Thanks for sharing. It's great to see that this science is finally being taken seriously. Ironically, we've been doing fecal transplants and rumen transfaunations in animals for decades.
I was very fortunate to have a PCP and gastroenterologist that were familiar and comfortable with fecal transplants. My PCP actually said that's what i should do the very day I came back positive for C. diff. But we went through the motions of traditional antibiotic treatment for 6 weeks since my insurance wouldn't pay for the transplant. After needing IV fluids 3 times for dehydration from the severe diarrhea I finally said screw it, here's my credit card....bring on the poo. My gastro had already done about three dozen of them, so he had the routine down pat. I had to find my own donor and also had to supply my own blender since the surgical center doesn't have any "official" FMT equipment. Still, not bad medical care for rural Idaho!

My surgeon is actually leading a clinical study on this. I signed up to participate but I was supposed to provide a stool sample one week pre-op, but I was at work, so the timing didn't work out. They did take some blood and a fat sample.

I'm 14 days post-op and my scale has been bouncing up and down a bit, but I know that it's bloat due to my upcoming menstrual cycle.
Just keep following the rules and hang in there. Your body is still in freak out mode.

Follow your plan and what your team has instructed you to do. What you should do right now is just focus on recovering. You just had surgery and your body has gone through a lot of trauma. Everything will even out. Don't stress, stay off the scale, drink your fluids, Protein ect... You will be just fine!

i am also a volume eater--if that helps. i will admit, my sleeve immediately after surgery can hold more than i expected it could, and i was alarmed because i thought that meant i would slip back into the horror pit of volume eating. but i am doing so very well with never allowing myself to go beyond being "satisfied", it's amazing! i don't allow myself to get "full". i stop at "satisfied". i also now have the understanding that if i want more, i can go back later.
i used to be a hoard eater--eating everything like i was hoarding it. i would tell myself, "you can go back and get more later" but i would find myself stuffing myself to sickness, because i just couldn't bring myself to "come back later".
now, i find myself putting half of my drinks away, putting half of my yogurt back, everything. and voila! when i go back later, a bit hungry again, it is there. i have overcome a problem that i've had for years literally in a week.
    i heart my sleeve.

Quest4TheNewMe reacted to McButterpants in What a difference a year makes...gobble, gobble.
Last year at this time I was about 2 weeks post-op. Some of my family didn't know I had weight loss surgery, so I pretended to be sick and stayed at home. I was cleared for a tiny bit of mashed potato and a little (well chewed) turkey. I remember thinking "What did I do to myself?" I felt sorry for myself.
The following 12 months was a whirlwind of emotion, hard work, giggles, tears, frustration, etc. If there was an emotion, I felt it.
Today, I ran a 5K to support our local food bank. A year ago, I would have never imagined I would run a 5K - OK, full disclosure, I ran and walked. A year ago I would have never imagined I would be addicted to hot yoga and I love to hike. I love being active.
So, for all you guys that are newly post-op or soon to be post-op - there is light at the end of the tunnel. You're going to struggle, you're going to feel high highs and low lows. But you will get thru this and you'll find out you're so much stronger than you thought you were. I finally realized I am so much more than a number on the scale.< /p>
Today I am thankful for this forum - it has helped me greatly over the past 15 months. I am thankful for the surgery that saved my life. I am thankful for my body that didn't give in even though I've abused it for decades.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving, you guys! Take good care of yourselves.

I am now 12 days post op and still wearing mine. It makes a huge difference in supporting my abdomen and incisions. Without the binder on it feels like the weight of my stomach pulling down really pulls on the incisions. It is a tremendous help to support my belly when I am asleep too! I will keep wearing it as long as I need and as long as my incisions hurt with movement and pulling.

I did mix unflavored Protein Powder in mashed potatoes during my pureed stage. But overall, I avoided all white carbs (potatoes, rice, bread) until I was at goal. And even now they are a rare thing....maybe 2-3 times/month. (but ask me again after this Thursday ???? )

I have worn one for a couple years off and on for a hernia issue. I'm so used to it that it feels weird without it. I call it my mirdle, (man girdle). I'm having surgery again in a few months to fix the hernia, so it looks like I'll be giving it up soon!
