had 14) and are anti me getting another degree (have 3). I don't blame them, they are worried for me and want me to be "there" mentally, emotionally & physically. I truly respect & understand where they are coming from so will do my best to tone and tighten through working out.
  4. I was also told not at all by nutritionist and surgeon. They said something about how caffeine is real hard on the stomach lining, increases hunger, and is a diuretic.
  5. I am in the same predicament. I had no choice but to donate almost all of my clothes because they looked ridiculous on my smaller frame. So I bought a few staple items for work: 2 pants, 4 shirts, couple of button up sweaters, some tanks to alternate. I purchased these items during after Xmas sales so I didn't spend a lot of money. I'm trying not to but anything else till spring.
  6. Yes, it is a problem. Many surgeons prescribe colace (stool softener) to help, but it doesn't work that great for me. What works is getting lots of fluids in, walking, and milk of magnesia. Some people swear by smooth move tea, but it is a stimulant and causes my stomach to cramp.
  7. Please notify your surgeon, as it is possible to develop pneumonia after surgery. They typically give you one of those mechanisms that you have to breathe in 5-6 times an hour (can't remember what it's called), better to be safe than sorry...so call.
  8. Hope you feel better!
  9. It isn't up to your Surgeon. The anesthesiologists are the ones who administer the anxiety medicine or ask the nurse to give the anxiety meds/cocktail prior to surgery. In all of my 14 surgeries I've never seen my surgeon override, ask, or even interrupt my anesthesiologist. My anesthesiologists come by, say hello, ask how I'm doing, then hit up my IV...in that order.
  10. I'm at 4 weeks out. It depends on what I am eating. If it's refried beans, 3-4 ounces. If it's tuna or chicken, an ounce.
  11. 1. I stopped drinking coffee 6 months prior to surgery when my nutritionist explained how hard coffee is on the stomach lining and the effects of caffeine on the hunger hormone and as a diuretic. 2. Havent had juice since more than the 6 months out. throughout this process, I've learned that I'd rather eat fruits and veggies than drink the calories. 3. Was told by my program not to use straws period. So I don't use them. 4. See #1
  12. No Worries @@JerseyJules, Sounds like you are doing what's best for you. Wish you the best on your journey.
  13. Thx girl! You've lost over 100 pounds!!! Awesome!!!
  14. I drink a protein shake in the morning. I also add Unjury unflavored protein powder to just about everything. That is the only way I can reach 60- 70g of protein.
  15. I've tried a number of recipes from different bariatric sites. Then I cook separate meals for my family. I bought a bunch of little Pyrex dishes from Walmart and froze all the meals in one serving sizes. This has been great since i can just grab one, heat it up, and not get bored with yogurt and protein shakes.
  16. I tend to gain weight if my calories are too low, if I consume too much salt or artificial sweeteners, if I don't drink enough Water, if I don't get some exercise in, if I'm constipated... So to help with some of above, I track my diet/liquids/exercise using my fitness pal app...so I have a better understanding of my body.
  17. 1. Hands down YES 2. The feeling of restriction. I've read a lot about others experiences but was surprised to feel full after an ounce!
  18. I begged Dr at my 4 week checkup & no dice. He said we'll revisit weights idea at 6 weeks. I was cleared for all other exercise though based on how I feel.
  19. I had the same pain...not sure what it was (gas pocket?) But it helped to put my hands on top of my head and walk. I'm 4 weeks out and no longer experience that pain anymore.
  20. Best way I can describe Day 1 is that it sucks. Day 2 is better & Day 3 was night and day. I know you probably don't feel up to it, but walking even for just a little bit helps move the gas...hope you feel better!
  21. My two week liquid diet consisted of: protein shakes, yogurt, sugar free jello, protein shakes, sugar free pudding, sugar free Popsicles, decaf tea, and more protein shakes
  22. Just to add: the military will no longer perform lap band surgery. Their reasons are the complications outweighed the benefits in far too many patients to justify. There were a number of patients in my orientation class there to have their bands converted to sleeves or bypass...which from my understanding is automatically approved with or without complications (on base). I'm not trying to convince you from not getting the band...just sharing.
  23. I wake up @ 5:00, within 30 minutes I take my synthroid med. 6:00am I take Prilosec 6:30 Breakfast 8:00 take calcium dosage 11:00 take multivitamin 12:30 lunch 3:30 take calcium dosage 5:30. dinner Before 8:00 take multivitamin again I set timers on my phone to remind me and it seems to be working although I am not always so accurate on the times.
