That's totally crazy! I was somewhat in the same boat, still am. I believe that at 600 calories a day, our bodies go into starvation mode, and hold on to the fat
I'm post op one month, and taking in 600/800 cals a day, and was up a half pound today, I feel your pain. But inevitably it will come off.

You're getting in your own head too much, my friend. This a critical point, and you have to keep calm or you'll derail, so listen up:
    No, you're not done yet.
    It's all good.
    Trust the process.
Look at how far you've come.
    Smile in the mirror.
Put on your favorite song and dance.
    Breathe
    …and let it all go.
And for heaven's sake Celebrate the new life you're creating, because at the end of the day, that's what it's all about.

I'm 3 months post-op and I still cannot eat Pasta or bread. I only eat 2-3 oz at each meal still. I think you will be surprised at how full you get how quickly.
I do eat Busch's baked Beans but in a very small amount - maybe a tablespoon. While it is good in Protein it is very high in sugar so I limit that. I'll have cottage cheese with the Beans along with lean hamburger or chicken.
Remember once you are ready for solid foods (6 weeks for me) Protein first, veggies second, carbs third.
I can eat Peanut Butter, but I put it on saltines, not bread. and I've been transitioning to PB2 which has far less fat and calories. My NUT recommenced staying away from low fat pnut better as well - it is very high in sugar.
I don't think you'll be able to eat the mac/cheese and spaghetti for at least 4-6 months.
Everyone is different, but if there is one thing everyone on here would probably agree with is don't push it. Don't push your stomach to more than it can handle. Try something new each week. For the past 4 weeks I've been trying to eat a piece of cucumber, and each week my stomach says "not yet".
Your eating habits will change significantly -- which is what we all wanted.
    Best advice someone gave me:
    Be patient
    Hide your scale
    Don't compare yourself to others
Ride this ride for all it's worth
    YOU ARE WORTH IT

I was sleeved May 5th and was "glued" back together..... 6 small incisions. My instructions were...no baths, no soaking in Water. Shower with the water on my back. I could wash my chest and let the water flow from my shoulders. Pat my stomach area dry. No rubbing or scrubbing...No picking at the glue. 3 weeks and 4 days later, my incisions had dried up, scabs had come off...no open areas at all and I was allowed to go back to my water aerobics class. I hope this has helped.

At the risk of sounding a bit brash...f**k your "friend". She sounds as if she's dealing with her own "fat acceptance" issues. You don't need those kind of people in your life. She's selfish. She created a whole blog post about YOUR surgery and made it about HER feelings. She doesn't care about you. She was never a friend. Cut that dead weight loose now. You'll feel much lighter when you do.

Just stumbled across Fiber Choice chewable orange & pomegranate/berry at Dollar Tree of all places! I don't know if they are at other Dollar Tree stores, but I will be looking tomorrow. The expiration date is 2015. It's the regular-size bottle of 90 tablets (3 g fiber per 2 tablets), and the label says take up to 3 times per day. So it's a 1 1/2 month supply for $1! These are $12 at the drugstore. I doubt they will be around for long. I found Premier shakes at DT 5 months ago and they were gone in a week.
While you're there, check out the bags of frozen Idaho blueberries - 12 oz. for $1. These are great in smoothies. I've been buying them for at least six months. This was my favorite DT bargain before today, but the Fiber Choice wins this week for certain!

my2chinagirls reacted to ziggypbang in 85% convinced. How do I get to 100%?
    Tootles,
I hope you can come to peace with your decision, one way or another. I have been SO pleased with mine so far. I will say that I applaud your doctor for beginning this conversation with you. Some docs have been reluctant in the past, but with the publication of a new study in March about the long-term success rates in diabetes control with surgical intervention, I think more docs will begin to come around. I don't know if your doc referenced the new study, but it was published in the New England Journal of Medicine on March 31. Basically, your chance of getting an a1c at 6.0 or below increases by 750% with gastric bypass, and nearly 500% with a gastric sleeve. This means you have a dramatically improved chance of living a normal-length life and not having heart issues, diabetic complications or even cancers at a young age.
In response to your specific concerns:
".I fear that I will be that person who has horrible, life-threatening complications." This is rare. I'm glad actually I didn't know about all the complications before I jumped in with both feet! But there is no guarantee, you're right. The vast, vast majority of people recover extremely well, and even those that don't are usually glad in the long-term they made the choice.
"I also fear that I won't be able to conquer the emotional attachments I have to food and will feel deprived and restricted eventually after the honeymoon stage wears off. (I'm also looking into ways to recognize and break down those emotional ties and triggers now.)" I am only 5 1/2 months out, so there is still some honeymooning going on, granted, but I've had this time to acknowledge that my body can survive very well on SO much less food than I used to stuff it with! This has been a growing experience mentally, psychologically and emotionally. I feel a lot more like the person I truly am, and less of a slave to every drive-thru I pass! I did enjoy a Starbucks with hubby today (Skinny Caramel Crunch Frapuccino- I indulged in the crunch but went sugar-free/fat free with the rest!) and it was gloriously filling! This was really a treat for me and I enjoyed it so much! I watched hubby eat a cheese danish and didn't even care. cheese danishes used to be my kryptonite! (among 8,000 other foods!) I do have food addiction issues yet. Those are not cured. But I am reading a book now called 50 Ways to Soothe Yourself Without Food. It's great for addicts like me. Not easy, but great. I am focusing on the emotional attachments and taking notes as I read! I still have head hunger, but I'm dealing. On Sunday I dealth with my head hunger with 2 bites of white chocolate bread pudding with caramel sauce and salted pecans. I lived through it! One day at a time!
"It even makes me a little sad to think that I won't if I wanted to be able to eat a huge meal on a holiday or a special occasion. The idea that the rest of my life will not be the same is both exhilarating AND frightening." Here's where I wouldn't worry at all! Your idea of what constitutes a 'huge' meal will change so dramatically after surgery. You will learn that if you want to eat some pumpkin pie or sweet potatoes or whatever, you have to leave room for it. You literally just need to plan ahead and not eat a bunch of turkey if you want to eat other things. It's just like packing a smaller suitcase so you can fit it in the overhead compartment of your flight. You just have to choose the stuff you REALLY want to take with you.
    Blessings on your decision!

