    I am alone in this

Finding a new family might help! Dying is absolutely stupid stuff.... If you are 100% on board with what needs to be done you will be laughing @ all of these folk in a year or so after you have had a successful surgery

    Calories Don't Matter?

My doctor said exactly this.....don't count or watch anything except cm's/inches & have a fairly simple exercise regime. It has worked in my case. This was explained to me as not having enough calories will cause stall [stopping weight loss] & in some cases even cause gain, as your body is not getting enough/starving & knows it. As I just said I have never been told all this carbs, calories, Protein stuff just to eat enough of anything that pleases, with some common sense balance & importantly, if you don't feel hungry keep your mouth shut & politely ignore peer pressure to conform with others eating volumes/habits.
  3. Really? I have seen this so often even this video But that seems more related to lap band than sleeve IMO. It seems we are all different when it comes to this drinking before & afterward business. My practical experience is I can drink right up to starting to eat. No need to wait. Food recently chewed & in my pouch/stomach, rather than being washed through by drinking actually blocks the Fluid if i try to drink too early & either the fluid or the food or part of both is ejected into the mouth. Not one of those great feelings but easily avoided. I wait until the fullness feeling has dissipated & that is usually around an hour after eating. Why bother pushing the boundaries for no real gain. Just get used to the new you!.

    What foods play well together?

Same here....back to basics with small simple grills & fresh garden salads not smothered in all those creamy sauces, I find to be most appealing/satisfying. The big brekkie I have can be nearly enough for the day, so some balance throughout the rest of the day not because of hunger but to ensure a reasonable calorie intake. I have developed a sweet tooth I never had before, so always leave enough room for a small simple desert maybe 15-30 minutes after finishing the main.

Help need breakfast ideas for traveling

Most fast food joint breakfasts can work fine depending on what you like. Just pick what you choose apart, eat the egg & other parts you like, then throw the rest [wrap, bun etc] in the trash

    Pizza

Skimmed through this long thread & Sharon 1964's statement [page 4?] is what we should be aiming for....being selective in what one chooses to put in their mouth, totally detached from food related emotional considerations. That being said we have homemade pizza from scratch weekly & we need to take into account other family members needs & wants.
  8. 10-15 years prior to WLS surgery I regularly ended up in emergency about 4-5 hours after eating/usually about 2am in the morning. The symptoms were as if I was being pumped up & there was no way to release this blowing up feeling which was extremely painful, distressing & debilitating. Every time tests, x-rays etc were taken but nothing could be pin pointed the cause. Talk of twisted bowel etc but nothing concrete was found & the only immediate solution was a shot of morphine & near instant relief ensued. Was so bad I stopped eating regular evening meals. Had an emergency physician in KCMO suggest immediate surgery, with no diagnostic cause apparent. Glad that poor decision making & cutting never eventuated! Into this a couple of years, I had an apparently unrelated hernia surgery. The bloating problem disappeared. So one might reasonably assume the hernia was causing this other digestive related issue. Definitely worth exploring if the symptoms are similar & it sounds they could be so.

    Funny biz travel moment

Try lox, cream cheese, onion, capers & finished off with greens....basil, rocket etc.
  10. No problem usually in that area but recent un-related major surgery, associated opiate drugs plus laying around in hospital a few days, brought a similar issue forward. Not unusual apparently! I regularly drink a fair bit of lactose free whole milk [self doctored using lacteze] to alleviate the trots, so guess what? Had a glass of un-doctored whole milk & was there within 1/2 hour....all gone & no more issues, except the lingering surgery pain.

    Weight gain

Beer by itself will not cause the problem but everything you put in your mouth added up does. One must choose to cut back on food or beer & we all know what is better for us. Your question about going back to scratch, I don't know. Looking for an easy way to achieve what you did in 2011 is not the best option. Self control is helpful so start adjusting stuff as one would need to do when trying to lose weight without surgery. It will always work, when motivated & thinking clearly.
  12. All good advice especially unreal expectations by NUTS.. Always remember that it requires the right intake to loose weight & starving has the opposite effect.. Good real fresh food including fish meat & eggs is better than any package powders & processed stuff. Chewing is GOOD!
  13. @@JamieLogical Is on the money IMO. What about daily exercise? http://www.zmescience.com/medicine/burned-calories-when-lazy-064346/ We don't burn too many calories laying down, watching TV, sitting typing etc. v/s walking & even just standing. Body & weight reflects what one puts in their mouth v/s what gets used up in daily energy expended. Edit is: Oh I did miss part of the OP's post about 'not enough stomach removed'. Good instruction from both nutritionist & doctor should have told her like they did me & others that if one doesn't keep their mouth shut the new pouch will grow back/stretch to it's original size or bigger then you're on a slippery down slope.

    Hunger!

Similarly qualified Psychs here.... I have seen no one mention meds they may be taking for other conditions that can cause all kind of munchy & weight gaining effects to the brain. Is that a possibility?

    Hunger!

Where I currently live these weight loss type Doctor's always have a team & psych is always part of that team. These psych folk can be very helpful before & after, even if you don't think they could make any difference. I only saw mine once before surgery & haven't since. After Vietnam I had a psych in the US DVA who helped introduced me to CBT when I was @ a terrible cross road. CBT was something I heard about in Psych when doing my teaching qualification, but took little notice of. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-mindful-self-express/201102/lose-the-weight-change-how-you-relate-food CBT has brought my life full circle to where I think positively & am not unlike what I was like before experiencing Vietnam both in the head & now weight, body & self image. You are doing great so far, but why not ask your doctor, if discussing your position with a psych experienced with weight loss clients may help you ride this rough patch you are concerned about? You know what is happening may turn things around & kicking another goal in the right direction
