Bumpy Road but making progress
My Dr said BM's should be every 2-3 days. I've been having them even while on full liquids (surgery march 25).

Did something dumb
Today I'm two weeks post op so I started vitamins. Keep in mind, I've had nothing but liquids for 3 weeks... Anyway, I plunked a gummy vitamin and a viactive calcium chew in my mouth, chewed a couple of times and swallowed. DUMB DUMB DUMB I called my Dr and they advised me to drink hot lemon water and all should dissolve and pass through soon. This is so uncomfortable and I was panicky so I had a hard time breathing. Has anyone else done something dumb and lived to tell about it??

Packing for surgery... hints anyone?
I agree. The main thing to pack are loose fitting clothes for the trip home. I was at the hospital Tues-Fri, and I slept most of the time.. and walked. I should have packed soap and a washcloth, because nobody could find any when it was time for me to take a shower. lol

Does Cancer count as Comorbid condition for.insurance approval ?
I think premature death was on most of our lists... Without surgery. Its one of the reasons we had surgery...

Not bashing. Just wondering.

Tips from success stories
I always wondered if the ppl who have surgery in Mexico have followups...or who they ask, if they have post op questions. Heaven forbid there's any problems.

Does Cancer count as Comorbid condition for.insurance approval ?
Years ago, I looked into wls when I was BMI 35.Couldn't get approved. Not even close. 15 years later, BMI of 40 and other problems, I was approved. Insurance could have saved a lot of $ on meds and other surgeries if they'd let me do this in 2000.

Nervous
I wish... I didn't read anything here until I was already home from the hospital. I didn't want to join any groups and get my hopes up...i dealt only with my Dr office. Now I love the support groups.

4 Days Out So Much Pain & Other Stuff
Try taking pain meds with a protien shake or blended/strained soup. Pain meds made me nauseated too. Also, does your doctor have you on an anti-heartburn med? Mine put me on omeprazole but I got it switched to protonix.. It coats the stomach pouch better and helped a LOT with the nausea.

Tips from success stories
No doubt. I'd be ashamed if I didn't follow my Drs instructions and something went wrong. I can just see it now... "Did you take the Vitamins we gave you?" .... 'no I chewed some flinstones'.. How embarrassing would that be???

Nervous
I didnt know my surgery date until 5 days before... Until then, I had really been half-assing the pre-op diet. Then of course, I had to have my last hamburger (which of course wasn't really the last.. but I panicked lol). My surgery was on a tuesday and I didn't really get "with it" until Sunday.. I was afraid I was going to get cancelled but I hadn't gained any weight since my pre-op appointment. It was a non issue

Post op medications (crushed meds)
My Dr said if its smaller than a dime you can take it whole. I cut most of mine though because I feel like they'll just slide through me.

Nervous
I was scared because I had cheated some on the pre-op diet.. but it didn't matter. I had done the last 24 hours perfectly so there was no problem!

I've lost 27 pounds since starting the preop diet. (HW 250 )12 of those pounds since surgery, so about a pound per day post op. i'm sure you'll do great!!

silastic ring
I was offered the ring but declined as it was an additional cost, and I would obsess about it. I have a thing about foreign objects in my body, which is why I originally didn't get lapband. Glad now I got bypass. We all have to do what we can live with.

Pre-op Preparation
Me too! I wonder why some have to get the colonoscopy?

You will be FINE. The hardest part is when you are waiting. You'll sleep through the whole thing and when you wake up, you'll get the "good stuff" so you'll spend the next couple of days feeling good! Just know that you'll have gas/air to deal with, but that passes. I've had many types of surgery and it's always the best sleep ever!

Vitamins etc
I guess if you never heard it...
-
Vitamins etc
Its Iron and Calcium, not vitamins and calcium. Straight off my surgeons vitamin instructions. Of course, you don't have to take my word for it. Do what you want.
-
Vitamins etc
Be sure to take calcium and Iron 3 hours apart. If you take them together, they compete for absorption and you wont get either one

Tips from success stories
Seems like we should be free to post what we think in this forum- and we are equally free to ignore what others post. I'm pretty sure we all have doctors we paid, and we all should follow their advice.... so why have the forum at all? Variety. I say live and let live.
