Need practical advice (long)
While I agree with @@samuelsmom that there seem to be more similarities than differences amongst plans...however on this site and many others...folks tend to do whatever they want anyways rather than follow the plan the way the surgeon intended...which results in a slippery slope and lots of subsequent posts of I'm failing, I've gained weight, Help, etc. Which leads me to agree that at some point one must accept responsibility for ones actions including how one chooses to follow their surgeons plan...so yes, some serious sucking it up has to occur to be successful on this journey. No matter what stage you are in...there will be challenges along the way. Expect them, suck it up, and keep pressing toward your goals.

Simply not hungry
I make all kinds of stuff from World According to Eggface blog (Google it). Everything I've made from her blog has been great and easily made and fit whatever stage I was in at the time. Take a look at "day in my pouch" posts to get an idea of how varied her diet after WLS is. I'm 7 weeks out and get all my protein from food, not shakes...which equals success for me

Is There Something Wrong With My Scale?
I also had a low BMI (31) prior to surgery...so I can completely relate to your post. if I saw a 2 pound loss, I'd definitely think my scale was broken and would make my husband weigh himself to see if the scale was still working! I've only seen increments of +/- 1 pound losses since surgery so any loss larger than that would shock me!

When is Hot Sauce ok to have post surgery?
I was told by my surgeons to consider my sleeve as a baby's tummy. Would we give a baby hot sauce? Or would we already know that those types of spices would cause our baby some type of stomach discomfort? My program is very conservative compared to some others I've read on boards. They are very concerned about acid, ulcers, reflux, not to mention the nutritional value of the food we put in our bodies. So I'm told no to spicy food for the first year or possibly indefinitely. And my favorite food is Indian...sigh.

How much walking can I do? 1 wk post-op
After 1 week PostOp, I was walking 2-3 miles daily. BUT, I was walking/hiking 5-6 miles 4-5xs/week for months prior to surgery. So as you can imagine, I was going stir crazy immediately after surgery just sitting/laying around. Like others have mentioned: how your body feels is important, but it's also important to consider what your exercise level was prior to surgery. If it was nonexistent, be conservative and increase distance & duration slowly. If you were very active, your body will let you be more aggressive

Do you feel like a failure?
Obesity is a multifaceted disease. It is a disease that is metabolic, physical, mental, emotional, and hereditary. Which is why the pre process includes so many hoops (psych, PCP, nutritionist, failed weight loss attempts, surgeons, family med history, etc.) Science and the medical field and most insurances now recognize and understand this based on valid long term studies. And agree that WLS, as a TOOL, is the most effective solution for people who have had a BMI greater than 35 at any point in their lives, keep the weight off for the long term. So why do we question seeking medical help for a disease? Would you not get medical help for blood pressure, diabetes, cancer or smoking? Would we think folks who did get medical help for these ailments are "Cheaters who took the easy way out?" That would be absurd. Just as absurd as thinking you've failed for considering WLS.

Feeling so despondent
I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. I hope you plan to see a psychiatrist also besides the MD. In the meantime, try to fight the negative self talk and live in the present. You were cleared, you've had the surgery, what's done is done...Embrace it. Rather than overwhelming yourself with too much thinking, keep it simple. Take it one good decision at a time (I.e drinking water, getting some protein in, walking for10 minutes). Everything is going to be okay,

Only issue that I'm having is
I also have a problem with constipation. So I'm taking 2 tsp of milk of magnesia, morning and night plus lots of fluids.

Is Surgery Just For Me?
Aside from what is currently happening in your body because of the excess weight or what malady could appear in the future..,WLS is a very personal decision. I was at the point where I felt it was the only solution that would help me keep the weight off for good. It took me decades to get to that place. My decision was based on my emotional and physical well being...not just because of a number on the scale. Once I embraced that, no one could tell me differently and I didn't 2nd guess my decision. 7 weeks out and I'm at my lowest weight since college, without any health issues, and looking and feeling great!

