I was an overweight, obese kid. I was over 200 at age 7, over 300 at age 13. I had never gone below 300 in the 18 years that followed that age 13 weigh in. I had the sleeve surgery in Aug 2014....On January 31st I weighed in at 299. Today I'm 274. Has it been hard? Yes Has it sucked at times? Yes Was it worth it? Heck Yes No diet had ever worked before (see the statement about being over 300 since age 13) but this did and does. It saved my life and changed my life Just my experience.

I'm BCBS New Jersey and was sleeved in August. I didn't have a 12 month requirement. However, I have the NJ Direct version which I think it a lot more flexible

Hi there, I was sleeved by Dr. Schmidt as well. I called him Dr. Rockstar in the hospital, lol. He's the head of bariatric surgery at Hackensack so I felt comfortable going to him. In addition, when I was asking about complications, his numbers were much lower than average. They use three staples on the staple line instead of two.

The main group is FatToo. They have a bunch of different subgroups but it's all there on the main page. (for instance, FatToo ISO, FatToo Grand (for 28+), etc)

I'm a member of a group on facebook where you can sell your *gently* used clothing. Items normally range from 10 to 20 dollars plus shipping. It's exclusively for plus-sized ladies. I've been selling my largest stuff and using the money to purchase the next size down. Then, when I hit that size, list those and buy the next one. There's even a group where you can specifically request things in a certain size. I can link you if you'd like :-) Other options: belt worked for a bit, goodwill, ebay (search for "clothing lot YOUR SIZE"), if you're good with a needle you can seam some pants/skirts, and some bariatic support groups offer clothing exchanges. Anyway, CONGRATS :-) and welcome to the losers bench.

So, as a follow up. On Monday, I put on my size 34 pants and once again, they fit, maybe a bit tight. This morning, while sorting through a pile of old clothing I found my favorite dress pants: size 28. I decided to try them on, just to see whether I could get them up. Well, shock of all shock, they fit!! I tried on the 34s and they're pretty much falling down. Crazy how fast this can change!

Hi everyone, Just wanted to check in and post my 2 month progress. It's been a long journey so far but it's also been exciting! When I first checked into the hospital, I joked with my husband that I was going to run for it, IV pole, hospital gown, and all. I was seriously scared to death. But, I went through with it and woke up in a tremendous amount of pain. I felt like I'd done a 1,000 sit ups. 30 minutes later, they had it under control and I was on my way. I was kept 2 nights due to acid but finally released. Wound up hospitalized at 3 weeks for dehydration. However, that was the most serious complication. Today is my 2 month sleeve-versity. I'm 46 pounds lighter and feel awesome. I can't wait to see what other changes are coming. I'm posting pics for your viewing pleasure :-)

I seriously considered making a break for it, IV, hospital gown and all. I threatened it and everything. On a more serious note, the only way I made it threw was by detaching myself from the situation. I'm not really proud of it but I knew if I thought about it at all I'd leave and never go through with it. So that was my way of beating the fear.

The day of my surgery I weighed in at 398.8. I am now 352.6 exactly 2 months after surgery

I'm a forever fluffy :-) I've been over 300 pounds since I was 13. I set my goal based on the amount of weight my surgeon thinks I can loose. Being under 300 is like a dream so I'm happy (so far) with a goal of 220

I used http://obesitycoverage.com/your-new-weight-calculator/ to see what my weight would be based on each surgery. FOR ME there was only a 27 pound difference between bypass and sleeve. I decided FOR ME that 27 pounds wasn't worth the added complications and dumping syndrome. That's FOR ME of course :-) Good luck on your decision

Ladies, thanks SO much, I feel a ton better. I was totally confused because my tight pants are still tight, lol. I am a bit slimmer in the face and a bit of the muffin top is gone so I'm sure the rest will come soon. I'm currently a 34/36 and have a full wardrobe in every size down to a 22, lol. My mom let me store bins in her attic so I'm really excited to finally need them. Luckily, stuff won't be out of style because I've always dressed in classic pieces.