Went to my one month appointment today and got cleared for soft food. First time I've eaten with the family in over a month.
We had salmon, mashed potatoes and strawberries. It was so nice to feel like a normal human being.
I told him at the appointment that I am feeling so lethargic. He said it's because some people just don't have energy on puréed foods. I can't stand puréed meat so I haven't had it in a long time. He said that now that I can eat more normal food I should get my energy back.
It feels so good to eat normal food. I don't think I even ate a full cup of food but it was great!

I am 10 weeks postop today and I am still struggling but it is managable. Make sure you are getting plenty of rest and your Protein and fluids. Your body is still in shock.

My husband and I take plenty of meds and this does not sound right. I take 1 Zanax a day. I would talk to the surgeon, the primary doctor, and the psychiatrist without telling them what the other said. You should be able to adapt your body to the meds or you will know something isn't right. You can probably figure this out yourself and do what is right for you. Good luck!

my2chinagirls reacted to mattlap in Today is my 1 Year Surgiversary!
OK so I never posted, but for the past year I have read constantly. I'm 38 years old married with 2 small children and I topped out at 390lbs. I couldn't play with my kids without getting out of breath. My life revolved around food. ALL types of food and LOTS of it. Spent my life on diets. Tried everything, would lose a lot and then go right back up and then some. Everyone knows what that's like!
So I decided to take the plunge. The Dr was great. I came in thinking Lap Band, but he told me about the sleeve and I decided on it. BEST DECISION EVER! Surgery took an hour. No pain. Spent the next 2 weeks drinking ONE Protein shake a day and Water. I was starving only once and the Dr told me to take a spoonful of apple sauce. I thought he was joking.... but I was stuffed! Crazy! The next 2 weeks I was on mushy food (eggs, greek yogurt, fish). Then I started reg food. I eat like a mouse, still do. But it's ok because I'm full. I would eat half a grilled chicken breast and be stuffed!
Then I started working out. I started slowly. Walking on the treadmill, then jogging, then some light weights. I work out like a beast now. 6 days a week. I do T25 and I drink Shakeology for Breakfast. This has been a life changer. Shaun T kicks my ass every morning! I never would have been able to do it before the surgery.
My success was 100% mental. I knew the Dr was going to take 90% of my stomach out of my body and I wasn't going to screw it up. I wasn't going to cheat and drink mik shakes because I "needed" something sweet. I wasn't going to eat a cheeseburger and throw it up so I can eat another... I was going ALL IN. I don't drink soda, I do drink Dr Oz's green juice. I don't eat burgers, I do eat Salmon. I don't have milk shakes, I do have Weight Watchers ice cream bars. Greek Yogurt is tops but don't get it with fruit in it....all sugar. Buy fresh blueberries and mix them into plain
Now don't get me wrong, I'll have a couple of adult beverages, or some blue corn tortilla chips, or maybe some peanut m&ms, but it's not a regular thing.
The scale helped me and will help you guys too. When you see that weight melt off, and I do mean melt, you will want to keep eating healthy. I shop in the mall now! And not the one with Casual Male in it. I do to banana Republic!! It is AWESOME. I went from a size 48" waist to a 34". My suit size was 58 Long, Now 44 Long SLIM FIT Calvin Klein!!!!WHAT!!!!!! I was a 4xl shirt now I get these things from banana, XL Tailored Slim Fit!!!! Ridiculous.
You guys can do it. If I can get to where I'm at now, anyone can!

I am 5 months out - I get that feeling sometimes. It usually hits if I eat too much, but it doesn't hit me right away - I will start feeling it about 30 minutes after I've taken the last bites. It's uncomfortable, almost like there food is stuck.

I'm about 5 weeks out and I just want to know if the following is normal:
    - Difficult getting all of my fluids in (burping, foaming and lots of mucous)
    - food is VERY uncomfortable going down (spasms and it feels like it's going to come back up), but certain foods are ok
    - Light headedness and tired most of the time (I'm assuming it's because I'm borderline dehydrated)
    - I generally have no desire for food because it doesn't feel good, so there's no joy in eating for me anymore
I'm sad and had been having off and on feelings of regretting the surgery.

I want to stay with the lowest carb posible and good quality low fat Protein foods most of all.... I cannot have veggies for another week or so. I'm so looking forward to trying to eat real food. I'm thinking that I'm going to be eating a lot of chicken salad. I am interesed in finding a low carb and low fat mayo but i found a recipe using greek yoghurt that sounds even better cause there are no healthy mayos that I've found in the grocery stores.... here is my first offering
Ranch is so fattening!! Until now. This whole jar of ranch is only 1.75 grams of fat and 255 calories! 1 cup dannon oikos plain greek yogurt, 1 packet hidden valley ranch mix, 1/2 cup 1% milk. Whisk together, chill 1 hour before use. Perfect consistency and tastes better than bottled!!!
