April 2014 pre-op group
Congrats! Hate to tell you this, but that gas probably will exit the other end..lol You might feel worse, for a couple of days, peaking at about 72 hrs, but then you'll start feeling a little better each day.

Muscle aches?
It could be the pain meds making you itch, known by drug addicts as the "opiate itches". I've been itchy too. Mostly on my shoulders.

Pre-op diet blues
You'll feel like that for a while, but be sure to sip fluids so you don't dehydrate.

Fullness guilt
I get the sneeze and hiccup and it HURTS because I'm still healing. Funny though, I only get it when I'm full of fluids- not ever with food.

Pre-op liquid diet woes
Up until the last 3 days pre-op, I had one protein/veggie meal per day. I cant imagine 2 weeks of liquids.... its hard enough POST op.. but probably impossible pre op

Pre-op diet in the mail?
Could this be the folks who are going to Mexico or some other far-away place for surgery? So they get their pre-op instructions by mail?

almost dumb question- PUREED foods- HELP ME!
I think the idea behind the pureed phase is to get us used to the consistency to which we should be chewing food. I started pureed today... I had scrambled eggs and refried beans with melted cheese. No problem. Of course, these are all very small amounts eaten very slowly... chew chew chew.

Pre-op diet blues
Yay! I thought the pre-op diet was the hardest thing ever and honestly, too extreme.

PSYCH EVAL?!
I too saw a therapist and psychiatrist for years... but I opted to see the surgeons in-house psychiatrist. I didn't bother to tell anyone about my past treatment (its not like they can look it up) Lo-and-behold I "passed" and had surgery 2 weeks ago. Really all they need to know is that you have realistic expectations and will be compliant with your new diet.

I want to know what you think..
I did the survey. Not very easy to do on mobile because the screen gets cut off.

Sweets
Sugar alcohol can act like a laxative... so do this in moderation. :-)

Are the protein shakes causing anyone else head axhes?
I'm 2 weeks post op and I've had a headache almost daily since a week before surgery. I figured it was just hunger... now I'm rethinking that...

Low Sodium/Fat Free Broth Is Gross!
As a post op, I've discovered I love egg drop soup. I just boil chicken broth, add some soy sauce and garlic salt and drizzle a well scrambled raw egg into the pot. Its wonderful... And still liquid

Did something dumb
Just an update, it took about an hour of sipping hot tea, but everything is clear :-). Really scared myself there..

Protein powders

Low Sodium/Fat Free Broth Is Gross!
My nut says hot sauce is fine- any non fibrous seasoning is fine :-) I use regular sodium broth... I cant stand the low sodium.

Tips from success stories
I would say I want to lose as much as possible in the first 6 months because thats when its "easy" to lose. After that, your hormones change, pouch stretches, etc so its harder. Hopefully by then, I will have learned some great habits.

Protein powders
40g sugar?? Wont you just dump that? In my experience, GNC is overpriced. If you have another healthfood or nutritional store available, try that...
-
Protein powders
Like 1 gram sugar. 24g protein. 110 calories.
-
Protein powders
I vote for MRM Vanilla

Did something dumb
No but I have some nasty chewable tablets I can use for now. These things are taking forever to dissolve. I'll never do that again.

It's not working!
Totally normal! I think most of us stayed off the scale for a week post-op just because if this. Of course a nurse weighed me day-after surgery and I was 20 pounds heavier!! She said its normal. I had sausage fingers too... it was such a relief when that fluid gtfo'd. Of course, then you're in the bathroom all the time... lol

Tomorrow is it!
Congrats! Watch some TV (preferably something recorded so you can fast forward through food commercials), call someone, anything to pass the time and occupy your mind. You will do great tomorrow and then the work begins... try to relax, today.. :-)
