Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!
My date is October 17th. I did most of my preop testing. I have a sleep study next Wed. I think the hardest part for me will be the two-week liquid diet. Fortunately, my doctor allows me to have small dinner (protein &veggies) but liquids during the day. I will have to think of the end result to et me through. Giving up my coffee will be a doozie!

The BIG Book on the Gastric Sleeve!
I received my book a couple weeks ago. My daughter was under the weather last weekend, so while she took a four hour nap, I read -almost nonstop. This weekend I'm not feeling well, so I had more time to read (in between naps). I'm just about done and love it. Easy read and I like how it takes us from A-Z. By the way, I bought another book from Amazon (on gastric sleeve) . it was highly rated but I put it down to ready this one. Thank you.

Do not get discouraged, you will do just fine. Best wishes for a quick and painless recovery and Follow doctors orders post- op,even if he is insensitive

Total Newbie- Looking for fellow newbies!
Hi beckalou! Welcome. I did the home sleep study 1st and was told I have severe sleep apnea. So I go back next Tuesday for the overnight sleep study. Several people have told me that once you get the device you will notice a big difference (for the better) I'm told I will wake up more rested. However, you've got me worried. I've done all my pre-op testing & I see my surgeon on Friday. I was hopeful he may give me my surgery date. now I'm concerned about my insurance requirements with the CPAP. Oh well.

Iron supplement
My nutritionist gave me a sample of iron pills to try as well,(ferretts iron supplement.) I take them at night before going to bed and I have no side effects. I read on another thread where someone was complaining about the same thing. A few members recommended Garden of life iron pill. I've never tried it but just passing along the information. Good luck.

Getting My Head Straight…Using Affirmations
Haven't had my surgery yet but I definitely believe in affirmations. One of my favorites is " your thoughts become your reality" Helps me to remain positive and hopefully will translate into a successful weight loss.

My surgery won't be until October so unfortunately, I don't have much to share- i'm relatively new too. However, any question you could possibly think of you should find the answer on this site. I also ordered a couple books from Amazon to help me along this journey. You can never be too prepared. As far as the bar exam goes.... You passed it, "your thoughts become your reality". How to disable or use the chat now feature on iPad
The other day I rec'd a pop-up saying someone wanted to chat. When I clicked on it, I got a message stating my "web app Extension is not configured & to contact admin to configure through cometchat administration panel." Huh????? I sent an email to Bariatricpal for help, no response yet. Meanwhile, if I sign in, EVERY TIME I go to a new page, I get FOUR CONSECUTIVE POPUPS reminding me I have chat messages. I have to stay signed out to read the threads! Someone help, it's driving me bananas

Total Newbie- Looking for fellow newbies!
Hi Katie, I have an HMO, so yes, I had to get a referral. Because I have to high BMI it was no problem getting approved. I met w/the bariatric team in June which inc the nurse, nutritionist, exercise physiologist & the surgeon. Everyone was super friendly. My first appt lasted three hours. They gave me a printout of everything we discussed, which was helpful, because the first appointment was so overwhelming. I was instructed to do the following: pulmonary test, blood work, chest X-ray, resting metabolic test, stress test, psychologist, ultrasound of the gallbladder & sleep study. I have two more test to go. I met w/the bariatric team again in July- it was basically a follow-up. My next appointment with them is in August and I will get my date then, provided all my test results are in. Will prob get sleeved in Oct. no weight loss requirements. Whew! A lot right? But I know it will be well worth it in the end. Good luck at your first appointment!

Total Newbie- Looking for fellow newbies!
Hi Amy, I have bcbsil as well. Be careful doing all the pre-op requirements too soon. my surgeon told me some test are only good for 90 days before surgery. unfortunately, I can't remember which ones. Just check w/your doctor. It would be a bummer to have to go through testing twice. Best wishes

Told My Parents
Hi Jamie, I too was nervous about telling my parents (and I'm not young). Thankfully, I received the same reaction &support as you. My sister has been my biggest cheerleader. It Feels good be open & honest. A good support system is really important when you go through this process. Good luck w/telling your sister but I'm sure you won't need any luck
