  1. Normally, I recommend that people stay off the scale in the first few months post-op. Almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks post-op. But, since you know your body fat percentage went up then it is a good indication that you have lost some muscle. That is one reason why getting in enough Protein is critical. If we do not consume enough for our daily needs, our body uses the protein in our bodies (mostly muscle and organs). Focus on getting in your protein and fluids and stay off the scale for a while. I hope you had fun on your vacation
  2. I use protein powder/shakes/supplements because it is an easy way to get enough protein, especially early post-op when it is hard to consume enough food /liquids to get in the required protein. If you do not get enough protein it will hinder healing, and weight loss. If you are chronically protein deficient, you could experience serious health repercussions. As to $100 for a tub of protein supplement, that is pretty expensive. I certainly wouldn't buy 3 pounds of anything until I determined if I even liked it. Try sample or single-serve packs until you find something you like. Premier Protein ready to drink shakes are pretty universally liked and tolerated.
  3. I like Palmet's cocoa butter and cocoa oil. I also got some goats milk belly balm that smells and feels fabulous. All of the above have Vitamin e. I mostly use them because I love the smell!
  4. Personally, I think it sounds like you are making it harder than it is.
  5. Try starting a new thread, or at the very least responding to a recent thread. If you post on a thread, especially a new question, then it may take time for someone to see it. In the meantime, if you are experiencing serious difficulties and don't have the patience to wait on a response from this forum, then please call your surgeon and/or NUT with your questions. That should be your first source of information anyway. We can share our experiences and opinions, but not medical advice.
  6. Lovely. Best of luck on your journey. You are embarking on a grand adventure.
  7. I just saw this, too. If you need help with a specific issue, you will get more responses if you post a question in a new thread rather than on a thread that is a couple of years old. It sounds like you need to slow down, measure out your portions, take a small bite (try using an appetizer or toddler utensil), count your chews (aim for 20), put your utensil down between bites, pay attention to what you are eating, and take your time. You will get the hang of it.
  8. Sounds like a perfect time to talk about it.
  9. If your name is in an account you are not using then get your name off of it asap. The last thing you need is for him to start bouncing checks just for spite.
  10. Best of luck. Keep us posted on how you are doing. See you on the other side!
  11. It's due to a combination of the shock of the surgery/anesthesia and lack of Protein. hair loss is temporary. Just make sure you are taking your Vitamins and getting in all of your protein and it will grow back.
  12. Please call your surgeon. That doesn't sound right. Were you prescribed pain meds for home?
  13. I agree with others. I don't eat back my exercise calories. I would recommend that you not do really intense exercise until you are able to consume at least 1000+ calories a day, though.
  14. I was sleeved April 20 a year ago and have been taking all the supplements as instructed and feel great. At my year follow up, I was told that if all my labs come back good, then I can drop back to just taking a multivitamin. I would be doing that anyway whether or not I had surgery so I don't see it as a burden. It is a good idea for most modern, healthy adults (and children) to take a multivitamin.
  15. My primary focus was and is getting in enough protein and fluids. That said, if you can get 800 calories, then go for it. Anything under 800 or even 1000 calories isn't sustainable and can actually inhibit your weight loss.
  16. There is another recent post with great advice about making new friends.
  17. And to your other point, in retrospect, knowing what I do now, I was definitely protein deficient pre-op. About all I ate were carbs and starches.
  18. Stay hydrated. You will feel much better soon!
  19. Why has your protein requirement dropped. Mine is at least 100 grams for life, no matter what I weigh. My surgeon based it on my highest weight and explained that my body is not going to respond well unless I get that much because it will think I am starving.
  20. I agree that you may find counseling helpful. You may be experiencing some strong emotions due to erratic hormones this early out. For many of us, not being able to use our default coping mechanism (food) can be difficult. The bottom line is that you cannot turn back the clock and change your current situation. You can learn to make the best of it. It will get better. Keeping hydrated and keeping up your Protein will help a great deal.
  21. Whether you are pre-op or post-op, we ALL need enough fluids and Protein If you are on pre-op, why are you having trouble getting enough fluids and protein? Is there some reason you cannot drink normally?
  22. I started out at almost 600 pounds and currently in the 300s. I highly recommend swimming, water aerobics, water weights, etc. It is easy on your joints and I can do so much more in the water than I can still do on dry land.
  23. Happy tears? Grieving for the woman who had surgery? A combination? Who knows. Obviously you have some very strong feelings. That is ok. You are allowed. Congratulations on the weight loss by the way.
  24. Yes. Also check with your PCP. I get a discounted membership to our local hospital's wellness center because my PCP gave me a medical referral.
  25. I love Sonic ice! Today for Breakfast, I mixed a packet of no-sugar added carnation breakfast essentials chocolate in a packet of prepared weight control oatmeal and added PB2. It tasted like chocolate Peanut Butter oatmeal drop Cookies.
