    INSURANCE APPROVAL TODAY!!!
I have been walking this road slow and steady and I can see my "Oz" just ahead! Ultrasound for Gallbladder on Wednesday, Appointment with Surgeon next Monday and Nutritionist after that for pre-op diet. Looking like Mid May for surgery which is exactly what I was hoping for. I will have a month to recover and get a handle on new eating before I have to return to Grad school to finish up my last 2 classes in May and start an internship at the end of August. I'm hoping this will be enough time.
Excited and nervous...more excited than nervous though....at least today :-)

I am also two weeks post op. I have been eating a lot of tuna. I like to mix it up and not just have it with mayo. It's great with salsa and avocado I eat this last and don't always have room. Another thing I've had is refried (without the refry) Beans and green chile. I am so glad I'm not having trouble with spicy stuff!

So in case anyone else was wondering..I called AGAIN and found out from one of the surgeons who said there is no reason why I cannot have the surgery but instead of the sleeve I may need the bypass but he would not know that for sure until I do some tests. I really don't care which one I do, I'm just so happy I will be able to have bariatric surgery and begin a new phase in my life!

When i had my endoscopy initially my doc told me he thought i had Barretts Esophogus and that i could
Not have gastric sleeve if that were the case turns out i was clear but he said i might of only been able to have bypass or the band because of the pressure created by the sleeve. I had never heard about it before that day and wanted to cry because I had been looking forward to the gastric sleeve however it's really good that you know in advance that you have it so gastric sleeve may not be an option for you. At least no disappointments no surprises

Hey guys, well tomorrow is my day April21st.. I'm
Beyond anxious. Wondering is my house clean enough the the hubby ok taking over my usually duties. Dear god I hope he feeds the dog. Etc I'm shakey and anxious yet excited and impatient. I just want to do it already and start healing. Any last tips?? My anxiety is so high I feel like I am about to pass out I know I am being a baby but I can't help it. Starting weight was 273lbs but now I'm weighing in at 253.2lbs after the preop diet... I really want to get down to 135-145lbs. Is that likely possible? I'm 24 athletic flexible etc... Sorry I'm rambling. Good luck fellow 21st sleeves!!

darneka1 reacted to Maggy'sMom in 6 mo doctor approved diet
Hi. Just started my 6 month medically supervised diet yesterday. My doctor told me he wanted me to just start slow and to work on a couple of habits. He wants me to build proper eating habits so I will have the tools to fight back when my body inevitably wants to gain back the weight I loose. I'm supposed to start tracking on My Fitness Pal and to practice chewing until each bite is the consistency of applesauce. He would like me to loose 10 pounds. He said he wouldn't be putting me on a strict 1200 calorie diet but that is the diet included in my packet and on the written instruction sheet. I'm assuming the 1200 calorie diet is the standard they give to every patient. I've never had a problem losing, just keeping it of. If I stick to a 1200 calorie diet for 6 months I won't meet the critera for surgery. I'm seeing the NUT next week so I will ask then.
I signed up for the My Fitness Pal and it is so easy to use. It's fun to see the numbers tally up.
I would ask why your PCP thinks a diabetic diet is best for you. Usually there is a reason and if not that is your opportunity to discuss other options. Best of luck to you on your journey.

darneka1 reacted to Bufflehead in Issues with being alone after surgery?
I live alone and had no problems after surgery. I made sure to stock up on everything I needed. I did have my housekeeper come by for an extra visit to take care of things like vacuuming and mopping, because I didn't think I would have the energy for that. Also had her change the kitty litter boxes since lifting anything that heavy was restricted for me for four weeks. Other than that, no issues whatsoever. I was glad not to have anyone around -- I was able to focus on getting my fluids and Protein in, and to nap as much as I wanted, without anyone bothering me. If I had lived with anyone I probably would have sent them away!

I too had my surgery on the 14th. I went home last night and it felt so good to be home. I didn't experience any gas pain or any physical pain that wasn't tolerable. I did have discomfort up around my diaphragm but everyone said that was completely normal. I was given some pain meds right after surgery in recovery but nothing but acetaminophen afterwards. I did have nausea and the dry heaves all the way up to the morning that I left. But that to has passed. I am glad that my experience has been fairly easy thus far and can only hope and pray for a smooth recovery the those going in later this month. Good luck to u all.

Your standing out now in a good way. and as a bonus...Your getting healthier and stronger and more energy as you go along.! Working with inner city kids must be quite the task. But rewarding eh?
I have seen the movies based on true stories. But I always imagined that they were tame rather then true reality...
I admire your strength not only in regards to your journey. But also your fortitude for teaching children whop really need you.

I'm a teacher and I've always been the fat teacher. I work with inner city kids, so I've been called fat a$$ and other lovely names by some of my more precious darlings...
Yesterday, my students today were talking about their teachers. One asked if the other had that "big girl." The other said no, I don't have any fat teachers. I have that student 2 times a day :-) apparently I'm not a fat teacher anymore!!! :-D
Then I stopped the conversation because we don't talk about other people that way. In my head, I was dancing and celebrating tho!

I believe the doctors know that in the two week diet we will not be perfect. If we were any good good at following diets, we wouldn't be here. I think the reason they do this is to put us in a certain mind set. I had my surgery 4/2, BUT I had my first date of 2/5 rescheduled pending a sleep test. Then I had surgery scheduled for March 19. I was sent home from the OR because I was getting over a cold. At this point I started to think that the powers that be were trying to tell me something. They rescheduled me for 4/2 and I was thinking I might die, but I continued praying and asking God to please take care of me and guide the surgeons. I was so frustrated from the being on and off the preop diet that the last time around I just ate salads and my Protein shakes with some light snacking in the evening. I did follow the 48 hour liquid diet before surgery because the stomach does need to be empty for surgery.
Bottom line is all went better than I dreamed of. I had the expected pain but it was totally tolerable. The incisions didn't hurt at all. I just had some moderate right side pain which got better every day, and I have been taken off all blood pressure meds since discharged from the hospital!! I am 11 days post op and 14 lbs down feeling like myself again. The first 7 days post op are mentally difficult because you still think of food A LOT but trust me, no matter how much you want it, reality kicks in, you can't have it. I was so hungry I had a couple of baby spoons of split pea Soup which I regretted. I was sick for 24 hours.
Don't think to hard. God is on your side and the doctors know why you are there. Just make sure you absolutely follow the 48 hour liquid diet before surgery and do the best you can with the 2 week diet. You will be just great!! Believe it in your heart. Ask. Believe. Receive.
