  1. Hey Dan! I am getting the Allergan Lap-band system. My doc didn't require the pre-op diet but I gained about 8 pounds over the holidays. I've been watching what I ate and exercised a little and have lost it, thank goodness! My weight right now is 307 and I have to say that you have done a fantastic job on your own!!!! This band will be a great success for you and will help you keep it off and avoid that yo-yo thing. I also will try to post when I am home on Tuesday. Take care and BEST OF LUCK ON MONDAY!! Claricey P.S. Don't forget to join the thread for January 2010 bandsters. We are posting on their post op.
  2. Toddee thanks SO much for your post! Are you having any problems with getting your Water in? I keep hearing how you can't really "gulp". It's sip, sip, sip. Also what kind of Protein are you using? Thanks and CONGRATULATIONS on your surgery! I look forward to chatting with you and all these fine Jan Bandsters in the coming weeks and months. Claricey
  3. Thanks Jennifer...I got the call late yesterday. I report at 6:30am eastern on Monday the 11th. I am SOOO PSYCHED! I will be spending one night in the hospital so I am packing my bag today. I plan to make sure I include a comfortable jogging suit to go home in, chapstick/blistex, a good book, my iPod (HAVE to have music) and my own liquid whey Protein bullet. I've been told by folks in my local support group that the protein they try to get you to drink in the hospital is AWFUL and to bring my own. Do you think I forgot anything???? Claricey
  4. I'm sitting here anxiously staring at my phone waiting for it to ring!! The hospital is supposed to call me today to tell me what time to report on Monday morning. I am off the charts excited but also getting a little nervous about the whole "surgery" thing. Ya know...anesthesia, recovery etc... I haven't really thought too much about that part till now. :tt1:
  5. TOTALLY AWESOME JOB!!! YOU GO!! Keep us updated on your progress and if you can...post your meal plan...I'm getting banded next week and would love another sample to follow. Take care! Claricey :smile2:
  6. OMG, LOVE IT! Thank you for creating such a unique cool thing for us all to share and enjoy! WE JanBand Journeymen (and women) ROCK! :smile2:
  7. Hi Everyone! I am SO glad to have found this thread. I get banded this coming Monday, January 11th. My surgeon did not require a liquid diet. I was just told to maintain my weight from my last appointment which was Thanksgiving week. Little problem called holiday eating has gotten in the way of me keeping that promise however. But I am eating healthy this week and trying to go into it in as good a shape as possible. I look forward to checking back in here with you all. Take care and best of luck everybody!! Claricey
  8. Oh this is SO my story! I just had to meet with my therapist on Monday about this. With my surgery looming so close (I get banded this coming Monday the 11th) a thought ran through my mind....what if it REALLY works..ALL THE WAY THIS TIME. I like everyone else has lost some weight over a dozen times. But to take it all the way and get to a healthy "normal" weight...NO WAY. I don't know why this is scarey but it is. Since I was 16 I've been over 200 pounds. I don't have an obvious reason why I've kept the weight sheild on like some have said so I don't know why...but I am terrified. On the other hand being a newer mom to 2 adopted children I am also terrified that it won't work. So I am quite the mess over here. But I thank you for posting this and for all the thoughtful compassionate replies that you have received. I am going into this with my eyes wide open and will deal with those feelings if and when they come. No sense in worrying about it now! Good luck to ALL and God Bless!
  9. Wow! 9 pounds already, that is awesome!!! What kinds of things are you putting in your house for when you get home the first few days? I keep thinking I'm forgetting something but I have sugar free ice pops, broth, egg whites, skim milk, yogurt....what else can we eat on the liquids/full liquids.
  10. Congrats and GOOD LUCK to you...I am over the top excited to be finally getting this done!!!
  11. I saw the thread for the 1/15'ers but thought I would ask about my date on 1/11. My surgeon does not require a pre-op diet...just asks that I don't gain any weight from my last appt with him which was Thanksgiving week. Guess what?...I GAINED...about 8 pounds...so I have to be VERY good the rest of the week to prepare myself. Hope to hear from any and all that getting banded soon! Take care, Claricey:thumbup:
  12. Congrats on your approval!!!!
  13. I have Aetna Choice POS II in the metro Philly area and just received my approval yesterday! From the time my surgeon submitted all of my information to them it only took 7 business days to receive approval. I did have to do all of the psych and nutrition work plus a 3 month program and my BMI is 47. Good luck everyone! Claricey
  14. Yes, that is him. Did I miss it in the literature somewhere??? I feel so stupid if I did!
  15. For those that have used Dr. Adam Goldstein in South Jersey before, do you know if he uses the Realize band? I forgot to ask this question and wanted to ask you folks here for your past experience with him. Thanks!
  16. DazzleMePlease...congrats on getting that consult appointment and GOOD LUCK! Please check in and let us know how it goes.
  17. Hey Dawn, Met with Dr. G. today. Went really well and I'm psyched. I will be reviewing my checklist tonight with my hubby and getting the appointments made asap. Will email you over the weekend. Good luck with all the bloodwork on Saturday. Claricey
  18. Hi Dawn, I meet with Dr. Goldstein this Friday and I'm very excited about it. I've been waiting since the 4th of July to see him!!! Please keep this thread going and post of your success with getting all the items off of your checklist and I'll do the same! Take care and good luck! Claricey
  19. Hi Heather, First let me say that I'm very sorry about the loss of your Dad. I think you are doing great and are on the right track. I too am still in the beginning stages, researching and talking with Doctors. However, I can share with you that I am 41 and my DH and I just adopted a toddler boy and the extra weight I am carrying is making it difficult to play with him (bad knees) and do alot of things that I would like to do with him. That is only one of my motivators but I mention it because I thought that I could handle being heavier and lose weight when I "had the time" Well alot of years have gone by and it's just so hard to lose now with my metabolism slower than when I was in my 20s and 30s. I think you would do great with the LapBand and I wish you all the best in your journey ahead.
  20. Hi there! I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of liquid diet you followed (brand name, if possible) and also what kind of foods you ate pre-op. Sounds like you are doing great and I take so much inspiration from this board! Thanks very much, Claricey
  21. I've noticed that not all folks have the same pre-op diet and are not restricting their intake for the same period of time prior to surgery. I'm still researching and do not meet with my surgeon until next month and would like to hear what specifically you can eat on the pre and post-op diets. What kind of Protein shakes are "the best" and how many ounces (typically) can you eat/drink at one sitting post surgery? I know these are all pretty basic questions and I've read many threads here so forgive me if I'm repeating questions that were already asked. Thanks!:ranger:
  22. I have BC/BS PPO also a very good insurance for this area. I unfortunately could not make the seminar last night as my son was sick, so I think I have to wait till 9/19 for the next one. I'm unhappy but it couldn't be avoided. I am anxious to get started as I am 41 and my metabolism has hit an all time low. Nothing seems to work for me anymore. I have approx. 145 pounds to lose. Take care!
  23. Hi jowjow...So does the seminar really take the full 2 hours? Also, about how many people usually attend? I'd love to keep in touch as we both go through the process.
  24. I am considering Dr. Goldstein as well. I have my seminar tomorrow and then can schedule my first appt. with him. I am nervous about the whole thing but extremely hopeful that this will help me!
