    Before and After Pics

This journey is about progress and having a new tool in your life to help succeed. The far left picture is from May 2013- a few months before I decided to make this WLS journey a reality. Second photo was from a few weeks pre op, third photo was one week post op (was down 10lbs -4.10.14 was surgery date) and the last picture was last week of Jan 2015, weighing -115 lbs less than last January! So happy and proud and yes every day is still a struggle but I'm happy and glad to have this tool to help me stay on track! Good luck to all and awesome job to those who are on the same path!
  2. I had my sleeve April 10th and since then I'm just about to hit on the losers bench progress notch of -100! As of August 29th I am -92.5! Pretty excited as I'm just shy of 5 months post op. This journey has been a challenge and a great new life starter! The pics below are week 1 to week 20. Second pic is last years swim top vs this years what I call my "fatkini" top! Third pic is last July vs this July! What a difference a year can do!! Best wishes to all those on their journey and any questions let me know!

    What does restriction feel like?

I get the same thing.. I get the hiccups and my chest gets real tight as if I ate something super dry and need to drink to push it down.. Keeping track of what you eat, taking your time will really help with that. I had the hardest time with it when coming home and forcing protein shakes down and when starting to real food.. Good luck!

    Side sleeper

The best thing I did was sleep on our couch for the first week home. I was able to prop a pillow right to the side of my tummy where the stitches were and then another pillow under my knees just enough that didn't killed my back or let methods and turn all night.. It was tough I'm a huge side/stomach sleeper and now 2 weeks out I'm sleeping in bed with what my husband calls my pillow fort.. A pillow on both my stomach side and back side to help me from rolling over onto my stomach but it does get easier.. I like to "cup" my hand around my stitches when laying on my side it helps to fall asleep easier!
  6. Morning- so I am almost one week post op from having the sleeve- best day, however I have am having a hard time understanding what is going on with my body's signals! Help! When I know I am not getting in anywhere the recommended Protein or liquids I am feeling sooo full! I have been reading that people will get the hiccups when they are full and some even will have their noses start running a bit! What gives?! Both of these happen to me either after just a sip or after an hr or sipping or slowly earring a SF Jello cup! So I ask- what are some of your ways you know that your body is full and how long have these signs been sticking around for you?!

    Protein Drinks

The total lean 25 protein premise shakes are great from GNC. The ready made shakes are 170 calls and 25 protien low sugar and carbs. You can also buy powder same flavors, but the calories go up usually to 200 for 2 scoops for the 25 protein lots of variety! Another favorite is pure protein van/choc flavor powders 150 cal/25 protein. Can buy it for $10 at Wegmans! These powders I've been really enjoying with mixing with unsweetened almond vanilla milk or water and any different types of sugar free syrups I can find at Tj maxx, Marshall's and or Ross whih are usually around $3-4. Such a great variety to keep you from getting bored with flavors esp when doing many shakes a day! Good luck!

@ I had my surgery last Thursday and came home Saturday afternoon- this post op period is the weirdest! Knowing I need to eat/drink every so often and having zero appetite is such a new sensation. Yesterday I accidentally took 2 anti nausea pills which set up up great for the day.. My husband and I went for long walk, think I over did it a bit and today I got hit hard with nausea. I was having a hard time making sure I'm at least getting half if the expected protein/liquids in but I've wished up and made my protein shakes into popcicles that seems to be helping me to get them in! Sugar free Rita's Italian ice has also been my favorite might grab some more today and add some vanilla protein powder to get more Protein in! I did weigh myself a few times ( my husband said he's going to take the scale away from me if I don't stop! Lol) first day I was so full of liquids I was higher then when I left for surgery!! Ahh!! But when I got on today (4 days post op I'm down 10! Probably bc I'm not getting everything I need but it's def a motivator to get it in so the scale keeps moving downward! Good luck this week with post op!

When I was still in the hospital. I noticed the chicken brooth they were giving me was thinker and have more seasoning etc then mine did at home. I asked about it and they said it was fine since when eating the soup is done extremely slow- things should get too stuck. Hope this helps!
  11. I'm 3 days post op of the sleeve. This is such strange territory for a life time self proclaimed "big girl" now being forced/watched to eat - if, when, how much etc. I honestly have zero appetite at all. But in being trying to do my best. Anyway the main reason I'm sending this out - has anyone experienced cold symptoms after surgery?! I don't feel sick or anything but I am def losing my voice as the days go on! Clearing my throat hurts and this is the only other strange side effect I've had other than being nauseated with every movement and medicine choice while in patient care. So I ask did anyone lose their voice after and if so how long did that last?! Should I be worried just yet?? HELP!

    April 2014 pre-op group

I agree it's been so weird looking at food and NOT wanting to eat any of it. Trust me after being a biggie girl all my life and now having this only 2 days out and not wanting to eat it's def a new sensation! My parents and husband have been great moms feeding me like a baby again and is loving it! Lol she even has timers going off when it's time for another bite and I feel like a toddler saying no no no! Haha

    April 2014 pre-op group

I just came home this afternoon my surgery was Thursday April 10! I wish I could say it was a great 2 days I the hospital but I had crazy nausea issues with any medicine and or ANY movement I made. Worst few days ever! They finally changed the medicine and nausea medicine last night and it knocked me out for a great nights sleep! Got up moving and was finally not having bad reactions from everything! Yay! I agree the drain coming out was the worst as that was the only spot I was sore the worst! Ate 2 jellos today and sipes lots of random liquids before they cleared me to come home! Now liquids for the next 2.5 weeks til I meet with the dr again. Even with the horrible barium test and rolling around and feeling like I was dying this is all worth it! I can't wait for this new chapter that I can't believe has already started and seeing where this road will take me! Best of luck to everyone and here's to speedy recoveries!
