So excited for Orientation this week!
I had to save some more money to get mine so I took six months. I think if I would have had my money up front it would have only taken maybe 1 month, 2 tops. Once I had my money everything was boom, boom, boom right there. Congrats to you!! I wish you the best success!!

Seasoning and spices on preop?
I not only had the protein shakes, but the protein soups and powdered eggs. I spiced and seasoned like crazy when on the pre-op diet. When I asked my nutritionist, she said spice all I wnt as long as I shyed away from salt/sodium. There are lots of seasonings out there now days so I didn't miss the salt. Keep up the great work! PS...crushed red pepper was one of my faves!!

Stomach Growling
I had lots of stomach growling and I burped al lot in the beginning. I am 2 1/2 months post op and the growling isn't so much now. However I still feel the need to burp every so often. I think it is just normal considering all the changes we had to go through. My first thought was your protein, but you answered that right off stating you are meeting your protein requirements. Maybe it is more "digestive" noise than "growling" you are hearing.

Depressed about Weight gain after an injury. Is this normal
Swelling and possibly the sodium in any of your painkillers or medicines. Medicine can have so many hidden side effects these days. Please do not stop taking the meds if you are on anything. Once you have healed and off the medication, your weight will start coming back down. Praying a speedy recovery!!

Stretching pouch 1 week post op?
I doubt that you did any harm. However, you may want to go back to smaller drinks, just more often. Don't make it a habit if you feel that you over do it in either food or drink. I read that in an article that stressed the importance of making sure you get back on track immediately if you feel you lost it a little. Our bodies are pretty tough and our stomachs are naturally "stretchy to start with. It will shrink with less again. I wouldn't stress over it. Best wishes of great success to you!

trying not beat myself up lol
Hooray for you!! Look at the big picture. Hitting every goal would be amazing, but sometimes our bodies just don't cooperate no matter how hard we try. Stay positive! You're almost there!!!

help.! not losing
PS... Sorry about your break up. Emotional eating is huge. Try to stay focused on projects and keeping busy. I do spring cleaning!! It's great exercise as well!! Just so you know, 25 pounds since Feb 17th is GREAT!!! Keep it up!

help.! not losing
Well it looks like you have already lost 31 pounds. That 30 pound mark always has a plateau area around it somewhere. At least it does for me. Hang in there and stick to your guidelines and it will drop again. I went through a couple already. I did everything they tell you to try...extra water, exercise, no salt, etc.... My nutritionist said my body was just holding on to every ounce it could thinking I'm starving it and to wait it out. She also made me stay off the scale for a while so I would dwell on how I felt instead of the number on the scale. It worked! She was right! I wish I had some magic answer other than stick it out, but I don't know of one. Best wishes and I'm sure you'll do great.

Any tips for managing yourself when bad foods are around
My family is the same exact way!! I have been learning to try to stay occupied. Especially keeping my mind busy. I have already been getting alot of spring cleaning done!! It's great exercise and by the time I am done, I feel so happy with my accomplished project on hand, I really don't want to eat. I'm actually getting things done that I have wanted to get to for a couple years now. Find something mentally rewarding to do and I believe it helps me not do the "emotional" eating. Everyone is different, but that is how I have been coping with it. I also keep their snacks away from mine. That way I don't have to see theirs when I am hungry. i have been used to them eating in front of me through all the years of yo yo dieting so that doesn't bothmuch anymore either. I wish you all the best and lots of success!!!

So hungry
Just a thought...Are you getting enough Protein? In the pureed food stage I pureed anything high protein and that would help the hunger go away. Plus i stayed fuller longer. Canned white chicken with a little cream of chicken, Meatballs with a little spaghetti sauce (no pasta), be creative to shake off the bordom. pureed boiled eggs with mustard tastes alot like deviled eggs... Just a thought and trying to be helpful. The small amount you are eating will not hurt your weight loss. Wishing you the best!!

hiccups?
I'm guessing it is. I was a burper! LOL I burped unexpectedly for the first 2 weeks. I never was gassy. I am betting this is normal and that is what your body is doing. However, if it is persistant and it worries you, I would ask your doctor.

