Anselee got a reaction from Bandista in Feeling my Feelings...and nothing I can do about it.
I had my surgery on 4/28/14 and have too found myself more emotional. It does have an effect on your hormones 85% when of your stomach is removed... all bodies will need time to adjust to that. I must say I am looking my first post surgery session with my therapist this week.
It will be very important for myself to keep in regular sessions with my therapist so I am not likely to abuse food likely in the past. food is not a friend or confidant, I go to support group meetings at the hospital where I had my surgery done for support before and after surgery.
I had my surgery on a Monday afternoon was discharged on Wednesday and was driven to a support group on Thursday. I am not suggesting you follow my lead on this (I have a very high pain tolerance and used very little narcotics in the hospital).
If you are struggling with your food issues and can not afford therapy use your hospital weekly support groups. If your hospital does not have them do some research and find a local hospital that does.

Okay so Yesterday I found out that did not get the job I wanted/needed, not only that my contact lenses have been discontinued and a few other upsetting things . In the past food would have been my go to deal with being upset but yesterday I called a friend and went on a beautiful 1.5 mile walk by the Water instead. I know my surgery was on 4/28/2014 but I have to say I love "Diva the sleeve" and how I am using my tools to change my life!

This is normal. Your sleeve heals, swelling decreases , and it relaxes, and volume capacity can increase. This is where the rubber meets the road. This is where WE have to do the work. Just because you can, does not mean you should eat more. Your sleeve will still offer restriction, but the right choices are important.
Stick to the volume limits and calorie restrictions your surgeon gave you. It requires diligence and mindful eating. The surgery is not going to do it for us. It comes down to the choices we make. Another thing to remember is that for most people weight doesn't just come off in a linear, steady fashion, especially after the first few months. It comes off a few pounds at a time, then you might plateau a while, then more will come off. The important thing is to follow your plan every day, all day. It's what we do for the long haul that makes the difference.

It seems that that scale always seems to lurk over our heads if we let it. It reminds me of the little black rain cloud that always followed Winnie the Pooh from my childhood books. Before I started on this journey I would have never though about stepping on the scale daily. (you would have had to drag me kicking and screaming just to get on it in the first place).
Every program and every doctor and ever NUT advise is different. I can share mine if it helps. We are told to try to eat 6 times a day and drink at least 32 ounce of Water. I had my surgery on 4/28/14 and I am on blended food at the moment. We are told to try 1-2 two oz make two of our six meals Protein shakes to assist with healing. I hope this helps.
Try to be kind to your self my program only had us on a strict diet 1 week before surgery not 30 but we all needed to loose weight and change habits prior to approval.

I can't believe it but I made TWO major milestones this morning!
I've lost 100 pounds in 4.75 months (add 2 weeks of pre-op diet to be fair) AND I'n in Onederland!
This has been the most amazing journey for me. I couldn't be any happier AND it's not even over yet!
My only regret was waiting so long and doubting myself.

Anselee reacted to MichiganChic in Do you feel weird telling people exactly how many pounds you've lost?
Depends on who it is. My close family knows, but I didn't tell many people I had surgery, and I don't tell them I've lost 140 pounds. They will certainly do the math. I didn't want them to know how much I weighed, and still don't. But it's OK for all my close friends on this site know, lol

Comfy Blue, I get sooo uncomfortable when people ask " how many lbs have you lost?" My stats are are almost identical to yours ( size 20-22 down to szv10, 73 lbs lost. ) In the beginning , it was nice when people noticed I had lost some weight. Somewhere after 50 lbs , the " how much" question started to make me quite squeamish. Part of it has to do with me facing the reality of how far I had let myself go. I am going to admit it, I look at my 'before' pictures and I am still so disappointed and yes ashamed, of myself . Last weekend , I saw people I generally see 1-2 times a year. I was cornered by 6 women who wanted to know my " secret" to successful weight loss. 2 of them knew the truth from my husband ( the chatterbox!) so being coy or vague was out of the question. I answered that I had worked with a surgeon. But that wasn't enough for this crew- they wanted to know how much ? I did not want to answer , so I said "a bit" . They kept at it and when I evaded the question , they started to GUESS !! Can you believe the nerve of these people? The consensus was I had lost 110 lbs already ( nope - 70 , but still not going to tell them) . My weight was none of their business before or after my sleeve. This ruined my night . I am quite open that I had WLS , but my husband , sisters, mother or closest friends never, ever ask " how many lbs? " what makes casually acquaintances think they can? That's ignorance on their part fueled by shame/ embarrassment on my part. I am thrilled with my physical results so far , but I have to work on myself. I have to make peace with my past so I can fully enjoy my future. Until then, this question will cause me to squirm , and will be perceived as an invasion of my privacy.
I am so grateful for this forum. People here understand each other's struggles and honesty .
