Go back in phases. Do clear liquids for a couple days to stay hydrated. Then progress to full liquids, then puréed etc. you have to play around with thickness of liquid, temp, and texture. It takes a bit. I like thinner, colder liquids. Skim milk based drinks go down easier for me than a thick shake. I like Popsicles too and warm liquids go down good too. You have to be patient and look for options.

Try thinning it down. I use 10oz skim with 1 scoop Protein. I liked strawberry before surgery, now I don't. I use vanilla so I can add other flavors. It takes me 2 hrs sometimes more to get It down.

Thank you. I'm feeling so much better. You were right on with the spot of my pain and why. It's better each day. I'm back to work and getting my energy back.

Molly2180 reacted to indecision in How often do you weigh yourself?
No less than 2 times a day. Am I obsessed over it? Absolutely... It may be an excuse but I do this because I feel like it helps me keep myself in check. If I am not weighing daily then I must not care that I gain weight back.
The scale does not control me though. I just like to know where I am on the daily.

Full liquids are getting dull quickly. I enjoy my sugar free Popsicles. I finally made it to the required intake of 64oz, most days I've been under. Protein is difficult for me as well. I used to like the GNC strawberry whey and now not so much. But I used to add frozen fruit, spinach, and coconut oil. So that's probably the issue, it's bland right now. I added ice tonight and it was better. I may have to add coconut milk to the skim milk for flavor.
I enjoy the light vanilla yogurt, sugar free puddings, and broth. I've tried the thinned down creamed soups strained. I would rather just broth. Cream of what isn't bad.
It's funny how one little yogurt lasts 3 days
Total side note, all the constant ads and pictures of food on TV and the internet are really obnoxious and annoying. I don't generally watch tv so I've increased my exposure and of course my sensitivity to it has increased.

Hi Nickole75! Don't get discouraged! I know its hard in the very beginning to deal with your new stomach and I promise it does get much easier sooner than what you think. I too was hungry when I 1st started and I found out that taking my Pepsid helped half of that (stomach acid tricks you into thinking its hunger). The other half was me really getting hungry (my stomach would growl). After a few weeks I was able to eat soft foods and I could barely eat one scrambled egg. Trust me, enjoy this now as time goes fast and you really want to lose as much weight as your body allows in the early weeks and months. I'm almost 5 months out and I still have great restriction of course but I can eat more than 1 scrambled egg...that's for sure. Rest assured that you are right on target and you're going through the same thing we all went through. In a couple of months you will hardly remember the issues you "used" to have. Good luck on your journey and don't give up!

Congrats, I'm so happy for you. I'm excited at how quickly the weight is dropping. I might be under 200 before I get back to work! I haven't been under 200 in at least 14 years. I might cry!

Very good chance that what you're experiencing is head hunger. Most RnY patients have little or no appetite following surgery and it can last anywhere from weeks to months. Keep in mind too that the trauma from the surgery temporarily numbs the nerves in your pouch that function as stretch sensors. As a result your brain does not receive "full" signals from the pouch. The nerves heal relatively quickly and you'll be amazed at how little you can eat and be full. Hang in there and follow your doctors' recommendation as closely to the letter as you possibly can. The challenges you're facing right now will almost certainly pass before you know it.
You're gonna love the new you!!
