  1. Happy early Birthday and congratulations on getting started with the process. It will happen when it is meant to happen. Patience and polite persistence will get you to your goal, but it does take some time to get through all of the pre-op assessments. Best of luck and keep us posted on how you are doing. 2. I don't know but she had lots of help: nutritionist house calls, the ray via Skype, physical therapy, etc. What made Penny so infuriating was that she HAD so much help but her own illness/delusion/denial was the main barrier to her progress. As portrayed on the show she was a master manipulator who took no responsibility for her own health and recovery. Everything was someone else's' fault. I just can't get over the fact that she had a position of responsibility and actually supervised other people according to a recent post on here by a former colleague. SMH. 3. Thank you for posting this! It should be required reading. Thank you for posting this! It should be required reading.
  4. Bumping for all the folks who are about three weeks post-op.
  5. I have had a couple of instances of running into acquaintances in a public place who probably didn't recognize me.
  6. So far I like the raspberry, lemon, chocolate and caramel. I recommend that you get samples of all of them. You are going to be taking a lot of calcium supplements every day so you will have an opportunity to try different flavors and mix them up. You don't have to have the same flavor three times a day.
  7. Is your surgeon's program a Center of Excellence? I am really curious why his instructions are so far off of anything I have heard.
  8. The first time anyone noticed (or at least told me they noticed) was my first post-op surgeon's appointment. My mom went with me and as we were walking in my mom said that I seemed to be "jigglier". I laughed because I had noticed the same thing. Then, the ladies in the front office also said they noticed a change.

  10. Early out I liked: Syntrax Nectars ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil soups
  11. I use: Drugstore.com (you can get vitamins, GNC, quest, etc. from them) Amazon Bariatric Choice My surgeon's office Walmart/sam's club Costco Direct from Quest Direct from Syntrax BariatricPal store

  13. I see too many people equate protein supplements and shakes with protein. Protein shakes/supplements are one source of protein. A very important and efficient way to get protein soon after surgery, but it is just one source of protein. Protein is a macronutrient. Calories are a unit of energy. Protein, carbs, and fats are all macronutrients. All macronutrients have calories. Protein is a vital macronutrient for survival, and health that we consume to acquire. We efficiently store carbs and fats in our bodies. We do not store protein. Since we are obese, we can go a pretty long time on the energy stored from carbs and fats. We cannot go very long without protein. We need protein for daily functions. We need protein to build muscle, skin, hair, etc. As we lose weight our body is dismantling and rebuilding our bodies at a heightened rate. If we do not consume sufficient protein for all of this then our bodies 1) consume our own protein (muscle tissue, organ tissue, etc.), 2) shut down to conserve energy (starve and not burn energy), etc.). Many of us use protein supplements/shakes to get enough protein as our stomachs heal. As we transition to more solid food we can get more of our protein from food. Whether you use shakes and/or food, the priority is protein (not calories). The bottom line is we need enough protein, throughout the day, to 1) function, 2) avoid muscle loss, heart and lung problems, etc. 3) rebuild our body from fat loss 4) keep our skin elastic, etc. etc. If we are getting enough protein we can optimize weight loss and minimize health problems associated with weight loss. I hope this helps answer the OPs question. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  14. Congratulations! Yeah, you! This is awesome!
  15. Welcome. I am so sorry to hear that even with insurance it will be cost prohibitive. It is great to hear that you are still committed though. My insurance didn't cover my surgery at all, so I had to do some exploration myself. Because I am on disability, I was able to find a program through our State's vocational rehab program that paid for the surgery. I had to pay for some of my pre-op testing, etc. myself (some covered my my insurance and some not), but it was a big help. If you are in danger of losing your job due to your health or even underemployed because of it, it might be an option for you.
  16. Deviled eggs would be great for Easter. Some other ideas: Bean dip baked ricotta, Brie or other cheese Cheese platter Marinated Mozarella Hummus Chili Meatballs Roasted vegetables Antipasto platter Crudités
  17. Try eating a little more and aiming to hit closer to 100 grams of protein rather than 70 grams. I also agree that you might want to shake up your exercise routine a bit. How is your mobility? Could you sign up for an exercise or dance class? My favorite exercise is swimming. It's good for both my body and soul.
  18. You mention Water and calories but not Protein. What is your protein target? Your calories SEEM low, but without more information it is hard to tell. Have you talked to your NUT lately? If you are exercising intensely you might not be eating enough. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  19. If you need to stick to no supplements then you will just need to eat more often. You have to get enough Protein.
  20. I like inexpensive clothes as much as anyone, but I really don't want to help perpetrate worldwide labor abuses. My sister-in-law is Chinese and I know that a lot of good comes out of China, but I have a very hard time buying cheap anything from Chiba knowing their record on labor abuse. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to tell where most things are manufactured since there are so many steps in the production process.
  21. Here is another good article about Anxiety. http://www.elephantjournal.com/2014/05/anxiety-the-underlying-cause-everyone-should-know-about-bella-dodds/
  22. I didn't have RNY, I was sleeved, so take this in context: I eat chocolate all the time: Chocolate Calcium chews Chocolate Protein shakes Chocolate protein pudding Chocolate Protein Bars Chocolate PB2 Chocolate protein hot chocolate Chocolate tea You get the idea. I even have had on occasion some real, rich dark chocolate (no cheap crap -- if I am going to eat the real stuff it is going to be good).
  23. The first link wouldn't load. I did read the second or third. I get her point but the first thing I thought when I read the 2nd link is "Isn't Alibaba a site that sells Chinese knockoffs?" They probably just picked the largest slave laborer in their employ and made her "wear" the leggings so they could take a picture. They probably don't have a lot of plus-sized folks working for them. Am I bad?
  24. I agree. Stay off the scale and focus on what you CAN control: following your program. Make sure you are reaching your Protein target every day. Make sure you are exceeding your Fluid target every day. Avoid starches and added sugars. Eat slowly and mindfully. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. And, stay off the scale. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
