Thanks everyone!! @@Amy373 I ended up staying only one night (as planned). Wasn't until the evening that I felt okay enough to go home. I was still feeling "iffy" but my boyfriend and best friend felt comfortable taking care of me so decided to head home. I've not had trouble swallowing but I take very small sips (okay except once, I took a big swig - but didn't swallow!!)
It's possible that I will never poop again... And 3 days ago I got nauseous and it hasn't totally gone away. I am taking something for it. Overall I am doing great. There's definitely little set backs here and there but I am very determined to make this work and make it stick. Unfortunately I am already having serious food cravings. Their not an issue tight now as I am on liquids and there is NO WAY I am going to mess this up. As soon as I am a little further along I am going to explore getting a therapist and dealing with food addiction. Hang in there everyone. We are awesome!!!

I wanted to give an update. My surgery was march 24th I smoked up until my surgery (I have a medical marijuana card) and I was cleared by my surgeon to begin smoking 3 days post op and have since. No problems, I just avoid coughing for discomfort. And I do not get the munchies now yay!

lol, this is the first thing that has made me laugh all week. I smoke pot in Florida and it is ILLEGAL in Florida. Big flippidity deal. I'm 55, I have fibromyalgia and diabetic neuropathy. Would the powers that be rather I was taking oxycontin? If someone wants to come arrest this grandmother for smoking a little herb to help with her pain, then by all means bring it on. And then when you're done, I'll do my own investigating and dig out all the skeletons in your closet. I had my sleeve 5 days ago. I haven't smoked weed since December. I stopped smoking cigars in November but have probably smoked 15 since then. I smoked a cigar one week before my surgery. I'll try and wait 2 weeks before I smoke a cigar (and yes, I told my doctor all this info) and I'll smoke pot the next time I have a bad fibro flareup. Frankly, I'm not a big believer in telling my doctor everything. He's not my shrink. I'm an RN and I know what the doctor needs to know. If you're having problems, he needs to know what you're doing so he can evaluate it and decide if it's the cause. If you're not losing weight, then tell your doctor what you're eating and let him figure out what you need to change. Contrary to popular opinion, doctors are not the morality police and neither are members on a forum. I don't know anything about you and it would be completely inappropriate for me to tell you what to do or not to do. Likewise, you don't know me and are not in a position to tell me what I need to do or need to not do. All I can do is share my experience. I enjoy smoking and I don't really care what others think about it. I'm sure there are plenty of you who do things that I think are ridiculous but big frigging deal! We're here to support each other with our weight loss not judge each other on the other areas of our life.
I will end this by saying I just got home from the hospital today and am rather irritable. My stomach is doing the spasm dance, which it has been doing all week. If I stepped on your toes, I apologize. I was aiming for the ground next to your toes.

To the "newbies" who are reading this post...don't stop posting your questions/problems/fears/etc.
It will do a couple of things...
Someone will respond in kind - there are lots and lots of folks out there that will help (there will also be people that respond that have no idea what they are talking about - take the good with the bad)
It will give Revs another opportunity to post something in the rants section.
    Have a great Sunday everyone!

If no one ever started a new topic this website would get slow and no one would discuss anything. People would mass exodus to a new website that people enjoyed discussing all topics no matter if they've been asked a million times or for the first time ever (which is unlikely at this point).
I've been around a very long time and I've seen it all. I still come here happy to help, so I'm not one of the folks you speak about that are tired of it. If I get a little burned out I just excuse myself for awhile until I'm ready to come back. Not a big deal really...

Protein Shakes are on the full liquid diet. Check with your doctor, but having Protein Powder mixed with some skim milk or juice may help.

Every person is different. I have rejuvenated by this surgery and never felt tired. I got out of my recliner 2 days after surgery and have not slowed down. I started shopping and having more lunches with friends. Hopefully sunny weather will life your spirits and make you feel better. Winter dries our skin out. At 5 months out my hair began coming out. I am hoping that stops soon. I was told at 3 months out I was eating too much Protein. We all have to find the right balance. My husband and I were told to eat healthy, do not eat 3 meals a day, eat only when hungry. It has worked for us.

I only told my partner and one other friend who is also considering surgery. Unfortunately I think there is still a lot of stigma attached to WLS. So I chose to keep it to myself.

Done and done - surgery went well and I'm back home. Moderate pain, breathing hurts when it's a deep breathe. Walking helps. Not having my two dogs jumping all over me is a plus!

    Good day to everyone!
In two and a half years of being on this amazing site (thank you @@Alex Brecher), this is my first post in Rants and Raves. And it really isn't a rant or a rave. It's more of a request. I recently read a post that essentially said "Tell me your WLS story from pre-op to goal weight." Really?
There are so many knowledgeable and caring folks on this site. We are so anxious to help others who are facing many of the same challenges we have faced. We want to share our experiences and offer suggestions and support and encouragement. We really do! And we really have a lot to offer. But we can't do that unless you do your part. So here are a few ideas to help us help you.
Avoid impossibly broad questions (like the example above). Most of us don't have to the time to type it. And you probably don't have the time to read it. Ask any question you want - but be as specific as possible. What have you tried to solve the problem or concern? What was the result? Have you discussed it with your doctor/nutritionist/physician's assistant? If yes, what was their response or suggestion? You gain nothing from well-meaning suggestions that you've already tried and that failed to address the concern. Please, at the very least, complete the surgery type in your profile. Members of the forum can see that information whenever you post. The answers to some questions are surgery specific. Knowing the surgery you had or are planning to have allows other members to judge if they have the experience needed to answer your question in the context of the surgery you've had or are planning. If you're post-op, completing surgery date, starting weight and current weight in your profile is invaluable. I recently read a thread where the member was very frustrated with his/her results. Another member noted in their response that his/her weight loss to date was truly excellent. There simply was no cause for concern! Post your questions or ideas to the correct forum. One of the great strengths of Bariatric Pal is the availability of forums for virtually every aspect of the WLS journey. It only takes a minute or two to select the best option. You'll be rewarded with more responses and responses that are more focused on your specific question. Always acknowledge responses to your question. In many cases a simple "Thanks so much!" is fine. Failure to acknowledge other's attempts to help you succeed is inexcusable. Familiarize yourself with the Search function on the forum and use it. We get it - every single one of us was new to WLS at some point. But many questions have been answered dozens, if not hundreds of times. A quick search for one or two keywords will return a virtual library of responses on many, many topics. You'll get tons of answers from many different perspectives. You'll be amazed at how much and how quickly you can learn from the experience of other members. If you don't find the answer to your question, type away! You guys have a great day and always remember - you're gonna love the new you!!

Well thankfully I am out of my funk! Today marks 2 months since surgery and I have lost 36 pounds including my pre-op diet so I really cannot complain. I know it would have taken me a lot longer than 2 months to lose this much weight and I continue to lose. Thanks for your encouraging words and support while I had my pity party!

I've always said, you will never be able to change anyone else. All you can do is change how you react to them. Sometimes you do have to stand up for yourself, no one deserves to be treated like they are lesser than. I've had to fight for myself many times when someone who was supposed to care for me would say awful things to me and try to break me down. I learned to fight back though, and even though the taunting never really stopped, at least that person knew that I never backed down, and I would never be what they claimed I was. That was the best feeling.
I have forgiven that person, because even though when I was going through it, it was hurtful, but the end result this person helped to shape an incredibly strong woman who will never back down and never give up.
Not only that it has taught me to step away when necessary too. It's ok to let others drown in their own sesspool, because it's usually their own tears they're choking on.
    Best wishes to you all.
