Please notify your surgeon, as it is possible to develop pneumonia after surgery. They typically give you one of those mechanisms that you have to breathe in 5-6 times an hour (can't remember what it's called), better to be safe than sorry...so call.

Did you have to use a spirometer in the hospital? It's a sort of tube with a ball that you breathe into and try to keep the ball in the air? There is a tendency to develop a little congestion post op. Try sitting straight up and inhaling and exhaling a few times a day, particularly in the morning. Also make sure you are walking. You have to expand those lungs so that congestion doesn't take hold. If the cough worsens or last longer than a week call your doctor.

Definitely talk to your doctor, as pneumonia is a real risk after any surgery.
