  1. My husband and I had this conversation just last night. He didn't have the surgery but has been steadily losing since I started the Preop stuff 7 months ago. He is 6'3 and currently weighs 210. His goal is 200 which would put him at a BMI of 25...the top of the normal range/bottom of overweight. He is thin everywhere but has that 40yr old daddy tummy that he's trying to get smaller. I personally would not want him to go lower than 200 because on his frame, 200 is thin. I think body frame, how you look, and feel should be your deciding factors on when to enter maintenance mode.
  2. I just tried the s'mores flavor...OMG! It is to die for!!! I'm just going to get that flavor till I become sick of it. It's that good!
  3. Thanks @@joatsaint Just ordered my free samples!
  4. I don't always make it to the gym for various reasons... One being that I'm a former collegiate athlete & because of all the years of training in gyms, I'm kind of anti. But i still get some form of exercise even if it's just 15 minutes. If I'm not at the gym, then l'll try walking my neighborhood or hike nearby. If I don't feel like walking, then I typically do a 30-60 min combo of yoga from my iPad. I also use my free weights a few times a week. I like to finish my day with 15 min relaxation yoga. I try to remain flexible about the whole working out thing because I want to enjoy it and not feel like I have to do it. Edited to add: I was sleeved on 12/16 too
  5. Not the first time I've heard this statistic. I heard it a few years ago watching the Today show, then again most recently from my nutritionist. I think there are a number of articles that describe the epic fail of the Biggest Loser...just googled them. Not quite sure why folks support the show by watching.
  6. I'm 7 weeks out and I enjoy the feeling of restriction. It tells me that I really did have surgery...cause I did wonder if the Dr. did anything for a hot minute. Immediately PostOp I could drink quite a bit so was concerned about the size of my tummy. Now, I can still drink without any problems, but when I take a bite of meat...I'm full after 3 bites. The only time I get frustrated is when I've made something delicious, and it either gets cold because I'm taking really small bites and it's taking me too long or I just want to revert to my poor eating habits from 7 months ago and scarf everything down. I can solve the warming issue by buying a cup warmer. But the wanting to eat for the sake of eating is something that I recognize as unhealthy and work on every meal...because thin people don't agonize over food.
  7. Just to add: don't forget to do squats. These can be modified so that you are just sitting down and standing back up. There's a few apps out there for push-ups, squats, yoga, etc. that I found were really helpful & free!
  8. I guess it is a matter of perspective, because I just didn't get all that from her post. I didn't see it as negative at all...just straight forward. It is true that the surgery fixes the tummy not the brain and that this surgery requires work to be successful. Just didn't see anything wrong with that message. However, your response, imo, was negative, unnecessary, and rude...again, imo. My honest feelings...no shade. Btw, sarcasm isn't cute. ProjectMe
  9. I don't understand the name calling. What is wrong with someone posting about responsibility...that's how I understood @tauruslady post. How easy is it to say, "Oh well, live a little!" This type of rationalization is what got most of us in trouble in the first place. Does "Living" have to equal food & alcohol? I Respect everyone's opinions but highly appreciate people who hold one another accountable for their actions. This is a public board...you cannot filter which responses you'd rather have and censure the rest.
  10. Also" are you tracking your calories/nutrition? I'm 6 weeks out and eat no more than 4 ounces for lunch and dinner. While you may feel that eating a little here and a little there isn't much, it really begins to add up calorie wise.
  11. I am a foodie & love to try new recipes. That hasn't changed after my surgery. The only thing that has changed are the type of recipes I cook now. I am experimenting with low fat, high protein, bariatric friendly recipes. Mostly found on the Internet, but there are some good cookbooks on Amazon . My family are picky eaters, so I do cook separately for them. But what I've noticed more and more is they are starting to see & smell what I'm cooking and they want to try it . So hopefully I can sway them to the light side over time!
  12. @@jenbaby75 Catty? When people post their private business on a public forum, particularly having to do with a moral issue, you will receive a whole spectrum of responses...advice, compassion, enablers, judgements, opinions, and hard truths. The OP and anyone taking the time to read & respond has gotta take the good with the bad because it is the internet & responses should be policed by moderators and/or the site owner. I didn't see any cattiness going on here and why would it matter... I'm sorry but I don't see how compassion fits into opening a door with a man who is not your husband...
