Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery.i had a gastric bypass October13, 2013. I have lost 55 lbs and I feel great! I can do things now I haven't done in years! The most important thing is being off all meds for diabetes and cholesterol. I only take 1/2 a bp pill where I was taking 4 pills a day before surgery. I hope to get off that when I lose more weight. My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago. I am sure you will do great. I was sore for about 2 weeks, the pain was not bad at all. I was very nervous going into the surgery, but I am so glad I did it! I'll be praying for you.

Missnikki13. I had bypass in October. It is difficult to get all the Protein in for a few weeks. Just do what you can and drink a lot of Water. I used pure protein frosty chocolate already mixed in the bottles. I tolerated that much better than the powder you mix. I bought mine at Walmart. 23 grams of protein. They make a 35 gram bottles also. My sister in-law brought me some she found at a drugstore. That really helped. Pure protein has one with 30 grams and tastes pretty good in the chocolate. I don't like the vanilla in that brand at all. SAMs also carries Protein Shakes. I buy EAS advantage there, but they only have 17 grams so I use them as a snack usually. When you can have yogurt, dannon light and fit Greek yogurt is reall good. My favorite is the peach. I used the vanilla at first because it didn't have fruit in it and it is good also. You can also buy unflavored Protein Powder and mix it in your broths, even your yogurt or applesauce. I buy syntax nectar. I hope this helps.

Hi, I had gastric bypass October, 16, 2013. I am 66 years old. My only regret is that I didn't do this earlier. I was on 40 units of lantus and metformin twice a day. I took 4 pills a day for hypertension. I'm off all diabetes meds and take only 1/2 of one of my bp pills. I have lost 55 lbs so far and feel 100% better! I have to say I was really afraid to have this surgery, but I knew I had to do something to have a better quality of life. I can now walk without my hips hurting and climb stairs without getting out of breath. It is so worth it! Good luck to all of you who are in your sixties!

I am 67 years old and I have lost 50 ills so far, with 50 more to go! I was on 40 units of insulin daily and don't have to take any at all now. I have gone from 4 bp meds to only 1/2 pill for my bp. No cholesterol meds anymore either. I am so thrilled. I feel like I have a new lease on life.

Yes, it is perfectly normal to have all those feelings. We have all had them. It is totally worth any discomfort or anxiety you may have. Good luck to you and let us know your progress.

Congratulations on your super pre surgery weight loss and your upcoming surgery. I had my surgery October 16th and my only regret is I didn't have it years earlier. You will do great. The first few days after surgery are pretty rough, but after that it was smooth sailing for me. I am 3 months out, have lost 50 lbs and I feel great! I have more energy than I've had in years! Good luck to you, and let us know your progress.

Good luck to you Oakies on your upcoming surgeries. You will do fine. I had surgery 3 months ago and it is the best decision I ever made for myself. Wow, you're staying in the hospital 4 days? I only stayed one night and did fine. The first week is the most difficult, but after that it is smooth sailing. You won't be hungry after surgery so the liquid diet is no problem. In fact, it will be a challenge to get all your Protein and liquids in. Let us know how you do. Again, good luck!

Happy your past the surgery! I am 64 and almost six weeks out.... Everything went well and I am feeling great! I did have to have an unexpected belly hernia repair but other than that it has been much easier than I had feared!
I am off many meds and my type 1 diabetes is now requiring so much less insulin. Had lung damaging GERD that is now resolved.. I have dropped 14" and 37#'s .. 3 dress sizes..
The first week is the worst of it! I made my own Protein shakes( almond milk and PB2 ( powdered peanut butter) Krogers and Vitamin shop carry it.. Mix in pudding or yogurt and Protein Powder. I now drink GNC lean shakes ( pumpkin spice is great) and they also sell Quest Protein Bars that have 0 sugar and about 5 grams of fat.
My surgeon requires 64 oz fluids and 60 grams of protein ( wish I rarely reached until about 3 weeks out) he increased protein to 75-80 after a month.
Bowel issues normalized about then also... After adding more foods... Best decision I ever made! Know that the hormone changes do set u off balance for the first few weeks and then stabilize also
