  1. My doctor is even more conservative! Clear liquids for two weeks, full liquids for four weeks, then soft food for ten weeks! It will be 16 weeks before I start eating a regular diet! But if I avoid some of the spitting up and getting stuck that I read about here, it will be worth it to me (I think?) :boink:
  2. Hi, Ann! I'm about to leave for my pre-op visit to the hospital to take care of the paperwork. Then I see my surgeon in the morning for my pre-op visit with him. And that's it until I get to the hospital Thursday morning for the surgery. I had a few moments of anxiousness earlier today when I called my surgeon's office and she said that my GP didn't do all of the labs that were on the list. But then she looked again, after putting me on hold a minute, and said she just looked at it wrong. I was a little anxious because my schedule is so tight that I was wondering how I was going to fit in additional tests and whether they would be back in time! I can't cancel my surgery because I've already cancelled two days of classes and that's kind of hard to "undo." So all is good! I'm getting ahead on grading and classwork as much as I can so that I don't have to do much, if any, while I'm recuperating. Thanks for asking! :boink:
  3. This is the latest list, unless I've missed someone. 6. Fighting Weight. Here's more about it: ABC News: Excerpt: Khaliah Ali's 'Fighting Weight'
  7. I talked to three doctor's offices while I was researching and every one of them said that I should be fine having surgery on Thursday and return to work Tuesday. I teach at a community college so I had to cancel classes on two days. I realize we won't know until we are there ourselves but I'm feeling pretty good about it. Good luck!
  8. Walking, yes, but not exercise. I guess every doctor is different.
  9. I understood that I am not to exercise for six weeks. Perhaps it's too early for you to be on the elliptical?
  10. Thanks for kicking the thread, K@T! This is the first I've seen it. I teach math at a community college. I'm an adjunct so I don't work full time, though I have four classes this semester, including one about 45 minutes away. I also tutor on campus. And I've been doing contract work for a textbook company so this has been a busy fall! I don't have to worry about discipline if I have to leave class, since my students are all adults, but it would be embarrassing, especially if it was in the middle of my lecture. So I plan to be extra careful about what I eat right before class! There's a refrigerator just down the hall from my office. I teach Monday through Thursday. My department chair has given me permission to cancel class on Thursday, the day I'm having surgery, and Monday, and my first class Tuesday is at 6 p.m. so I should have enough time. Also, the time changes next weekend so I get another hour!
  11. Propel is a fitness water made by Gatorade. You can get it a version with calcium, too. It only has 20 calories per bottle and also has vitamins. It's on my doctor's list of liquids I can have. I haven't tried Unjury but several on this board have recommended it. I got mine at Welcome to the UNJURY Homepage. I can't speak from experience yet because my order hasn't arrived yet. But others say it dissolves easily and the unflavored truly has no flavor. They liked the flavors, too. I hope I like it because I ordered a lot!
  12. So glad you got it figured out! My doctor told me that he can tell if the syringe hits the port because of how it reacts -- something about how the plunger encounters resistance, if I remember correctly. I'm definitely not in the medical field! I hope you get great results with your new level of restriction!
  13. It's a great feeling when you realize that this is the right decision. And I'm sure it would be just as great a feeling if you decided it wasn't. It's the in-between that is troublesome! I'm amazed now that I had any doubts. I am truly sold. Good luck! I hope all goes smoothly!
  14. I got broth, SF Jello (to be made so I can add powdered egg whites for extra protein,) Propel, Diet Snapple, liquid Tylenol, and Gas-X strips. I can't have fruit juice until I get to soft foods as my doctor thinks the acid causes too much irritation. I've also ordered Unjury to add to the broth. I have to be on this clear liquid diet for two weeks!
  15. Actually, your BMI is not really high. My BMI is 35 and that is considered on the low side for lapband surgery. You may have trouble finding a surgeon who will perform the surgery on you with such a low BMI.
  16. You've brought up several issues and only you can determine what the true underlying cause is of your hesitation. However, regarding Protein, there are ways to handle that situation. My first suggestion would be to go to a store that sells protein supplements and ask to taste a sample. I know my GNC store will do that. Also, many sites that sell protein, such as
  17. Well, that didn't take long, huh? This is a great thread! I love being able to follow your progress as mine mirrors yours. It looks like there are a couple of us getting banded this week. I can't wait to hear from y'all and to report back myself! Good luck!
  18. Welcome and congratulations on getting a date! Let's all promise to keep and share our experiences!
  19. I thought this thread was just for October people! Now I'm going to go back and read from the beginning! Anyway, I am ALMOST an October person. I'm getting banded November 1. So thanks to Wishes4444, I've found some contemporaries to share with! Howdy! :clap2:
  20. Wishes4444, Congratulations on the weight loss so far! How great to get a head start! I already have a heating pad and icepack but thanks for reminding me so that I can get them out and ready. I hadn't heard that about stopping the Vitamins. The gal from the hospital did say that I need to tell them about all of my vitamins and supplements when I go in tomorrow and there may be some things I need to stop. Guess I'll find out then. I'm not taking any blood thinners or anything like that -- just a Multivitamin, calcium, Iron, B12, Fiber, and glucosamine. I hope this is an active group! I think it's great sharing with those who are going through this at the same time!
  21. I feel the same way as you do about being conservative about the fills and my doctor also has that view. I realize this can all take longer but I don't care. I'd rather be comfortable and adjust to each fill than go through some of the symptoms of overfilling that I've read about. Thanks for sharing your positive experience! I hope it continues that way!
  22. Yes, I teach math so I don't know too many of the English faculty. I read about the Protein bullets here but I understand they are not 100 percent whey protein isolate, which is supposed to be the best protein. I believe they also contain collagen protein. I forgot that I also got some liquid Tylenol and Gas-X strips. And I checked to make sure I have some Lactaid because I have been lactose-intolerant before using whey protein and my nutritionist said it can be worse after the band. I'll know more about further preparations to be made after I visit the hospital tomorrow and the surgeon on Tuesday. I graduated from Klein High School and most of my family is still in the Spring area. But I've been in Austin for 34 years since I came here to go to UT. My husband graduated from Crockett High School.

  24. Welcome, Rhea! I'm also having surgery on November 1! My doctor has me doing a two-week pre-op low-carb diet for the same reasons as your doctor mentioned. However, since my BMI is relatively low (35) he said he wasn't really worried about my liver. I've been following it pretty well but I'm not too worried about it either, I guess. I've ordered Protein powder (Unjury) and stocked up on broth, sugar-free Jello, etc. I also have chewable Vitamins. I'm getting a little ahead on my lesson plans, etc. for school and I have notified my students that classes are cancelled on Thursday and Monday. Yesterday I sent out an email to my closest family letting them know what I'm doing and what it is and what to expect. I've also been to the nutritionist, psychologist, and my GP for labs. Tomorrow I go to the hospital for pre-op paperwork and Tuesday I go to my surgeon for my pre-op exam. It's been a hectic two weeks since my initial consultation! Let's keep in touch on the board as we go through this! Good luck!
  25. Thanks! I hadn't even thought about the tube until I read this thread. That's one less thing to get anxious about.
