LisaNLasVegas got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in 9 days out and wondering why I don't feel any different?
No problems, here, thank God. I was revision band to sleeve 6 days ago - going back to work today. Pain meds for 2 days only because I didn't want to feel any breakthrough pain (but never did).
I can drink an 11 ounce Protein shake at one time (well, taking about an hour, lol). Get all my Water every day, since 2 days after surgery.
I haven't tried any food that will fill my sleeve yet. I will try applesauce tomorrow, but I don't expect any problems.
Yay for the boring patients! I love it when my doctor tells me I'm boring!

LisaNLasVegas got a reaction from BeagleLover in Hospital/Surgery experience. Please tell.
My experience was very different - I had Surgery this past Tuesday, August 5.
When I arrived at the hospital at 6am, the bariatric coordinator took me over to pre op, and took my sister to the waiting room. Pre op asked me questions about my history and I changed into a gown. I went to my bed and they put the compression stockings on my legs and started an IV. I was then given 2 percocets by mouth, a pain reliever and anti biotic in my IV, and was given a patch behind my ear for nausea. (My doctor truly believes in preventative care, so he loads his patients first). They then went and got my sister to wait with me. After about an hour, they took me to the waiting room in the OR, where my sister could not come. I was the first patient of the day, but my doc had an emergency, so I would guess he started my surgery about 9am. I woke up in the recovery room and cleared my throat a little - wasn't really in pain at all. The nurse gave me some ice chips (again, most will not, but my doc does the leak test right after surgery while you are still out and knew I was ok to drink). Then I was taken back over to the pre op area and rested. My sister came back in and we just waited until I felt ok to go home. Yes, I went home the same day. No drains, no catheters, no pain drip. I got up a couple of times and walked to the bathroom and felt ok, considering. I went home at about 4pm and have had no issues. I took a shower without help the next morning. The first day it was hard to swallow my pain pills which were not liquid. I had to cut them in half. I took no nausea medicine and I only took the pain meds for 2 days. First night I slept in my recliner. The next few nights I slept in my bed on my back - but my bed is adjustable, so I had the head up like a hospital bed. Last night (5 days later) I slept with my bed flat on my side and feel great this morning! I had the gas pains on day 2, but I used a heating pad and Gas X and it helped. I'm ready to go back to work tomorrow (4 days off including surgery day). I might only work 1/2 day, though. I don't want to force myself to get up too early in the morning.
I hope this helps. Some people have told me that I must have a high pain tolerance. I don't think I do - in fact, I think I'm a baby when it comes to pain. I really didn't feel any. Just when I was going to stand from sitting or sit from standing, my incisions would pull and hurt a little. For that, you just hold pressure on them with your hand or a pillow and it is fine.
Good luck to you! You will do great!

LisaNLasVegas got a reaction from toohot74akaelh2 in Protein shakes?
I am using the Premier Protein chocolate shakes (pre-mixed) from Sams Club. I like them because they also have a screw lid on them, so I can drink half and put the rest back in the fridge until my next meal. They are 11 ounces and 30 grams of Protein. I split them between 2 meals and for my third meal I use Unjury chicken Soup flavor broth with 21 grams of protein. That gives me 51 grams. It has been good for the past 4 days - next week I will add another cup of broth to total 72 grams a day. My doc suggests 40 - 60 the first 2 weeks, then 60 - 80 for the rest.
Good luck! Time will fly by!

LisaNLasVegas got a reaction from waitingtoexhale in Give it to me straight.
I had a band removal, hernia repair and gastric sleeve on Tuesday (3 days ago). It was all done as outpatient. I got the the hospital at 6am and was home on my own couch by about 4:30pm. It has been 3 days and I feel great, except for a little tenderness on my larger incision when I get up or sit down, or when I turn onto my side during the night. I don't have kids to worry about, but I have 3 dogs. I have been able to feed them and even go in the backyard to pick up the poop! On day 2 (yesterday), I woke up with the dreaded shoulder pain. I put a heating pad on my shoulder and used the Gas X strips. The pain lasted about 1 1/2 hours. I am not on any pain meds and I am going stir crazy in my house! I have been walking in circles a lot, which helps. The hardest part is trying to get all the liquids down, because it takes me about an hour to sip a glass of Water. That, however, has gotten better today, as well. I honestly thought it would be a lot worse. It hasn't been "difficult" or "hard" for me at all! Yay I'm a lucky one! Good luck to you!

