No one ever mentioned the use of a PPI; thanks. I will follow up. I have been using eat slower this morning and it seems to help. The "ding" in the background is almost subliminal and means I don't have to watch the clock constantly. This is a major improvement. No meds this morning (probably because I am eating slower) so maybe I can drive later today! A much better day, so far. Thanks much.

Have you tried the app myfitnesspal. It allows you to scan the barcode or manually input what you are eating. Today marks my 4th day post op and I started using it on the 2nd day of my preop diet I like it because it is simple to monitor what you eat. Plus you can add the cups off Water. In addition you can track your exercise.

I was so hungry the first month. It was so hard to tell the difference between hunger, digesting, and gas pain. It all hurt for me. I finally started Fiber gummies and it helped a lot. Ask if you can have those. It helped with not feeling hungry all the time. I could not tell if I was full until I had chest pain, then I would throw up. I still struggle with eating slow enough but thankfully I rarely have vomiting issues any more. You may find that certain foods will no longer work for you. Potatoes are a sure fire vomit food for me, even when just in something. Good news is that I no longer crave french fries. I got over that really fast! Again, fiber gummies saved my sanity. Good luck.

Not sure what surgery you had, but if you had the gastric sleeve or DS, you may be having excess stomach acid rather than true hunger.* Excess acid, which happens to many people after being sleeved, often presents as hunger. If you are not on a PPI, you may want to talk this over with your surgeon. If you are on a PPI, you may need a higher or more frequent dose, or a stronger PPI.
I second the recommendation for the Eat Slower app -- it was a great help to me in the initial months after surgery.
*this may also be true for bypass or lapband patients, I just don't know anything about those situations so I can't really say.

There is an app called Eat Slower (I think) that times your bites and counts down to your next one. Something like this may help you get in the habit?

It seems like many of the drinks are under 20 grams of Protein. Has anyone tried this one? http://www.swansonvitamins.com/about-time-whey-protein-isolate-vanilla-2-lbs-pwdr?csi=SYX002&csp=AT001
I've heard that there is less hair loss after surgery if you stay on the high side of Protein.< /p>

@@sunshine69 I had surgery Sept 14, I had a hard time walking the pain in my feet would cause me dread to do anything. I'm 53 and was fed up with being out of breath and feet that would hurt. If I did a little activity I could hardly make it to the bathroom in the middle of the night my feet would hurt so bad. Doing the slightest of activities would cause me to pant out of breath like a dog who ran for miles. This past Friday I spent the entire day shopping and went for a hike out to see my horse which was about half a mile, then did several loads of laundry (up and down many flights of stairs), and really didn't notice till I went to bed that night, there was no pain, none! That alone is the biggest Christmas present..

MPL reacted to lark60 in Today I had an "ah-ha" moment of clarity about myself
I have been struggling with my weight "forever". As a child I was compared with my younger sister who had an overactive thyroid (thus underweight) and I felt "fat" (in reality my thyroid was hypoactive at the time and never investigated). Then after getting married (I weighed 125 and still thought I was fat), having 4 children (gaining about 5 lbs after each child) and chose to end my marriage of 15 years (he had an affair and wanted me to "accept her") I ended up gaining 100 lbs the year after the divorce.
After 20 years living on my own I had the surgery to prevent (and reverse) the health issues of obesity and start to care for myself. I had been watching my mother waddle around the house as a "butterball" and knew if I didn't make changes I would be in the same boat but wouldn't have anyone to care for me since I am alone.
I have been working with a therapist for PTSD and have realized that I have lived my life since childhood caring for everyone else and putting myself last. I have been in a spiral of self hatred for decades and used food to stuff my feelings, bury the pain, hurt and neglect that I experienced as a child and then as a wife in a unhealthy relationship.
I started taking antidepressants in October 2013 because my world seemed to be crashing down around me. I ended up quitting my job in January 2014 because of panic attacks and paranoia from verbal threats from my patients (I can tell you that the rumors about the VA medical care are true and the doctors are not supported by the upper management) Around August 2014 my weight loss stopped (not just stalled) and I gained 10 lbs. For months I tried different tips with diet, exercise, Water intake and changing around my Protein intake but no luck getting to my weight goal. Today I realized that weight gain is typical with antidepressant use (duh, even doctors forget the basics) and I had titrated up to a high dose of medication in August.
I am learning to "love" myself (this is very foreign to me) and know I am not ready to stop taking the medication. I am satisfied with my current weight and know when I work through several issues from the past I will be able to get to my goal weight. This is my "ah-ha" moment so I wanted to share.

