Albany GA bandsters - speak up...
Mia, it almost looks like a huge rash. I'm glad to see that the port incision looks okay. I would think that if it was an infection due to surgery, the incision would be irritated. I don't know what to tell you. Maybe they'll be able to see you today, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Albany GA bandsters - speak up...
I hope it's not anything serious! I'm not a medical professional, but I've always heard that if the area has fever, it could be an infection. There's no way they can see you today? Just my opinion, but if it was me, I would try to get in today and see them. I'm not trying to scare you, but an infection is something that needs to be taken care of fast, especially infection from surgery. Mia, is the area swollen at all? My son got staph infection from the hospital in Moultrie, and his infection was red, fevered, and swollen to the size of about 1/2 of a golfball.

First Support Group Meeting will be on Feb. 7th in Tifton at Ruby Tuesday @ 6:00 pm If this doesn't work for someone, please let me know and we'll change the time if needed. I'm supposed to start Jury Duty on the 4th, so I don't know exactly what that's going to entail, but hopefully (fingers crossed) when I call in they'll tell me I'm not needed. This meeting is just basically to get to know one another. We're going to have a great time chatting about our experience so far and fellowshipping with one another. I hope as the group grows, we can move our meetings to a building where we can have speakers. Maybe people who have been successful with the band, could share their experiences and tips. Maybe have a nutritionist speak, or even Elizabeth. I'm just excited to get to know everyone! Hope to see everyone there!

Gatorade G2
Sounds like it would be pretty good and a lot better on the calories. I think I read that it has 25 calories per 8 oz, not too bad. I'll definitely try it when it comes out!

Joe from CT
Welcome Joe! You seem to be doing really well. I know exactly what you mean when you say you want to be healthy for your family. I have a soon-to-be 2 year old and my only regret is that I didn't do this before he was born. I wasn't able to do the things moms are supposed to do after he was born. I'm just now getting to where I can run around and play outside some. I'm hoping by the time he turns 3, I'll be healthier and at my goal weight. Good luck on your lap band journey and good luck with starting your family.

I'm Back and a newbie too

The Sweetheart Goal!
Hazeleyegrl, I've heard some people say that their band gets tighter when they are sick or stressed. Maybe that's why you got stuck today? I've never PBed and I hope I never do. I ordered something online called Chewable Super Papaya Enzyme Plus from Puritan's Pride to use in case I ever do get stuck. I've heard several bandsters say that it helps break the food down so it will go down. I also heard that if you take a sip of pineapple juice, it will help break down the food. I have both. I have pineapple juice at home and I carry the papaya enzymes in my purse.

Starting Atkins induction Diet Anyone want to join me????
Guys, I did awful today! I did so good all day and then I went to my sister's bridal shower tonight and I ate some things I shouldn't have. I feel awful about it. It's really sad that I couldn't even last 2 days. I think I'm just going to go back to what I've been doing, which is just eating 3 really small meals a day. I was able to lose 7 lbs last week doing that, so I'm going to forgo the atkins induction for now. I wish you ladies all the best and I hope you all find success with this!

I was thinking around 5:30 or 6:00, what do you guys think? Does that give everyone plenty of time to get there?

The Sweetheart Goal!
Well, I blew it tonight! My sister had a bridal shower at church tonight and I ate some things I shouldn't have. There was all kinds of sweets there. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day. I did manage to exercise today, I did step aerobics for 20 minutes.

4 mo checkup
Hey everyone! I'm doing pretty good, I have had 4 fills with a total of 6ccs in my 10cc band and I have lost a total of 62 lbs so far. I'm really loving my band!!! So far, there isn't anything I can't eat. But I do try my best to stay away from carbs as much as possible. I really need to bump up my exercise. I feel like I have the food part down pretty good. I really hate to exercise, but I have found that switching up my routine regularly makes a big difference. Voondabah- I do order off of the kids menu a lot. Especially at Cracker Barrel, I order the kids grilled chicken strips and green Beans.

Mia- It really drives me nuts that some people think we are taking the "easy way out". Most people who think that just don't know what their talking about. They have no knowledge of this surgery because they haven't researched it. You should just ignore those ignorant comments, because we know that this is hard, no matter what anyone says. Don't let comments like that get to you. I know that's easier said than done, but your friends should be supporting you instead of bringing you down. Your life is going to change for the better, maybe some of your friends could be jealous? I've heard of many bandsters that lose friends over this, but you have to ask yourself, were they really your friends if they can't even support this decision to make you healthier and happier? I'm not saying this is the same as your situation, I hope it isn't. My point is......... don't let them bring you down, it's not worth it!

Albany GA bandsters - speak up...
Mia, I've been there too and it will pass, just give it some time. The first few weeks are really rough. Don't think that you can never have any of your favorite foods. I have had pizza and hamburgers since being banded. The difference is, I only ate like one peice of thin crust pizza or 1/2 of a hamburger with NO fries. It's all about moderation. I'm not saying you should eat these foods regularly, but every once in while it won't kill you. You'll be surprised at how much less you eat. I'm really trying to watch my carbs right now, so I haven't had those kinds of foods in a while. With some bandsters, they can't eat carbs, and some of the others can. Some people choose not to eat them. It all comes down to what works best for you. Many bandsters had success by eating the same foods, just a lot less of it. Don't get overwhelmed with thoughts of giving up foods. You may not have to give up as much as you think.

Albany GA bandsters - speak up...
Welcome Alli, it's nice to meet you! I'm glad you are doing good! Are you by chance drinking Isopure clear protein drinks? I tried to drink those my first week and they made my mouth feel really chalky. When I stopped drinking them, it went away. We would love to have you join us on Feb. 7th if you are able. I can't wait to meet everyone. Good luck and I hope you have a quick recovery! Mia- How is work going? Are you working full days or half days? Hope you have a great day, just don't over do it!

Albany GA bandsters - speak up...
We would love for you join us on the 7th! 30 lbs is nothing to be ashamed of. Remember, not everyone loses fast. I tend to lose in spurts. I just recovered from not losing anything in a whole month. It's very easy to get discouraged when we hit plateaus, but remember, it will pass. I know exactly what you mean about finding time to exercise. I have a soon-to-be 2 year old, and I'm a SAHM too! Before I was banded, I grazed on food all day long, and it has been a very hard habit to break. Night eating was something I struggled with too. I think the reason I ate late at night, was because many times my day had been so hectic, and after hubby and son went to bed, that was my time. Food was very comforting. Food is not comforting to me anymore. I don't enjoy eating like I used to. Sometimes I really miss food, but most of the time I think of food as just something I need to survive. It takes time to change our habits, we can't just change overnight. In the meantime, all we can do is just try our best to get past these obstacles. Lately, I've been exercising during my son's nap. He usually takes at least a 2 hour nap, so that gives me plenty of time to exercise. There are definitely days I don't want to. Hang in there, things will get better and be proud of what you have accomplished so far.

Hello from SC
Welcome Christie! Congratulations on your success, 100 lbs in less than a year is awesome!!!! I hope I can be that successful by my 1 year mark. You're very fortunate to have only needed 2 fills in almost a year. I've already had 4, but my doctor is not quite as aggressive with his fills as some of the others. You probably do need a fill. Don't get discouraged, be proud of what you have accomplished and just hang in there until you get a fill. Good luck to you!

The Sweetheart Goal!
Hazeleyegrl, I've been watching my carbs too, so I've pretty much already been doing it for the most part. I also stay away from all the white stuff, so I'm not really sticking to the induction phase to the T, but I'm just vowing to keep watching the carbs, like I have been already. It seems to be working so I'll keep it up for a while.
