I'm a smoker, and was not denied surgery because of it. I stopped smoking the day before surgery. I was given a nicotine patch in the hospital.

wwled got a reaction from jazma in How does the sleeve experience differ from the lapband experience?
I had lapband as well and in the beginning of the month I revised to a sleeve. I know I'm only 3 weeks out but I will try to help! I can tell you for sure that there are no swallowing issues. I haven't gotten anything "stuck" the way I did with my lapband. With my lapband, I couldn't get liquids in when I first woke up I was so tight.
as for the slime, I still get that, depending on what I eat. If I eat something that doesn't sit well I get the slime, but not nearly as much as with the band.
Nausea is a common thing for the first few months after surgery. I've struggled with it over the last few weeks. Zofran and Prilosec really help me.
With the lapband, I only lost 40 pounds in 4 years. With the sleeve, I have lost 15 in 3 weeks. It's hard, but I believe it's worth it 100%.

I put up so many "fat" or bad pictures. It's easy now because I know I will never be there again. Hell, even my Facebook has full body shots now.

Down about 40, hit a stall, feeling slightly discouraged. Tried on the clothes I wore to the hospital day of surgery, and WOW. Picture on the left I'm wearing the exact same clothes I wore to hospital, size 2X shirt and pants, on the right are my new size medium shirt and pants. I think I'm losing inches faster than weight.

Hear me out. I switched to sleeve recently, had lapband for 4 years. Occasionally when I eat, I get the same "stuck" feeling. This is followed by increased saliva. Today, I had this feeling and had to throw up. First came a white frothy saliva thing. Then out came what looked like literally a bag of mucous. Not sure if anyone has experienced this.

wwled got a reaction from JacobsMommy in I am 2 days post-op is it okay to swallow small Tylenol?
My pain medicine was actually given to me in a pill form. I was given IV pain meds when in the hospital day 1 and 2, but when I was at home, I was prescribed norco in a pill form, as well as zofran. I had no issue with it, besides the nausea that came from swallowing Enough Water to wash the pill down. Try plugging your nose when you take your pain medicine, keep your nose plugged after you swallow, then immediately suck on a Popsicle.

I was sleeved on the 5th. I'm on a regular diet, although I eat pretty much the same thing. Down 28 pounds and 2 sizes. Week 1 vs today.

I was banded in 2010, have since converted to a sleeve due to complications of the lapband. If I remember correctly, my bill before insurance was 3,000 around there.

After a very long 5 weeks battling constant nausea, and needing to take 2 zofran a day, I no longer need it! It's such a nice feeling to be able to eat/drink without feeling like I'm going to Ralph!

you'll love it! It helps having awesome support groups, especially people your own age. I have some scars, just where they did the incisions. They heal over time, and unless you know what to look for, you can barely see them. I haven't worried too much about preventative measures because I know eventually I'll have to have excess skin removed anyway.

I actually had the lapband four years ago. I was visiting my surgeon discussing some of my problems when he recommended the sleeve. I only lost 36 pounds with the lapband. I've already lost over half that with the sleeve. The lapband has it's benefits, but it's really about restriction and controlling yourself. You can eat anything you want, even a whole pizza if you sit there long enough to try to get it all down. With the sleeve, I get super full. Like thanksgiving dinner full, on next to nothing. It's amazing. Recovery was easy. It was hard the first couple days with pain, but after that it was easy, I don't even feel like I just had major surgery a month ago! I'm a stomach sleeper, and I was able to sleep on my belly again within under a week. But typically they just wonder how long you've struggled, what you've done for weightloss etc. The sleeve though is so much better than lapband. I'll attach some pictures in a minute.

I believe mine was 75%, maybe be more. I have a lot more restriction than I thought. Could be swelling or more removed than I thought as well.

wwled got a reaction from Ariella in How did you handle telling everyone about your surgery
I went from lapband to sleeve. Many of my family members knew I had the sleeve, and also that I was having complications. I wasn't going to tell anyone that I was having sleeve at first, but I changed my mind. A lot of people in my life don't understand, but I would rather they know invade something bad were to happen, or lord forbid they think I suddenly developed an eating disorder. Surprisingly, everyone had been immensely supportive.
At the end of the day. It's your body and your choices. Do what make you feel comfortable!