Can we revive this? I am having trouble finding others with fibro (well, I am having trouble with the "search" function altogether: nothing found on "protein drinks" either? My fibro doctor advises against surgery because it is a fibro trigger-- talk about being between a rock and a hard place. People who had the surgery, please speak up!

MPL got a reaction from BeagleLover in Denied by Blue Shield of CA as "Not Medically Necessary"
Peteyrulz, I took your advice and contacted Lindstrom. Kelley was so helpful had great information that made me feel a little less powerless and a little more hopeful.. I will be trying this after I clarify with my dr.'s office that they aren't doing anything further. Thanks for the reference!
All of my doctors-- including a very supportive PCP-- are shocked at the denial, but every one of them had a story to tell about recent problems with Blue Shield of CA. It's a shame that when I finally need to use it for something substantial, they aren't there, but that's the go-away game they are playing, I guess.
Thank you all who responded-- I appreciate the advice, stories and support!

I really don't understand why these threads continually turn into fights and personal attacks.
I think it is fine to state your opinion and the reason you feel that way, but I am finding this site is turning into a school yard of bullying and name calling.
Things get taken out of context, the barbs go flying and we are off on another 100+ post thread that has little to do with the original subject matter.

It is one of those things that is up to the individual. Leave space for those who feel more vulnerable in this process. This part of the process is a "walk a mile in someone elses shoes" thing. There will come a time that you want your conversations to vary from the surgery onto the habits you developed, and the healthy things you are doing. It is a phase of the process. Time tells so, so much.

I admire you for being able to tell the truth. I have not had the courage to tell anyone except a few people. In all honesty, I am ashamed that I had to resort to surgery to beat obesity. It is something I am working to overcome. Don't be too harsh on those of us who have chosen to keep it a secret. It really isn't anyone else's business, and WLS is a very personal decision. I tell people I am eating a lot of Protein and exercising. That's not a lie, unless you consider it a lie by omission.

I have absolutely no objection to the use of kisses; I think whatever works is fine to get him through this and on to other milestones! (Isn't it funny how our standards drop once we've actually HAD kids?) In case you are looking for an alternative, though, we used a star chart (actually a poster of zoo animals he stuck a variety of stickers all over) and a new hot wheel after a certain number of stickers were earned. (For your own sanity's sake, buy a bunch of cars in advance!)
    Good luck on both fronts!

I was dx'd with fibromyalgia about 8 years ago and have a pretty severe case. It was referred to as "nonspecific automimmune disease" for about 20 years before that. Previous bouts of CFE.
There must be a significant overlap of patients with fibro and patients who consider weight loss surgery, since fibro magnifies actual pain and creates neuropathy and makes exercising excruciating (not hard, not painful, excruciating. I delivered 2 9 lb kids without drugs, so I am or was pretty pain-tolerant. ( I can tolerate warm Water exercise programs and do those several times a week, several hours each.)
My fibro doctor is adamantly against any invasive surgery since surgery itself can be a fibro trigger. No weight loss surgery, no way. My PCP thinks it would be a great idea, but he gets bonuses based on "increasing health" in his practice's population. HELP. I generally trust and respect both of them, and just wish someone had straight info on this!
Any fibromites who have had or have researched WLS?