Will I only loose 10kg!
I was 31 bmi the day I had surgery. I also lost 60 pounds prior to surgery. I'm now down a total of 83 pounds. And am 33 pounds from my goal weight. I didn't even know there were calculators for this. I plugged my numbers in to the calculator @@VSGAnn2014 provided (thx it was fun) and I've already surpassed the 50 % chance of losing 66 pounds mark!!! So while the calculators are interesting...you simply can't calculate human potential.

I' failing,and ashamed...please help
And you are not a failure! The only way you'd be a failure is if you gave up & continued down this path that made you gain the 30 pounds. You've already started to take back control by posting here. Keep it going by contacting your Bari center. Take care!

Stalled so soon
Wow 30 pounds! That's great! I was sleeved 12/16, so it's been 7 weeks and I've lost 21 pounds. I stalled at week 2 and week 4 post op. It's just how my body is reacting to all these changes.

Coffee
Zero. Coffee isn't approved by my surgeon & nutritionist.

Are you hungry?
I'm 7 weeks out, and I'm not feeling all that hungry. I eat just because it's lunch or dinner time. But I also start my day off with a large protein shake which I nurse most the morning...so that could be why.

How Long Will It Take
Depends on the practice. There are so many requirement variations amongst surgeons, then issues/different hurdles arise. From my own experience going through a major military facility, from initial orientation to date of surgery: 6 months.

Severe Constipation: Advice Please
Thanks for taking the time to explain. It seems like there are more commonalities amongst the surgeries than differences. I had the sleeve and my program also requires 2 multivitamins, 1200 mcg calcium, no caffeine, and no carbonation, 60-70 g of protein, limiting carbs, and blood work 4xs/1st yr, twice per subsequent year. B12 is prescribed in the cases of extreme fatigue. Biotin supplements are up to us as biotin is already in the multivitamins but also, has been proven to help regrow hair but not keep it from falling out. But, I did learn more about DS through your post but am not sure if the DS forum should be inaccessible to non-DSers, as we really can all learn from each other...including what does/doesn't work.

Awesome! Welcome to the light side!

Low BMI
My BMI was either 31 or 32 prior to surgery. The military process I went through takes 6-9 months from orientation class to surgery. My Dr's and nutritionists encouraged we lose 5-10% of our body weight prior to surgery. Their practice averages 30 pounds loss per patient preop. I kind of embraced the lifestyle changes and lost 60 pounds prior to surgery. I was a little concerned that I would no longer qualify. But it turns out that I qualified when I first started the process and my weight loss made no difference to my military health insurance...now I'm 7 weeks post op and at a 29 BMI.

Severe Constipation: Advice Please
@@dsdesigna I'm sure no one meant any harm to the OP...it's just sometimes difficult to tell which forum you are posting in sometimes. I do have a question out of curiosity regarding the post op/lifestyle differences between DS and GB/VSG. How are the post op/lifestyle requirements different for the DS...besides the fact it is a malabsorbtive procedure which is in common with the GB? I've read just a little bit, but from what I've read Ive seen alcohol as something that can create a serious problem for those who have had DS. But coffee, which someone suggested, seems to create a risk for ulcers just like in other WLS...which is why I choose not to drink it anymore....

Stage 1 Diet Questions
For the first two weeks after surgery, I just followed my Dr's guidelines...drink small sips throughout the day, try to get in 32 ounces in the morning, again in the afternoon, and again in the evening (yeah, this didn't happen), 60-70 grams of protein, and if taking just small sips I could just go ahead and eat since it was all liquid anyways...but still to practice waiting 30 minutes after eating to resume drinking. The Drs were mainly concerned with fluid intake then anything else the first couple of weeks & to be honest I wasn't interested in really eating anything at that point anyways.

I don't want to eat!
I'm 7 weeks out, had surgery in December, and I found that my appetite didn't improve until I started pushing myself to eat more interesting stuff. So I started researching recipes for every stage and made myself create something interesting a few times a week. Whatever I didnt, eat I froze. This method has helped me get past that "Its not even worth it to eat that Greek yogurt again" feeling.
