    ex·cuse
    verb
    ikˈskyo͞oz/
    1. attempt to lessen the blame attaching to (a fault or offense); seek to defend or justify.

Just for the record, for ALL of you out there. You do not need an "excuse" to NOT do something, whether it be walking in a 5K or climbing on a treadmill. My 'excuse' - I have no interest, 'Nuff said.

Don't ever feel pressured or bullied, yes, BULLIED - don't ever feel 'less than' because you cannot or CHOOSE not to do what others do. Do not feel this is a competition. Do not feel if you aren't participating, you will be shunned or that you're an outcast. You are not.
We all must find the path that works best for us as we learn to maneuver our way through this tiny tummy business. Some of us are animals when it comes to walking, running and exercise - let me stop right here and say, many of these people are my friends, they know who they are and they know how much I respect and admire what they do. I am pretty sure I could not do what they do. I don't want to do what they do, but I sure love following their progress and dedication.
The point is, time and again I see a "What's your excuse?" and it rubs me the wrong way. Bullying rubs me the wrong way and it IS bullying, you can put lipstick on that pig, but it's still a pig. "What's your excuse" is NOT encouragement, it is NOT support, it is a dig to try and make you feel less than and that is NOT ok. Ever.

I really haven't had negative comments, but I had one person say they were sick of dieting and wished they could just have surgery like I did. She was just being a patronizing bitch, so I turned the tables on her and gave her my surgeons name and contact info, told her all about the the preop and postop diet and how lucky I was not to have any of the complications ( which I described in detail) How now I can eat anything I want, as long as it's not bread, Pasta, rice, potatoes, and sweets. Exclaimed how great I feel now that I can't drink beer and don't wake up with hangovers anymore. (She's a big partier). Made suggestions on the best Vitamins and Protein powders to get, talked about drinking at least 2 liters of Water everyday, and how many great bariatric recipe websites there are. Described how nice it is to only have to eat an appetizer at a restaurant, so I was saving so much money. The more I encouraged her, the more excuses she made of why she couldn't do it. I put a positive spin on my whole experience, but I think I made my point about how " easy" this all is.

So, I got the most hated comment (for me anyway) the other day:
Someone congratulated me on my weight loss & asked how I did it. I'm always very open and honest about my surgery, so I told her I had the sleeve....
Her reply: "oh, I thought you did it yourself."
My head said "b*tch!" But my mouth said, "well it was a lot of hard work." -- I didn't look, but I could feel her rolling her eyes, but I beat her with the flames coming out my ears.
    People have no clue.
I WORK at this-- the results speak for themselves. I don't have to explain myself to anyone.
We work hard. Pat yourself on the back! This life isn't easy-- it's high maintenance. Not everyone can do what we do. Don't let anyone's opinions bring you down.... Cheers to us!

Great solution. I had a similar situation about a month ago. I too walked around a lot with my father-in law who has beginning stages of dimensia while my mother-in-law was recovering from surgery. I also spent a lot of time on my phone. I walked to the cafeteria and got Water and diligently tried to drink water. That helped. Good luck and I hope everyone is fine.

When I talked to my P.A. about this at my 2 week post-op, he said it was fine. He also implied I might not be able to drink like I was used to. Please remember it is empty calories, though. Enjoy!

I think that the issue comes down to where we are committing ourselves in a very different way to this person than any other. The problem also comes in in that we're not allowed to know if it is a problem or becomes one. Look at Christopher Duntsch.
It happened once and then happened again. The problem is that we don't know if this was an isolated event or not. Whether or not it might happen again or is part of the pattern.
That's where I can understand the response of people going ... I need to move on. In medicine, especially in surgery, cardiology, oncology, its a bigger issue in not just what happened but how the doctor responds to that. If he or she responds maturely to it, I'd say ok. If not, that's where you have to wonder.
The same is true for us, but there is a difference between my friend who maybe is a secretary or stocker at Walmart compared to a surgeon or cardiologist.

I feel you. My husband is a human garbage disposal. He will plow through every bit of food in the fridge and cabinets without a second thought of why it might be there or who it might "belong" to. (My kids have taken to putting post-it notes on certain things so he knows what's earmarked for class parties, teacher gifts, potlucks, etc.)

Right after my surgery I had a huge melt down because all the foods I had specially prepared for my food stages would disappear within hours of me making them. It wasn't pretty. After that, I cleared a cabinet shelf that is just for me along with a fridge drawer. NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO ENTER EITHER. PERIOD. I don't care if the food is rotting into a horrific science fair project, **NO ONE** can touch.

I also bought little round stickers that are different colors (green, yellow, red) and stick them on different items that are mine. Green means fair game, yellow means don't eat the last two and write it on the shopping list, red mean eat at risk of death. It's working.

sandymom got a reaction from catlover602 in 4 weeks post-op. Received first fill. I found out my port is tilted.
I had a band before I had the sleeve (7/22). I wouldn't worry about the tilt. It could just be because of your anatomy. I had a fill by another dr. Because my original surgeon was too far away. He had a little trouble inserting the needle the first time, and mentioned that my port was slightly tilted. He wasn't concerned either.
    Good luck and keep losing!

I am hoping everyone is doing well! The days are getting closer and I am starting my pre-op diet this week. How much weight have you guys lost on the pre-op diet? I have already lost around 20 lbs in the past few months, I am hoping to lose at least 10 more pounds before surgery. I am worrying that I might not meet that goal, because my weight loss is slowing now, like it usually does after the first 15lbs. Well here's to the next couple weeks, and to the scale moving in the right direction!

I had my surgery on the 18th. I too would love a friend that I could talk to about what we are going through. Let's face it no one but someone who has been there knows what we are going through. I have my emotional days, today is one of them. I think I'm just needing to get out more jtausdrew@gmail.com or private message me.

I had a lap band before my sleeve, and I got a runny nose, but it was my sign I had OVER eaten, and I was going to get sick. Not good
Anyway, stay strong as you are going out to lunch with your work people. I am going out of town this weekend, but everyone knows what's going on, so it shouldn't be too bad. Have a great day!

Hi! I was sleeved on July 1 in puerto vallarta mexico as a self pay. At the time of surgery, my BMI was. 34.86. I'm short (5.0) and carry my weight in the mid section. I am happy to report that I had zero complications from surgery. I woke up, walked around, and felt pretty good. I spent additional days in PV and was able to do a lot of walking with my family with no problems at all. I started full liquids today and had cream of broccoli Soup which was yummy. I also started my Premier Protein shakes.

@@sandymom I don't have any hard suggestions because some days I struggle with one or the other. Yesterday, it was both. However, I did try some strained Campbell's broccoli cheese Soup with fat free milk and a packet of Unjury unflavored Protein Powder. I was only able to take in about 4 ounces before I started feeling something that I guess is my new "full". I think all in all that was about 14 grams of Protein. Compared to what we're supposed to have, that's not much, but it's something different than drinking a sweet Protein Shake.< /p>

Exactly one week down and 20lbs gone (from max weight), but I am having a horrible time with drinking the protein! And I'm pushing getting in enough fluids. I'm getting very discouraged because by the end of the day, I feel like crap. Anyone have any suggestions?
