  1. Hi ladies, Sorry I"m not a self pay, but the insurance makes you jump thru hoops. I had to do a 6 month supervised diet before they would approve. Luckily for me they approved on the first request. Some people are not that lucky and have to wait a lot longer than 6 months. How is your pre-op diet going? I've lost another 3.5 pounds. The weight just seems to be coming off easily, to bad it never stayed off. I thought I would really be hungry but I'm not. Kinda weird. I guess it sounded worse than it is. Have a great day!
  2. 1) To get off blood pressure medicine. 2) Play with my grandchildren and not get winded and tired. 3) To purchase a normal size bracelet. 4) Not be embarressed to walk into a room and have to crawl over people to get into a seat. 5) Of course, a nicer wardrobe of clothes.
  3. I think that if we didn't have some of these thoughts, we would not be human. It seems unreal to be able to eat only 1/2 cup of food and be satisfied. But it can be done as we all have seen from reading the posts of the band veterans. They have done it and so can we! We have made a committment to ourselves to get healthy, get off medications and not live in the fear that we will have a heart attack,or a stroke, get diabetes or any other illness that is out there that the odds increase with being morbidly obese. Sometimes I too think "what the hell am I doing?" but I know that I can do this and we are in this together. I too have thought about all those get togethers with all that food....but I also think, what if I were not here to enjoy those get togethers with my family? Who cares about the food, it's my family that I'm doing this for. I have 4 adorable grandchildren and another one on the way and I WANT to be here to see them grow up. I want to enjoy them in the same way I've enjoyed my children. If we can keep coming here to support each other, we will all be able to do this for us! Let's keep together, share our fears, share our success, whatever helps to get each other over the rough times.
  4. I totally agree! If God brings you to it, He will bring you thru it!

  6. Hi April 8th Avengers! If you have a two week pro-op diet to start, today is the day! I was not totally prepared for it and it caught me off guard. First day hasn't been to bad so far. I need to go shopping. Yesterday was my education class, it lasted three hours and was very informative. I can't believe how quickly the time has flown and the 8th is almost here. Lets keep in touch so we can support each other.
  7. Pre-op diet:(2 weeks) I've started mine today! Meal 1: Atkins Advantage premade Protein Shake Meal 2: Atkins Advantage premade Protein Shake Meal 3: 4 oz. protein and 1/2 cup non starchy vegetables Also: 2 servings of SF jello, SF popsicles, beef/chicken broth And 64 oz. of liquid

  9. Congratulations and Happy Birthday!
  10. Hi Dan! BCBS of Il has approved me for surgery. My journey started with going to a seminar and learning the requirements for WLS. I then made an appointment with the surgeon. They sent my info to the insurance company and the ins. co. sent me a letter letting me know what the requirements for surgery were. I had to have 5 years of medical records showing my weight, I needed to do a 6 month supervised diet, could not miss 1 appointment or I would have to start over. BMI of 35 with 2 co-morbitities or BMI over40. I also had to get a phys. evaluation, visit a cardioliogist and a pulmonologist. Every insurance policy is different. You could also call your insurance company and they can tell you if WLS is covered and the requirements. Continue reading these threads and learn as much as possible before you make your decision. Good luck with your journey and keep in touch.

  15. I too had to have to do a 6 month supervised diet. March 3rd will be my 6th weigh-in and my paperwork will be sent in for approval. Do not miss any of the 6 appointments or you will have to start over. The bariatric doctor wanted us to lose 20 pounds during this time. I have lost 22 and am happy that I have. They use the BMI from the 1st visit. Good luck with your journey!
  16. I've got two. The first one I got was a gift from my daughter when I turned 45. A butterfly on my left shoulder . The second one I got was last July. I was 51 then. I have a sun, moon and 5 stars on my right ankle. I can't wait for the next one!
  17. I have a Tanita scale and the paperwork that came with it says... Female 45-60%........Male 50-65%.......Hope this helps.

Today was weigh-in #5. Lost another 3 pounds. Much slower weight loss since I'm not walking on a daily basis. I can't wait for the weather to clear up just a bit. The Dr's office will mail my packet after my next weigh-in on March 3rd. I really thought that 6 months would take sooo long, but the time has flown by quickly. Total pre-op loss is now 22 pounds. Yeah!!! Doing the happy dance!!!!!!!:Dancing_biggrin: These smilies actually look like they are exercising!

  21. Welcome to LBT! I'm still pre-op and have learned many things from this site. Tomorrow I have another weigh-in for my 6 month supervised diet requirement. This is weigh-in #5. I can't believe how quickly the time has flown. I thought 6 months would seem like forever. Keep in touch and Good Luck!
  22. On the right hand corner at the top of this page is a box with a green heading that says" Members Area" New posts is the second line. Hope that helps. I too was confused when I came online today.
  23. Welcome Chelle! I'm not yet banded either, but have learned sooo much from coming here. Hopefully when I get insurance approval I will have learned even more to keep me on track. Good luck on your journey and keep us posted.
  24. Thanks for your info....BCBS called me last night to follow up on the paperwork they sent out. I told her I hadn't read it yet, but would be in touch after I read the material. My biggest concern is that if I choose not to work with this nurse and the "lifemasters" program that I would not be approved for surgery. The paperwork came addressed to me and the insurance is actually in my husbands name. Later....
  25. I guess no one else received this info in the mail...
