I lived in San Antonio for ever I wished that I could have had my surgery there with Dr Michael Seger. I love his office. I'm in Abilene now had my lap band done with dr Einspanier. Just before his office closed. His patients were left to find new doctors without any help. I found Dr Warnock who took over my care and did my revision. Very happy with dr Warmock.

Mine was done open. My doctor said he does them open because that's what he prefers and can see more that way. I honestly don't remember if it was all staples or a combination of stitched and staples. I know my drains had stitches holding them in place. I was able to get one drain out before leaving the hospital the other stayed in just a little bit longer. I took off two weeks from work but wished I had taken three. I have very low pain tolerance I am a whimp but I kept my own as good as I could. I took my pain meds as instructed. My scar healed really well unlike my original scar from my band. That was done laparoscopic those scared really bad.

Ok so yet again a side effect of RNY that I don't have. I can drink as much wine as I used to. I don't get tipsy any quicker and I don't dump. Sometimes I wonder if I did actually have this bloody surgery, lol. The only effect from it I do have is hiccups!

My friends that know me they know all the hell I've been through and have never said you took the easy way out. Ps she is probably jealous.

This thread is going to be very embarrassing for me, but I've talked to ALOT of women who are 8 or more years out on this subject, wished I'd of talked to them sooner!!!
Before surgery I was warned OVER AND OVER again about alcohol!!!..did I listen, NOOOOOOooo. I was going to be the ONE who drank like she did before, This is the ONLY issue I REFUSED to listen to, I didn't want my surgeon or the PhD's to get in my 'Cup'. I did give up beer, only because of the carbonation, but what was I thinking, I wasn't!!
About a year out, I thought I was safe, I was a miraculous 115 lbs, entering 'Maintenance" , had my Vitamin regiment down pat. blah blah blah. Feeling accomplished. BARTENDER!!! vodka martini please!!! first one, feeling good, whooo hooo...did a body check, no pain in the pouch, cool, BARTENDER!!! Vodka martini Please!!! People, I don't even remember leaving the establishment I was in. I opened one eye, head pounding and my husband standing at the foot of the bed shaking his head!!!..OH GOD!! what did I do!!!...well apparently not much. One minute I'm sitting there socializing, next second, I'm on the floor. I was a complete puddle, he carried me to the car and poured me in. out like a light!!!..I consider that episode a fluke, wont happen again, I'll drink something lighter
DING! round 2: GNO aka: Girls Night Out.
This time I decided I'd better get a strategy. I'd eat first. well this time I ordered my fave: White Wine..loveeee my wine, or I did. 1st glass, good, milder and lighter than the martini, slower to get a buzz. good strategy. yay me, figured it out. Drank a glass of Water in between, good, no pain in the pouch, not to buzzed. 2nd glass good, THIRD GLASS, BAM!!!! Hit me like a tone of bricks, this time I didn't fall out, but my buzz factor incapacitated me, I knew I couldn't get up and walk. crap! I whisper to my gal pal, to take me home. EMBARRASING!!! ok fine, I get it, I don't need round 3 to teach me anymore lessons, I'm not hard headed. But I do miss hitting the Vino till 2 A.M. So I do have 2 glass on whatever with a Water back, and call it a night, or if its a dinner party, I drink water for the rest of the night, I mourned, and still mourn my 7-8 glasses of vino on GNO'S. thanx for listening, embarrassing as that was.

Typing this post from the gym this morning. Literally one year ago this morning, I was on the way to the hospital for the band-to-bypass revision... Today, I'm going to run 5 miles on the elliptical... Life has changed and I am so thankful for friends, family, and this community for the support and encouragement along this journey. As I often tell folks, I may have reached my weight loss goal, but the war of the scale and heart remains...always need to focus on maintaining a healthy weight and living life. Moderation is my friend. Binges are no more and emotional eating is always on my mind...... Reflection is key. It's not easy, but the surgery wasn't a magic pill -- just a tool among other tools to help me along the way. Maybe my new birthday will be Jan 21, 2013 instead of my actual birthday

Esophageal strictures are one type of stricture but anastomotic strictures may be more common with gastric bypass patients. An anastomosis is a surgical connection between two hollow structures. In the case of gastric bypass, it is the connection created between the newly created pouch and the small intestine. In about 2% of bypass patients, excessive scar tissue forms at the anastomosis and restricts the movement of food from the pouch to the small intestine. Strictures are uncomfortable but treatment is relatively straightforward and additional surgery is rarely required.

Good for you! On a normal diet carbs provide about 60% of the energy your body needs. But when you're on a low carb diet, your body will metabolize Protein for energy. No carbs + no Protein = no energy. Doctors usually recommend 60-80g for the ladies and 80-100g for the guys. Whatever protein goal your doctor gave you, you may want to consider increasing it by 20g or so for a week and see if your energy improves. Your body uses Water to process protein so keep an eye on your Water intake and do everything you can to get that 64oz a day in.
48 pounds in four months - great! It's always a bad idea to compare your weight loss to anyone else's. Just keep following the protocol as closely to the letter as you possibly can and allow your body to find its own way in its own time. Trust the process. That said, I'm sure you know the importance of exercise. Keep in mind that "exercise" is not synonymous with working yourself to exhaustion. For me the name of the game was walking. Plain and simple. Start slow and work your way up as your energy improves. It's easy, you can do it just about anywhere, and it will make a difference in your weight loss and your energy.
You're gonna love the new you!!

I stopped going to that forum after two months. Everyone here is friendly and will share their story and help out when needed. Everyone is positive. Veterans are not pushy or know I alls. I do the same thing. I ask for another plate to share or I ask for a box right away if I'm not sharing. Most of the time I share my plate or my family will share a bit off of their plates. I also am pretty proud of all the hard work that has gone into my journey. Do as you feel what you are most comfortable with.
