  1. I recently learned how to crochet . Its helped take my mind off eating unnecessarily in the evening.
  2. I had such a hard time finding an actual cookbook that had high protein, low carb, nutritional info and color pictures. I finally settled on bookmarking various internet sites that had all of the above. i really like world according to eggface, but unfortunately she doesn't list the nutritional info of her recipes.
  3. @@Soready2lose As someone said previously, we all lose at a different rate. I pretty much stalled straight after surgery. Two weeks later I saw a small loss...then stalled again. I stall pretty regularly, to the point that I'm surprised to see a loss. I am also only 30 pounds away from goal so my rate of loss is going to be much slower than someone who is 100 pounds from goal.
  4. Hurtful? It is very difficult to judge the tone of a board post. I have seen some crazy, irresponsible, "sharing" on boards. So I wasn't sure if you were just giving another example or giving a suggestion. I truly apologize for the confusion and appreciate you taking the time to clear it up. My comment was certainly not meant to be hurtful. Sorry you took it that way.
  5. I was told that caffeine: Stimulates the hunger hormone Is a diuretic Is very hard on the stomach lining
  6. I stopped drinking caffeine 8 months ago, prior to surgery, when I found out at bariatric orientation that I could not have it after surgery. Now I can't even stand the smell of coffee and I was a 2-4 cup per day person.
  7. Oh I forgot to add: yes, I follow the rules. One of my biggest fears is cheating my sleeve in small ways only to become cheating in bigger ways. So yes, I follow the rules
  8. My rules are very similar to yours except I am also not allowed: Caffeinated beverages Alcohol Spicy foods Things I decided not to eat anymore: Potatoes Rice White flour Pasta A rule I added: Exercise daily
  9. Not sure if you are being facetious ...but drinking to eat more has disaster written all over it. Personally I, like a lot of people, went to a lot of trouble to get surgery, I LIKE the restriction feeling and REFUSE to CHEAT the sleeve. #ChangedMindset
  10. Severe edema like what you described can be from a number of things. Please contact your surgeon or PCM for guidance...you will feel better after you make that call.
  11. Thyroid meds can be tricky, especially when you don't take them consistently and properly. My thyroid was taken out due to having thyroid cancer. But I've always made sure to take my meds at the same time everyday, on an empty stomach, with nothing to eat for an hour afterwards. I lost 60 pounds prior to surgery following a less than 1200 calorie diet and exercising 4-5xs/week. So while being hypo is a challenge, losing weight is very much doable if you are disciplined and consistent.
  12. @@GeminiSleever Recovery time differs on the person. This was my 14th surgery so I Had a good idea what to expect post op. Less anxiety really helps one to feel better quicker. Anywhooo, here are some things I do to help me feel better after surgery: Sip all the time (dehydration makes everyone feel like crap) Mix Water with something with electrolytes (g2) Get out & get fresh air even for a short time & often throughout the day Walk often in small increments (u feel less like an invalid with every walk) Spray a peppermint breath spray in ur mouth (natural pick me up) Take cat naps as often as you feel like... but still get up & get moving
  13. Everyone's post op instructions differ. So giving you advice may not be the best solution. I was on liquids for two weeks, pureeds for two weeks, then mushies for two weeks, then soft foods for another two weeks. My surgeon & nutritionist gave me a packet describing guidelines of what I could eat at each stage. A site that really helped me with more creative ideas was World According to Eggface.
  14. Also look into your local school district. They may have an indoor pool for the community at a very low or even sometimes free cost.
  15. I don't play when it comes to my money & would be livid with myself for jumping the gun and paying when I just could have waited...Seriously, you've waited this long, what's a few more months or even a year?
  16. Hubby and I have been married for 15 years. We don't really get each other anything or go out. Instead, my husband always buys something cute for our daughters and I buy our son something cool. This year, my husband put together a fabulous protein, healthy, valentine care package for our oldest daughter who is away at college. She's concerned about the "freshman 15" so he wanted to give her healthy snacks to try
  17. Love the idea of the Colorado climbing trip! Climbing Mt. Blanca is on my bucket list. Anywhooo, not sure if you've climbed/hiked at that elevation before, but give yourself 2-3 days of acclimation time before taking on a strenuous Colorado hike . Trust me!
  18. I also had surgery 12/16. Since my surgery date I have lost 24 pounds. Not sure why you are thinking you should have lost more at this point... As long as I know I'm following my dr/nutritionists plan, then I don't worry about the numbers. Btw, if it helps I consume between 700-800 calories per day, get between 60-70g of protein, and exercise for 45-60 min. a day.
  19. Until your mindset has changed to,"I'm getting this done for me and come what may, I will not regret it."...I recommend that you: Learn more about the disease obesity, Learn more about the surgery, and most importantly Learn more about yourself... I've seen too many mentally unprepared people on this site who express regret at the first issue that arises...
  20. While this thread gives folks a range of possible goals for tall women, it doesn't take into account body frame and muscle mass. I'm 5'10, my goal weight is 170. I have a large bone structure and also can carry a lot of muscle mass depending on how much exercise/weight lifting I am getting. Anything less than 170 and my ribs begin to show...not sexy.
  21. I think it's kind of like being pregnant and everyone and their mother thinks it's ok to share their own labor stories, Unsolicited advice & even touch your belly. I admit that all of the attention has become tedious. I started this lifestyle change long before I even had surgery..so you'd think my coworkers would be used to it by now. Nope, I'm still constabtly asked, "What I am doing." I don't share my personal life with my coworkers. So I always state the same response, "I follow a high Protein, low carb. Lots of exercise diet."
  22. Problem: milk based Protein caused issues Solution: jump ahead to pureeds I had this particular problem because I too am lactose intolerant. Here's how it worked for me: Problem: lactose intolerant Solution: googled lactose free protein products, searched on this board for folks with identical problem, looked up recipes for lactose free shakes using soy, almond, or other lactose free solutions...still followed nutritionist/surgeons plan Also regarding the whole moderation and why folks got the surgery theory mentioned in a previous post...Not all of us have that same philosophy. I recognize that I have a serious problem with carbs. I can't eat a slice of pizza, have a sugary drink, or eat a few crackers without craving carbs for the rest of the day and binge eating all day. I'm not going back to that cycle.
