Hello all I am 11 Days Post-Op and all is well. I am still on my liquid diet =(. I haven't had any problems with nausea or vomiting. Only complications I have had was with my big incision bleeding. No infection or swelling, it's just the knot of the stitch came out so the skin has to mend back together. My Nut isn't worried so I'm not either. Can't wait to start my next phase: purée foods. Good Luck to everyone Pre and Post Op.

My surgery is on July 9, 2014. Pre-op diet starts on the 25th. I am not going to lie, since I found out my surgery date, I have been having food funerals!! You name it I have had it. Just to remember the taste. My Bday is on the 27th of July and I had my birthday cake yesterday. Figures right. Well I am tired of it all. The food has me feeling sick and I ready to start my pre-op diet. I am ready for my new life on the 9th.

Hi my surgery is on the 9th as well. Time is flying. And to say I started this process on May 15. I was having major anxiety on July 1 because I couldn't believe it was July already. I hope you have a complication free operation, surgery buddy!

Congrats JO so happy for you. Maybe try some Gas X strips or chewable to relieve some of the pressure. Hopefully you get out soon.

I am in the process of getting my surgery hoping for end of August. Reading all of you top tens are all amazing and I can relate to most of them.. Here are mine!
    1. Be able to have children
    2. To never wear plus sized clothes again
    3. To feel confident in a pair of jeans and not worry about rolls hanging over. Or feel like I'm being suffocated. Yoga pants have been my friend for far too long!
    4. To not have to worry where I sit in public places because I'm scared I won't fit!
    5. To travel by plane and not have to ask for a seatbelt extender.
    6. To get a half sleeve tattoo.. Wouldn't think of getting one now with these jumbo arms!
    7. To explore many positions with my man!
    8. To not always be the straggler in the group because I can't walk as fast as everyone!
    9. I've always wanted to be able to do a push up! May not be a big deal to others but it is to me!
    10. My best friend is getting married next year and I am in the wedding with 4 skinny minis and I want to feel confident standing up there beside everyone!

    Hello all!
I recently had RNY GB (6/11/14). Feeling great so far!
I'm 34 and before surgery, I tipped the scales at a studly 346lbs. After weighing in this morning, I'm at 295!!! I had a "castaway" moment where I looked back at the island (300+lbs for over a decade) and just began to choke up.
My surgeon was the great Dr. Marema, in St Augustine, Fl. I had no complications and was out of the hospital the next day (not typical apparently). In my opinion, the most important part of all of this was the prep. I had 3 weeks and in that 3 weeks I made the tough decision not to be a slave to food and to exercise, exercise, exercise! I ended up losing 30lbs pre-op by following the phase II diet and walking. For anyone having this or any other WLS, I strongly recommend preparing your body any way that you can, so that your recovery can be as seamless as possible.
With it being day 9, the only discomfort I'm having is to the left of my abdomen (muscle wall incisions). It takes a few weeks to truly heal up, I'm told. All other pain subsided for me by post op day 4. My meal regimen has been pretty blah, and this surgery will not discontinue your head hunger or cravings I'm finding, but it does make me full and my pouch keeps me wanting to be honest (or suffer the consequences!!).
I wanted to join this forum to discuss my journey and the journey's of others, so if I can answer any questions from anyone considering this surgery, please don't hesitate to
    Let me know!!
    Thanks all!!!
    Matt

Nattyboo reacted to Racewalker48 in Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy or Gastric Bypass for 100+ weight loss
I had bypass 4 months ago and would not have considered the sleeve as I had GERD. I chose bypass as I considered it the gold standard for WLS, with the most data on success and complications. The sleeve is now becoming more and more popular and I understand why. It also allows for successful weight loss and is less invasive.
I wanted to give myself the best chance of weight loss and maintenance and to relieve my GERD, so RNY was for me. I also liked that fact that RNY gives you both restriction with the pouch and malabsorption with the intestinal bypass. The malabsorption is a benefit, but can also be a problem if you don't take your Vitamins consistently. So, I take my Vitamins without fail and do my best to maintain good nutrition. So, far, so good, and I am far from perfect. My surgeon told me that this would be the hardest diet I would ever do. He was right.
There are pros and cons to either procedure, hopefully your surgeon will thoroughly go over both procedures so that you can make the best decision for you. One other thing to consider, surgery changes your anatomy, but not your mind, and is a tool for your weight loss journey. I believe that appropriate use of the tool gives you the best change of long term success, regardless of the tool employed. Good luck to you!
