kpay10 got a reaction from 1Day1Life4Now in Do u ever wonder how people here eat such a perfect diet - all the time?
Thanks to the wonderful program at Kaiser I have been told countless times that the surgery is a tool, not a fix. If I don't use the tool correctly, it will fail. I have been "near perfect" on my Pre Op diet since November and "perfect" on my liquid diet, leading to surgery in 10 days. I'm not having major surgery just to misuse the tool I've been given, therefore, I will do my best to live a near "perfect" post op life, as well.
Here's my analogy: I can use my tool to hammer a board to a wall ( a proper use for a hammer) and it will stay in place, or I can use my new tool to hammer Jello to a wall. It may stick and look pretty for awhile, but eventually it will slip.

I hear what you're saying but even if u choose to live differently, don't be a hater, just love ur choices and let others love theirs.
I guess we realize we all got this way by bad habits so it just doesn't make sense to not change with our New bodies so we can care for it better.
Those things u make sound so taboo are the perfect ingredients for a superior recovery and continued success with a new healthy body. If your overall goal is not health, just weight loss then you just don't have to work so hard. Lucky u and ur on ur way! But I've always wanted to be healthy and successful so I plan to follow at least the guildline rules as far as my personal goals are met.
Good luck and better days to you...

I, for one, am offended at the fact that you seem to be dissing those of us that are simply trying to stick to the plan we signed up for. Getting in all of our Water, Protein, exercise, etc is NOT a bad thing. Every single one of us got the sleeve in order to change our lives. I guess some of us just take it more seriously than others. Don't look down on the ones that are doing well and following through just because you can't or haven't been able to. This surgery is supposed to be a life changing event, not a... well I can still do everything I did before just in smaller doses event. I hope you figure that out before you ruin any success you've had so far.

I am doing alright, I am getting more and more nervous as the date approaches and I just realized that we only have a week and a half to go! I am most nervous about the anesthesia and the nausea after that I hear everyone has.
My surgeon only requires 24 hours of liquids so I don't have a liquid diet right now but I have a pre-op diet I have been following since February.
Yes let's please stay in touch! We are surgery sisters!

kpay10 got a reaction from BigGirlPanties in Feeling a Bit Overwhelned!
I had my Pre op appointment yesterday and il'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. All the info about risks and complications has me freaked out! I know they have to o over it all, but geez, talk about scary!! My two week liquid diet starts today. It consists of three Protein shakes per day. That's it!! Only Decaf tea, coffee, Crystal Light, or Water between meals. I did buy some sugar free popsicles and Jello because I know they are virtually calorie free and still considered liquid.
I'm not trying to complain, but as I said, just feeling overwhelmed. Words of comfort or advice through this phase are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well I'm a week out from the 8th and thankfully each day has got better.
First few days bad then badish but manageable nothing I couldn't handle, besides I was too tired to cry. Slept loads, in fact all day Tues and wed.
The hotel in Belgium was great but my room was above where the smokers went and in Europe cigs smell like cigars, awful.
Travelling on two flights by myself was okay though majorly sick between flites.
At home drinking tea as Water made the bile rise and drinking cuppa Soups, avoiding anything fruity as too acidic.
Lost weight but at this point don't care as still getting head round that I want to eat...
So my mantra is keep moving forward and one day at a time.

kpay10 got a reaction from Georgia in Gastric Bypass or Sleeve? Need feedback, please!
Update: I did some more research and spoke to my surgeon and he thinks the sleeve is a fine option for me. I'm so happy and relieved! I've been agonizing over this for weeks!
Tomorrow I get to call the surgery scheduler, get my EKG set up, and schedule my surgery!!! I'm so excited and READY to begin my journey!
Thank you all for your input!

I did the sleeve and have never been happier. I am looking at my 1 year anniversary and I am 135 lbs down. I think if you are really addicted to sugar the bypass is more for you. I didn't have this problem and was scared of the complications that you can get with bypass. My surgeon does both. I was type 2 also has gone! I was maxed out on all the oral meds I am on none now since January. I can eat anything I want but just a really small amount. I think you really have to look at your relationship with food and what kinds of foods get you in trouble. Good luck either way we are behind you and hope you love the new life you will be entering! Change is hard but it's soooooo worth it.
