Sleevarilla got a reaction from haleytrim in How necessary is this pre-op diet?
Have you tried the nectar Protein drinks like Roadside Lemonade? Caribbean chiller? They are not on the sweeter side, and aren't thick like a Protein shake. Also, you can add 1 T. of sugar-free Jello, pudding or even cocoa to cut the sweetness. There is also unflavored Protein powder that mixes easily with anything. Also, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup is good.
My doctor required a 2-week pre-op diet and I did what I was told to do. I looked at it like a challenge, and a hoop I had to jump through to get where I needed to be. It's tough, but nothing about WLS is easy.

Why is faster better? Stop and smell the magnolias, enjoy your journey and stop beating yourself up. Haven't we all done that enough?

Sleevarilla got a reaction from KarenF1972 in Got a Fit Bit today - tips?
The FitBit takes into account the calories your burn by just being alive. You can integrate your FitBit with MFP, that's what I did and it's awesome!

Sleevarilla got a reaction from Nychkole2 in "I thought you did this yourself." ...?
I agree, it isn't the easy way out. I made a post in my blog about this, in a way. So what if it is the easy way out? I use a remote control because it's easier than getting my lazy butt up to change channels. I drive a car because it's easier than walking. I use a washing machine because it's easier than using a wash-board. Almost everything in life is done for convenience and ease. Why not provide myself with every possible weapon I can to fight this battle?
I am not as nice as you and would not have been able to respond nicely. Kudos!

Sleevarilla got a reaction from Recycled in CHEATING
My mantra for the entire 2 weeks was "shut up and do it" .. that's the best advice I can give. It sucks. It sucks bad. But it's something you have to do to get where you want to be.

Sleevarilla got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Bump Beneath Incision Hernia?
Best thing to do would be to see your surgeon ... but, soft is probably a hernia and hard might be a reaction to sutures. Or, it could be neither of those, and that's why it would be best to see a doctor

Sleevarilla got a reaction from une nouvelle vie in Weight and Relationships
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt story! I'm sure that many people can relate. For me, I can't wait to be able to wear things that aren't "frumpy", I can't wait to feel like the man I'm with is proud to be with me. Once I find a man, that is! Best of luck to you!

Sleevarilla got a reaction from Summer Rain in Nervous
I didn't want anyone with me in the hospital. I didn't want to make small talk and I didn't want people telling me I would be fine over and over. I wanted to go in my zone and just do this thing already. You CAN do this on your own, you CAN do hard things. Be brave, be strong, don't look back.

Sleevarilla got a reaction from LindafromFlorida in Bullying Other VSG'ers
I really think the word "bullying" is being WAY over-used these days. I certainly don't think someone asking me "what's your excuse?" is bullying me at all. Even if said with derision, I can laugh and blow it off ... and you know why? Because I don't give a flying flip what anyone thinks about me. I am not defined by anyone but myself. Giving people who want to be negative more attention is giving them what they want. TRUE bullying is definitely wrong, but I think this just isn't the definition of bullying.
I think, instead of crying "BULLY!! BULLY!!" it would be better to teach people self-reliance, and show them that they have the power to decide for themselves and tell anyone to get lost (except I'd say something more like "&*!@ off") Wouldn't it be better to have empowered people who are able to rise above things like this then to teach them to cower and cry "BULLY!"? Never, ever, ever let anybody else define you. Own your weaknesses, and like Tyrion said ... "Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it as armor and it can never be used against you."

Sleevarilla got a reaction from Miss Mac in Pre-surgery diet woes
I had two mottos when doing my pre-op diet. "Grin and bear it" and "shut up and do it"
It sucks, no way around it.

Sleevarilla got a reaction from amazon in STUCK TOO SOON
Wow, cut yourself some slack, you just had major abdominal surgery! My surgery was 8/20 and I haven't even gotten on a scale yet. Don't let a number on a scale dictate your level of success at this point. Your new tiny tummy is swollen, and swelling is retaining Fluid. You're working out a lot, have you let your NUT know how many calories you're expending on exercise?
This surgery works, but you have to let your body heal. This isn't a constant downhill loss, it's stair stepping. You may have a month or more go buy where you don't lose. Don't get frustrated this early in the game, this is a lifetime change.

Good luck! The pre-op diet is rough, but keep focused on the bigger picture and you'll make it!

Sleevarilla got a reaction from BeagleLover in Monday, 8/25 was the big day
Hello! My surgery was 8/20 and I too had a hernia repair. Almost all of my pain seems to come from the hernia repair site. Still hurts, but I know it will get better. Hang in there!

Sleevarilla got a reaction from AmyinNC in BCBS of NC
Hi, everyone!
I have a pretty nice plan with BCBS of NC (that I will lose 9/1/14 since the premium increase is so much due to obamacare). As of the middle of this month, BCBS dropped the 6-month supervised diet.
My paperwork was submitted on 7/28/14 and I was approved for surgery today, 8/5/14. Not bad at all, especially since two of those days were the weekend! I have my results visit with my surgeon tomorrow morning. This is all happening lightening fast!