Advice to be supportive?
I have bad knees and it was a snowstrom in January when I had mine, so I couldn't walk as much as I wanted to. However, I made it a point that first week to just get up and walk around the house. Even though it was slow, it was movement. By the end of the week I went to the grocery store to get my walking in!! LOL Just doing something, but nothing too straining. Slow and gentle. She will know as she listens to her body. I still can't go to a gym with my knees and back, but they are doing sooooo much better. I use a 6 pound medicine ball in my living room and 2 pound hand weights at my desk at work in addition to just walking. It sounds very low impact, but it is working wonders for me. This is just my expirience. I read where others are at the gym and jogging. That's just not my thing yet. LOL She will know what she is capable of as she listens to her body. I have never felt so in touch with what my body is saying as I am now. Getting your eating under control is enlightening and empowering!! You are doing an awesome thing!!

Advice to be supportive?
What a good friend you are. Just remind her that any discomfort she may have during recovery is temporary. Just being there for her and encouraging her is huge!! Make sure she sips enough liquids, and follows the doctor and nutritionist instructions and she will be fine. Make sure she has GasX strips that first week. They will help with the bloating from the surgery. Just tell her you understand how hard this is and how proud you are of her. She has just made a lifetime commitment to a new lifestyle. A healthier lifestyle. Support is what comes to mind foremost. I know she has family, but a good friend will be good mentally. May god bless you, and look over her. I wish her great success!

scale drama
Did I ever!!! I'd weigh twice a day! My nutritionist was not happy that I compared my weight loss to others and let's not mention that I told her I was upset when the scale stays the same for 3 days in a row!! She told me her concern is that I am not fully enjoying the benefits of my weight loss. I told her I look at the big picture..Loose clothing, healthier, walking better, etc... But she said if I truly was looking at the big picture, I wouldn't be emotional over the scale. She told me to only weigh once a week and once a week only! So I left her office 2/21/14 and did NOT weigh until my last appointment which was this past Friday, 3/28/14. I knew I had lost cause my clothes were baggy & people kept asking me how much have I lost...I almost cried when i saw the scale in her office. I was down 25 pounds!!! I must tell you, I DID FEEL REALLY GOOD NOT WEIGHING EVERYDAY. Just not knowing felt strange at first, but I was feeling so good that I was dwelling on my body and not a scale number. I have decided again to go this month without weighing till my next appointment on 4/28/14. I truly am getting the big picture now! Best wishes to you!! Remember, it's just a number. It doesn't measure the important things!

Myth Busting: My Top 5 Weight Management Myths
I thoroughly enjoyed this article. It helped me feel better about my eating choices during my first 2 months. I was recommended after post op to try to eat a little something every 3 hrs if possible to ensure I'm getting my nutrients. I just could NOT eat that often. Nor could I fit in all the portions of fruit, veggies, and Protein requirements with the small amount I was taking in each meal. After protein, I had no room for anything else. I do adhere to a high protein/low carb diet and I only eat when I'm hungry. It's nice to know I can have a carb once in a while in propotion to the protein if I desire. Thank you!!

Fat and Jolly to Skinny B
As the weight comes off, I feel I definately am earning my self respect back. I don't think I'm moody, but perhaps that is how we can be inturpreted.LOL! In my mind, I try to be postivie and treat people how I want to be treated.

The Ghost Sleeve
I personally did notice it when I hit the pureed stage. The more dense or thicker the puree, the more you will notice it. Be sure to listen to your body after every bite. If you even start to think, "Hmm am I getting full?", you probablly are. That next bite will make you feel a little uncomfortable. At least that's how it worked for me.

day 4 post op
It's probably an emotional eating habit. So common. It's a pattern hard to break, but you can do it. Find a hobby or something to occupy your mind. I used to be drawn to the kitchen when I was not hungry and would eat 2 or 3 different things. Since surgery I try to make it a point to find things to do or dwell on the fact I am full and content. Just recognizing the fact you want to eat when not hungry is half the battle. You have this beat!!! Best wishes for great success.