LisaNLasVegas got a reaction from mermaiddreams in If there was a Class Action Lawsuit against the band....
No I wouldn't. If I did not have the band, I would be 100+ pounds from where I am now. My weight was continuing to go up and up and up. It was my tool to STOP the madness. Yes, I am getting a revision and still have a BMI of 39, but I know if I didn't get the band my BMI would be WAY more than that. It served it's purpose and now I'm ready to trade it in for a newer model!

Those are the questions I just can't tolerate anymore. Everyone will stall and, no, you won't lose 100 pounds in 2 weeks. So many people waited months for surgery and then whine that they haven't lost weight fast enough. I don't even read them anymore.

I'm scheduled for Aug 5 as well! Was tentatively set for July 31, but once I got approval that date was full, so I was pushed back a few days. It worked out, because my birthday is Aug 1 and the first date would mean I would be in the hospital for my birthday. Now I can have my birthday with my family and get my late gift a few days later!
Where is everyone? I am in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Usually when someone says "no offense", what follows is quite offensive. Case in point above.
Who said that kids were "running riot" "all day"? What a bizarre assumption. We don't even know how old the children are, do we? Do we now have to micromanage our children to be considered good parents? Sucks for me, then.

2 things that happened this morning:
    1. I can't wait to put on a tee shirt and not intentionally stretch the heck out of it before I put it on- just wear it "as is."
    2. I have a sports car, and can't wait to sit down gently in the seat - not go with the 1-2-3-DROP method of getting in the driver's seat! Getting out is another issue.....

I'm on the pre op diet and my brain believes I am starving. I really am not - my calorie intake is close to 1000 calories a day (my doc recommends 2-3 shakes - depending on hunger- and one "lean and green" meal). But WHY, oh WHY does EVERY commercial have to be about food? ??
Anyone else notice this? It's annoying!

The end of day 5 of 7 pre-op, I have noticed the number of coupons for my favorite restaurants have increase by 100% that come to my email inbox. They tell me to "come on down and enjoy a free appetizer on us. " I can't eat but I can dream. One day, I will be able to smell my favorite appetizer. Until then I will just dream!

LisaNLasVegas reacted to Mrs.RRn in My FL vacation :)
I spent the past week in Florida (my first real vacation since my VSG just over a year ago). We had a blast!!-- 1 week at Vero Beach and a couple days at Disney (Magic Kingdom).
I was surprised and excited to see how wonderful vacation is as an average sized person. I wore a bathing suit, played in the sand, kept up without getting out of breath, my feet didn't hurt, and it wasn't NEARLY as HOT as I remembered other vacations to be. LOL. I felt comfortable in my own skin & fit in all the rides -- I skipped my family's last trip to Disney bc I was embarrassed I wouldn't fit on some rides-- anyway-- It was AWESOME!
    So... About the food:
For the most part, I eat very well at home. Very few packaged food (only dairy, nuts, Protein supplements, and peanut butter)) and the rest of my diet is fresh produce and meats.
As for our trip, I decided to take a vacation from my way of eating while on vacation. I still focused on protein and ate small portions, but I went a little wild on my choices of Snacks at Magic Kingdom. My husband (who also follows a low carb/ high protein diet) says, "there's no rules on vacation!" LOL
My confession: at Disney I ate a Mickey icecream bar, a fruit smoothie, 5 French fries, and shared an icecream sundae with my husband. GASP! I also had 3 alcoholic beverages during my week (of which I can only drink about 1/3 ).
Confession continued: nothing tastes as good as I remembered. Nothing gave me the high it once did. I didn't crave it. I didn't love any of it. And afterwards, Those poor food choices made me feel tired & down... Just no energy. That trash did nothing good for my body.
Junk makes you feel like junk.
So I had a WONDERFUL vacation, but I'm happy to be back to my normal eating & drinking habits.
Here's a few pic of my trip along with some food & beverage choices. And a pic of the safety bar on a ride that doesn't keep me very safe bc I'm so much smaller than my husband now. HAHAHA.

Bottom line - if you don't want anyone to know, then have your surgery in another country and don't tell ANYONE!
People are always looking for - "don't tell anyone, but...." It will always get out. That's why I decided to be open about it. I'd rather people just know rather than thinking they have one of my deep dark secrets! I'm not posting on Facebook, but I don't really care who knows. That way I can't get mad at anyone!
