From what I can tell it varies by doctor. I just found out that I will be doing a pre op diet that consists of: 2 protein shakes and a protein food meal.

My two week liquid diet consisted of: protein shakes, yogurt, sugar free jello, protein shakes, sugar free pudding, sugar free Popsicles, decaf tea, and more protein shakes :)

:-)

My doc has us just on a regular diet until 24h before the surgery, then Clear liquids only. Nothing after midnight.

But that might be because my regular diet has been very successful, they may have just decided it was better to stay with what was working. For the past six weeks I've been averaging 4lbs lost per week.

I will be starting my pre-op diet on the 26th. It consists of 5 Protein shakes a day, at least 64 oz of Water, and I can have sugar free ice pops, broth, 2 cups raw or steamed veggies(some veggies are excluded), herbal tea, diet Snapple, etc. I am a little scared about doing the pre-op diet, but I will push through it. :)

I marinated some chicken breasts in some light Italian dressing and cooked them up and then pre portioned them into 3oz servings. Then ate them throughout the week either with a salad or on a salad.

I lost 9.5lbs and didn't think it was to bad to stick to.

Are protein shakes/smoothies usually part of the pre-op diet?

The reason for pre-op is to de-fat your liver and reduce the chances of complications from surgery. Some surgeons just want you on a liquid diet some a low fat diet, it will depend on your surgeon.

I just started my pre op liquid diet, surgery is scheduled for January 29th. My diet is the same as ProjectMe. Good thing is that I am getting over a nasty chest cold so I have not felt much like ating the past 4-5 days so these first two days have been pretty easy...lets see how the weekend goes.

Mine was 3 to 4 protein shakes each day. That's it.
