  1. From the album: 4 Month Progress

4 months after surgery still have a long way to go....but happy with my progress so far!

what is your weight loss at 3 mos post op?

This is so VERY true. If I constantly compared myself to others I would go bananas. Your body is going to do what it wants, when it wants. Like someone said on another post, check yourself a year from your surgery date....that is going to be your greatest milestone. I swear I've lost and gained the same 5-6 pounds over the last month, but my surgeon says it's normal. I tend to judge my progress by non scale victories. Started out wearing18/20 pre - surgery, now I'm wearing a 12/14.....but the scale isn't moving all that much. I'm still happy with my success and measuring or comparing myself to others would only destroy my happiness. Best wishes to all :-)
  3. Happy to report, went to se my primary care doc last Monday and he whips out the Insure Nutrition paperwork that he literally has had since my surgery back in February. He was very pessimistic about my insurance paying for anything since my surgery was "elective"......but got a call Thursday from Insure and EVERYTHING was approved and has shipped. The shakes....scar cream, vitamins.......... Glad it was covered.

    4 Month Progress

This more of a "during" pic, still have a long way to go... but I am getting there :-)
  6. Basically what everyone else has said...the "sensation" you are experiencing could be from a number of things.... the new position of where your stomach/sleeve is... swelling/tightness from your surgery ( its still VERY NEW)...and the one thing I have learned over the last few months.. you HAVE to eat and sip very, very slow... and take breaks in between each sip of liquid and each bite of food. It would normally take me about 10-15 minutes ( or less) to finish a 16.9 bottle of Water...now it takes me about 1 hour - 1 1/2 hour. It has been a struggle for me because I am so use to eating fast...and not taking the time to really chew my food....now I have no choice....because if I don't I could spend an hour or more with the same discomfort that you are describing..and if it doesn't subside.... I am also forced to regurgitate my food. Take things slow.... don't wait until you are over powered with physical and/or head hunger because when I do that...I tend to want to rush and eat and that's when I get in trouble... :-)
  7. 9 more lbs. until ONEDERLAND.... how ONDERFUL!!!! :-)

    Thought I was DYING!

Yes ma'am... It's been almost 3 months for me ... and I am STILL having to remember that certain foods... I simply can't not have any more. There have been countless times.. I've had to spit out something I was drinking or about to eat because it was too much for me to handle. Chewing has been a bit of a struggle too... because I want SO bad to swallow as soon as I take a bite of something. Like you if I swallow the wrong thing or swallow too prematurely it can haunt me for hours... and keep me all night. Also... waiting to drink at least about 45 minutes to an hour after I eat has also been difficult. But I have found it is very necessary in order to ensure that all of my food has digested and the liquid won't cause a clogging episode.
  9. Only 65 more lbs. to go before I reach my final goal.. GOD is good!!!!

  10. It's been about 2 months since my surgery and I've lost about 32 lbs. It's been slow... but I'm very thankful for my progress... I have about 70-80 more pounds to go and I will be at goal. This is definitely NOT an easy way out... my body has been rearranged...but I still have my daily struggles with making the "right" food choices. I thank God everyday for blessing me with my tool..because there is NO way in the world I could have lost 32 pounds this quickly... any other way. It has not been easy..and I have a loooonnnggg way to go...but I know I will get there!

2 Month Progress ( Pic Included)

i know right? That is SOOOOO irritating considering all that we have gone through... not knowing if you are going to wake up from surgery... going from normal bites to teeny weeny baby bites...taking an hour to eat something that normally would take you about 10-15 minutes. Not being able to drink while you eat... no more Diet Dr. Pepper for me....battling "head hunger" which in my opinion is WAY worse than physical hunger. Having to get in your "protein" when your body is full and your literally uncomfortable from feeling stuffed. This is by far one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with. It has become so frustrating at times... I simply just drink shakes all day so I don't have to deal with solid foods. On the bright side...my weight loss is coming along and I am forever grateful for that. My current NSV ( my size 16's are getting loose so I'm on my way to a 14) and I can wear a size Large in Old Navy tops instead of XXL and XL. :-) (my fav store right now) Thanks to everyone who has commented and left words of encouragement... you guys help keep me focused on the BIGGER picture....and not my daily inconveniences.

    Barker bariatrics dallas texas

My co-worker used Dr. Barker ( 2/10/14 surgery date)... I had the same surgery date... but used Dr. Alexander. If your surgery is going to be done at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas... I can tell you that the facility is state of the art and the staff was EXCEPTIONAL! Every one was very professional and took their job very seriously. From the cleaning staff to the surgeons that assisted Dr. Alexander with my surgery. If you are having your surgery done there... you will be in great hands ( in my opinion). My co-worker was/is very satisfied with Dr. Barker and has since referred a few other co-workers to him as well. I went with Dr. Alexander because he specializes in revisions ( i had gastric bypass revised to gastric sleeve).
  13. There was no wait for me... I went in for my consult on a Thursday and was approved that following Tuesday morning. Super fast approval. Basically, all my doctor had to do was confirm my BMI was high enough and I was morbidly obese. I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas as well.

How often do you weigh yourself?