  13. I like to keep my skin seriously moisturized. I've upped my skincare regime since having surgery. In the morning, for my face & neck: I wash with Neutragena face wash/makeup remover then use 2 squirts of Neutragena oil free daily moisturizer Spf 30 with 1 drop of Loreal's age perfect glow serum. For my body: palmers cocoa butter Before bed: for face & neck: wash face /Neutragena face wash & makeup remover, every other day I use an anti age eye cream and another anti age cream for my face. I can't recall the name of it but i got it from Walgreens and it was a little expensive. I think it is ROC and is for those sensitive to retain A. Then I layer on 3 drops of Loreal's age perfect serum and follow up with Neutragena's ageless essentials night cream. On the alternate days I do not use the ROC products. Instead I just use the serum and the night cream. For my body: depends on how dry. Usually, I will use good old fashioned Vaseline for my hands, elbows and feet. Other times, I may use palmers cocoa butter again or just hop in the bed without any lotion.
  14. Okay, great! There's a cross fit gym near my house. I wonder if they will be participating...plus I'm going to have to get in a little better shape before I throw myself into it !
  15. Havent heard of it. Is it national?
  16. @@Countrygrrl You mentioned a couple of things I want to specifically touch upon. 1) Thoughts and actions are two different things... I disagree with this statement. I believe our thoughts are just as important as our actions and can even be worst. Kind of like this one time when I bought some of those McDonalds apples. They looked great on the outside, but when I took a bite...found out it was rotten in the inside. Actions begin with just a thought. How we think influences our actions...and over time our thoughts can lead us down some pretty dark and unforgivable paths. 2) Decent relationships and weight loss surgeries have a high rate of affairs. My response to this is: Only if you let it.
  17. I'm old school. I would not have coffee with my high school friend who has mentioned marriage to me in the past. If I had any kind of romantic feelings towards this man or him towards me....again it's a no to coffee. I would not open that door period. If he were just a friend, I'd have no problem inviting him to my home to be with my family or inviting my husband to join us at coffee. If I were in an unhappy situation/relationship, I would resolve that relationship first before having coffee with someone from my past. If something in my life made me feel dirty, such as, by not telling my husband, then that's the Lord telling me, "I'm not right." And "I need to get right."
  18. Split pea soup xtra thick! Just follw the directions on the split pea bag and purée. Loved it so much I froze a months worth!
  19. Now y'all got me watching Orange is the new black! I like it!
  20. PreOp, i thought I would have all types of problems after reading some of the posts on this site: (regrets, passing out, nausea, spasms, leaks, strictures, food addiction issues, etc..). To the point that I was scared to chew ice cubes after surgery! PostOp I've had none of those issues. So please don't think everyone struggles. We are all so different (body, mind, & spirit), that our WLS surgery journeys are very different as well.
  21. It sounds like you are either dehydrated AND/OR are not reaching at least 60g of protein. It is not easy to do. What helps me is by flavoring my water (plain water is just nasty to me) and making sure I start my day off with a large protein shake. Protein shakes do double duty as fluids and protein. Also, drink tea and eat sugar free Popsicles. It's important to track with my fitness pal, so that you are definitely aware of how much protein you are getting. If you make a conscience effort at these suggestions, you'll start to feel more like yourself soon. Also, it might not hurt to contact your surgeon or head to emergency to get some fluids.
  22. Out of 14 previous surgeries, and surviving thyroid cancer...my sleeve surgery was the easiest to recover from. Part of the reason was because of my history, but also because I worked really hard to prepare myself the 6 months leading up to surgery. I lost 60 pounds prior through making the lifestyle changes I knew I'd have to make after the sleeve. I am 5 weeks post op and am down 80 pounds. I went from 4 meds to 1. I am getting back to feeling like an athlete and am quite proud to be running past folks half my age on the trails. My husband has become healthier during this process too! The only thing I regret is that it took me so long to come to the conviction that I need to let go of food and fight for my health. I ate enough of my favorite foods to last a lifetime and simply don't care about it anymore.
