Ana Gram got a reaction from Teachamy in Sleeve Surgery & Diabetes
I was type II on metformin, victoza and a small amount of daily lantus insulin. I stopped those prior to surgery while on pre-op liquid diet and hever resumed them. I just had an A1C test this week and my results were 4.8, from a high of 9.8 about 3 years ago.

I have a friend that has travelled with Gutsy Women Travel. She has been widowed for years and I know she has been to Italy on one trip and earlier this year she went to Costa Rica. She said one of the reasons she enjoys the trips so much is because of the wide range of ages among the other women travelers. Google the group name and the website will pop right up.
I am going to see her tomorrow (we are part of a quilt class/group that meet each week) and I will ask if she has any other advice for you.
    Good Luck!

Ana Gram reacted to CowgirlJane in How do you feel about eating out after weight loss surgery?
I picked other because you did not really have a "positive" choice to vote for. i never get sick, I can always find something and I am very comfortable eating at restaurants - I enjoy the social aspects and the ambiance. If I am with my sons, i usually take a small portion off their plates. If I am out with friends, or a date or something, I eat off the appetizer menu. Shrimp skewer, for example, is the perfect bariatric meal.
I am 28 months post op, I didn't really go to restaurants too much during the weight loss phase.
I never feel like anybody looks at me weird or any of that. I think that since I am now "small" people accept it, when I was obese, i probably got more "looks" but again I didn't do alot of restaurant meals during the loss phase.

You are a gift to this world regardless of the ignorant people who abandoned you. Many souls understand your struggle and we're rooting for you. We wish we could hugggg you.

These are such great awareness's! Boredom is a thought feeling state; meaning you have a state of mind about being bored (thoughts) and feelings associated with it. Ana Gram, since you ID associations of the word "boredom" with other thoughts like " feeling left out of activities that my family or friends are doing"
So go deeper with this; does this create feelings of loneliness or isolation/separation or not being loved, etc... Once you ID the core feeling(s) which you have already ID is not boredom but something deeper. Then ask yourself is this thought feeling state even true, really true right now in the present or is it like you said something brought up from your subconscious from child hood? Also just practice sitting with it.
This is going to sound funny; but get to know it. Where is the feeling in your body? How intense is it from a 1 to 10? What type of energy does it radiate if any? Become curious about the feelings. This is a form of meditation/mental focus. If you can stay focused long enough even ask it what it needs to go away. You will be amazed what you find out about yourself. Remember feelings are just blocked energy in your body created by thoughts/ belief structures instilled in you from child hood.
This process you are going through is so empowering.

Ana Gram, this sentence just set off a lightbulb for me. Boredom is an emotion. I tend to think of emotion as sad, happy, angry, etc. I'll now ask myself, is this impulse this moment driven by a thought or not? Boredom isn't a thought, right? If it's not a thought, it's probably an emotion. Then I can feel the emotion, and take control of the thoughts that follow.
Ooh, we're gonna get so GOOD at this!

This article was very timely and helpful for me as I just had a very high calorie day yesterday and I had not made the connection that I was eating emotionally, I thought it was just boredom. But I do keep going to the same chocolate/peanut butter combination and I realized it occurs when I am feeling left out of activities that my family or friends are doing. Those feelings and my response go back to my childhood, so the next time I crave those cups, instead I can start to think about what it is I am really craving!

Ana Gram got a reaction from Susysleever in doctor's note for time off
My doctor just said something like "Patient will be having abdominal surgery and will need to be out of work until (then I put it 1 month out from my surgery)" I was back at work within two weeks, but it was nice to have the extra time built in in case I needed it.

As they say, the surgery is only a tool. If you are not committed and use the sleeve to its full potential, you wont see big results. My last Dr visit, they had a spreadsheet of all the patients and their progress. And it had a full range from dramatic loss to very little.
The sleeve is not magic, you still have to work at losing the weight, but its a hell of alot easier than without it.

Premier Protein now has strawberry... very sweet but I like it. Same stats - 30g of Protein, 160cals and I think 5grams of carbs (love the chocolate, hate the vanilla).. Anyhoo... all flavors were $4 off a case today! The premier Protein Bars are also on sale... I think 3.50 off per box. They are high carb though...
I also found a new AmyLu product in the fridge section. "Chicken burgers" with cheese and lots of flavor in them. 150 calories, low carb at 2 grams and a whooping 22 grams of protein. I consider THAT a protein bargain!
I buy a couple of other protein items at costco regularly - sandwich meat (love the pastrami!), AmyLu's chicken maple Breakfast sausage ( 90 cals, 14g protein and 2g carbs). I also buy an italian sausage that is very low calorie, but i don't remember all the details anymore.

My workplace requires medical certification for FMLA leaves, my surgeon just sent a statement on letterhead that I was having abdominal surgery, I didn't even ask him to be discreet since I had already confided in my boss and my subordinate who would need to cover for me while I was out, but I did really appreciate that they kept it vague so that at some future point no one could look in my HR files and then blab to others about what I had done. For anyone who directly asked about my leave, I just said I had some personal things to get taken care of.

I mix 1 single serve pouch of tuna with 1/4 C .2% cottage cheese and 1 T. of regular mayo for 2 servings. 1 serving has 83 cal., 2g carbs, 3g. fat, 1 Fiber, and 13 Protein. I often eat this for lunch with 1/4 of an avocado.

High Five that is my date too! Scheduled for 11:30 AM. I've even done far better on the 10 day pre-op diet that I figured I would.
I had an experience today at work that took away any possible doubt (not that there really was any) about having surgery. I went to meet the temp who will be helping out during my absence and to bring her back to our department. She is truly as big around as she is tall and she had to stop four times to catch her breath. I was thinking I'd be training a new temp tomorrow because there is no way she will want to work here for two weeks if she has to walk that distance twice a day. I really need to be thankful I am working where I have the insurance to cover this and that they offer the paid time off as well. Truly a "there but for the Grace of God, go I" moment for me.

Ana Gram got a reaction from Teachamy in Please help: how to not feel like a failure?
Yes, I experienced something similar. I dismissed it out of hand when my doctor brought it up over a year ago, agreed to do the informational seminar when I saw her in August and was surprised to find myself crying while watching it online and again before sending in the paperwork they sent to me.
I think, for me, it was a combination of disappointment that I had failed doing it "on my own" and fear of what will I do if I fail at WLS too?
I can't say if this surgery is right for you, but I think it is right for me and I believe it will give me the best shot at having a healthier more active and enjoyable life.
    Best wishes for your decision!

Im just doing 4 Protein Shakes a day and am just drinking as much Water or tea as I can in a day to help curb my appetite. Today I picked up this loose tea from DavidsTea (not sure if u have one where you are), but its called "forever nuts" and OMG!!! this will get me through any craving...its seriously like an apple crumble in a cup..but with a nutty flavor...so very delicious for being zero calories and decaffinated.
I guess just really going from one day to the next is the best way to go

I am right there with you! I am supposed to do 6 shakes per day and then unlimited broth, tea, sf popsicles or sf Jello. I only managed 4 shakes yesterday and 2 today. The popsicles are nice, the cherry Jello tastes like Sucrets. My strategy at this point is to just try to sleep as much as possible.
I am going to tell them at work tomorrow that we better get all of the hard stuff done today because I expect to be brain-dead the rest of the week.