Once a day...first thing in the morning.. preferably in my birthday suit...after I use the bathroom. The reason why I do this is so that I can see if what I've eaten the day before causes a gain/loss..etc. If the scale doesn't move.. and there have been quite a few days when it hasn't, I don't get discouraged or whatever I just keep pushing. I know that eventually once my body "levels" off the weight will start coming off again.

    feb 2013 sleevers weigh in

Surgery date 2/10/14 Pre-surgery weight : 248 Post-surgery : 222 Current weight of 222 was as of this morning 3/16.. .about 5 weeks post-op. I experienced about a 2 week stall right after I came home from the hospital. To each his own...BUT I am convinced that there was a correlation between "no" movement and my stall. During the time of my stall it had been about 3-4 days of no movement. I took miralax (per doctor recommendation) and also started taking 2 Fiber gummies twice a day and after about 3 days I had movement and my stall broke. Ever since then the scale has been moving. I continue to take my fiber gummies daily and I also try to eat "fiber" as much as possible through out the day.

    Surgery with High Blood Pressure

I agree with this as well... I have had high blood pressure since I was around 16 ( genetics). My surgeon/anesthesiologist and the medical center where I had my surgery are apart of the Bariatric Centers of Excellence in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. They deal with issues like this all of the time. My blood pressure was high the morning of surgery and was even high after. The staff was great and got it under control the entire time that I was hospitalized. Upon discharge my surgeon prescribed me new medication and since then it has been well under control. I am hoping that within the next few months (as I continue to lose weight and with my dietary changes) my pressure will remain normal even without medication.

Band to Sleeve on Mar 20th in Dallas

Hi Monica... I am also in Dallas and had my revision ( Gastric Bypass to Sleeve) done on 2/10/14 by Dr. John Alexander. My approval was very quick as well about 2 days actually...and just like you I was approved so quick it's like I didn't even have an opportunity to think very long about "NOT" doing it. I was a bit nervous..( hate being put to sleep) and excited all at the same time. I came home around 5 pm on the 12th so my stay was about 2 1/2 days. My procedure was done at Forest Park Medical center... and my stay was very nice..the staff was great. I can tell you now..that I am SO glad I went through with the revision. Everything has been going extremely well. Today marks 1 month since having surgery and so far I have lost about 25 lbs (pre-post/surgery combined). I love the fact that I can no longer stuff myself..or over eat. I only eat now...because I need to eat..not because I want to. The restriction is great.. still getting use to eating and sipping slow. When they say chew your food 22 times before swallowing.. they mean it. You can not eat or drink at the same time and you really have to space out your bites. I try to wait at least 3-5 minutes between bites and sips. Other than making those adjusts while eating everything else has been great!

    Surgery Tomorrow

Best wishes and a speedy recovery! When I was awaken after surgery... I felt extremely drowsy of course from the anesthesia. My throat was a bit sore...the doctor told me prior to surgery that there would be a breathing tube inserted down my throat to help me breathe during surgery, but taken out as I woke up and started to breathe on my own. Like some one mentioned above...my stomach felt VERY sore...and it did hurt. I actually felt the pain in my back as well for some reason. The first week... I walked pretty much humped over because 1. I still had my staples in and 2. my stomach felt SOOOOO tight. As the days went on the soreness and tightness went away and I was able to stand up straight while walking. I had dthe PCA Pump while in the hospital (morphine) and it helped me out tremendously. My advice to anyone is to stay on top of that pump and when its time ... use it. I noticed when I would wait too long to push the button and my pain started to intensify it would take longer for the morphine to work. I would say after about my second week... I was good to go. I have a little (tighness/soreness) on my upper left side. The nurse told me it would be that way for awhile considering that is where my doctor did most of the work and that is also of course where the stomach is located. It was very hard to swallow even Water the first week. I was only able to take in about an ounce every 15-30 minutes. Practice sipping slowly...waiting about 5 minutes in between sips if you can... (just to be on the safe side). Right now I am still learning to do that... along with eating VERY slowly and chewing my food a lot before I swallow. I am also thinking of purchasing a baby spoon/fork set the next time I go to Walmart... to help with taking smaller bites of food. Sure you will do very well...

    nervous revision

I had Gastric Bypass surgery December 2005. I was just revised to a Sleeve on 2/10/14. I too was very nervous, excited, anxious... and went through sooooo many emotions leading up to the surgery date. I almost walked out of the hospital waiting for my surgery to start that morning. My mom was with me and helped to keep me calm...that and a lot of prayer.. lol Its been about a month since I've had my revision...and I can tell you that I am VERY HAPPY with my decision. I had researched the surgery and my surgeon for months before I even had my first consult. I live in Dallas and there are A LOT of doctors who do bariatric surgeries, but only a "select" few that deal with revisions. So far so good...everything has been pretty much text book for me. I've gone back to work... energy level is back at normal... and I've lost about 24 pounds in total ( pre-surgery/post surgery). I am sure you will do fine... my only problem so far has been the dreaded head "hunger". With the removal of the stomach... Gherlin production is drastically reduced so there is no physical hunger...but I still have the tendency to want to eat something or "graze". Slowly but surely I am learning to tell the difference between wanting to eat and NEEDING to eat. Eating slower is also a BIG change I am having to deal with...and sipping. I am use to eating fast and take large gulps. Use to drink about 2 liters of Diet Dr. Pepper everyday... yes... everyday.. haven't had diet soda since before surgery and right now I don't miss it. Have to remind myself to eat...and the restriction is AWESOME. I am really hoping to reach my goal weight within the next 11 months (140-145 lbs). Wishing you all the best with your upcoming surgeries... I love my Sleeve
