Recovery Stories :)
I am feeling pretty good today. The port incision isn't hurting much at all but I am still having a lot of gas pains in my chest. I made a protein smoothie this morning with light vanilla soy milk, chocolate protein powder and half a banana. It was really good for a change! I have also started having sugar free fudge bars and tonight I am going to try some sf applesauce and pudding. I hear a lot of you saying that you are hungry but I am not feeling that at all. I am actually forcing myself to drink all my fluids. Not to say that when a pizza or burger commerical comes on my mouth doesn't water lol. Anyway, glad to hear everyone is feeling pretty good. I am back to work tomorrow so I guess I will see how that goes.

I am going back to work Tuesday as well. I don't think I will have any problems at all. Glad to hear that everyone is doing pretty good! Linda - Yesterday was my worst day. I was in a lot of pain by my port incision and had a lot of gas. Today when I woke up I was a little sore but started moving around and I've felt great all day. I haven't had any pain medication since last night! I hope your pain is better soon!

Is this normal?
Mindy - I am feeling great today! I had a few gas pains this morning but I have been moving around a lot today and am feeling really good! I cooked and cleaned the house today. I wasn't even craving the food that I was cooking for my husband and daughter. I honestly feel a lot better than I expected!

November Surgery Dates
Longhorn - I am already on creamy soups. Tomorrow I will begin to introduce pudding and protein smothies. By the end of next week I will be on full mushies. Pretty much anything I can put in a food processor and mash up will be good for me to try. So far so good today. I had creamy butternut squash soup, one of those yougart smoothies and of course other liquids. I would say that I am feeling about 85% today.

Longhorn - I had my hubby rub my back and it did seem to bring up some gas. I am feeling much better today than yesterday. That sharp pain I was having on the left side is gone. Now I am just feeling pressure in my chest which I know is gas. I've been moving around cleaning my house all morning so I am hoping it goes away soon.

November Surgery Dates
I've had several people say "you should wait until after the holidays" My response to them was, no I will be losing weight when everone else is gaining. I really don't think it's goign to affect me at all. I will be able to eat a small portion of a couple things and then I will be done. I think I will actually feel better not being stuffed and miserable!

Help: Swelling & Bruising
Is it your port incision? I don't have any swelling or brusing but it is the most tender spot. I have been having some pretty sharp pains. Not sure why you would be swelling. I would call your doctor and see if that is normal.

Is this normal?
Thanks! They seem to hurt the most when I take a deep breath or walk around. I am going to take some pain medicine before bed, sleep tonight and see how I feel in the morning. If I am still having the sharp pains tomorrow I will call.

I am so glad to hear everything went well for you. I'm feeling a little worse today then yesterday but still no terrible pain. Just some sharp pains around the port site. Take care and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Is this normal?
Has anyone else had this? It's not going away. They are very sharp pains all on the left side. I guess I am just trying to figure out if it is gas or just from the port. I've been walking all day today, have taken a bunch of the Gas-X strips and have been talking my pain medication. Nothing is taking care of it. When I am sitting on the sofa with my heating pad is the only time it doesn't hurt!

I'm done...I made it
I am so glad to hear everything went well Patty. I was feeling really good yesterday but today has been a little worse for me. I'm having pretty sharp pains in my left side. Keep drinking those liquids and walking much as possible. We will be feeling better in no time!

No one in Nov?
Longhorn - I'm taking the Gas X strips as well. I've been walking a lot because this pain is pretty bad. If I take a deep breath it feels like shooting pains in my left side. I called the doctor and the nurse said all is normal. I am taking 2tbs of vicoden every 4-6 hours.

Longhorn - Has you pain worse today? I wasn't feeling that bad today and I took a nap from 12-2. When I woke up the pain is pretty bad. It's all around the port area. Do you think it could be soreness and gas mixed? Also, do you think the heating pad will help with this pain? I have been walking walking walking, sipping sipping sipping and breathing breathing breathing like me doctor said.

Dianne - I haven't been hungry at all. I am mostly thristy. My mouth and throat have been really dry. Make sure you get some sugarfree popcicles because they help the sore throat. I was given abut 10 1oz medicine cups at the hospital and told to drink 4-6 cups every hour. I have surgar free jello, popcicles, chicken broth, special k portein water and of course crushed ice is really good. I also have one of those breathing things and have to take 10 deep breath on it every 2 hours. This causes me to cough which hurts a little but if you hold a pillow on your tummy while coughing it seems to help some.

No one in Nov?
Today I am feeling pretty good! I woke up this morning in some pain and took my pain medicine. I then started drinking my fluids. I am having some sharp pains in my lower left side (i've been told it's gas). I've been walking a lot and hoping the Gas X works. I took my gauze off earlier and took a shower. Three of my Five insicions are bleeding so I have to change the gauze on them 2 times a day. I am very surprised at how well I am feeling. My husband has been taking great care of me!

Is this normal?

I was banded yesterday and this morning I woke up feeling sore but other than that pretty good. About 10 minutes ago I've begun to get a really sharp pain on my left lower stomach. it's way below where my port insicsion but when I am up and walking around it hurts really bad. It almost feels like someone is pinching me from the inside. Is this normal? I know the port side tends to be more sore but this pain isn't near the port.

I've Joined the Bandwagon!!!
Victoria - Congrats to you. I have the breathing machine. Forgot what it is called? I have to take 10 deep breaths every two hours with it. That usually makes me cough and I do feel a lot of pain. I was told to grap a pillow and hug it when I am coughing. It does seem to help!

Andie - I had the patch behind my ear. Before I went into surgery I told the nurse that I had a problem with nausea. They gave me some nausea medicine, put the patch behind my ear and gave me some zantac. Good luck to you !!!
