My Dr. told me that I would need Vitamin supplements for the rest of my life even if I eat the recommended amount of fruits and veggies because the food is not broken down the same way with so much of the stomach gone. She said that while it is true that the Vitamins are extracted in the small bowel, not the stomach, they are pre-processed by stomach acids in a whole stomach and they are not pre-processed enough in our smaller stomachs with less acid. I am day 15. I have been able to tolerate all foods added to my diet so far. I use baby spoons& I don't push it to the "full" feeling. If it's a new food I eat it alone the first time then wait to see if there are any affects. I am proceeding VERY slowly & cautiously. I don't think it's necessary to eat until the full feeling, right now it's about introducing foods back into our bodies.
I am going to show my age here....Oprah once lost a ton of weight on Optifast, I was reading about it yesterday. Since optifast is basically Protein Shakes, it's similar to us right now. She said what she didn't realize was that her metabolism was shot so when she began eating regular foods she immediately gained her weight back. Her body didn't know how to breakdown the foods. Another reason We need to go slowly adding foods back in, give our metabolisms time to come back. We don't want to regain what we have lost

We have to conquer our head hunger if we are to be successful & it scares me. The smell of certain foods still make my mouth water, of course I know I'm not hungry, it's in my head. But it's not stopping me from wanting it. Being around foods is still going to be a battle, we will have to keep reminding ourselves it's not real hunger.

The first week is the absolute worst. Walking is so very important, even if you have the take pain meds to do it.

I am at home, and for the meantime, feel like the pain and nausea are controlled.
I don't know why, but I guess I wasn't expecting the surgery/recovery process to be that hard. Is it worth it? Now that I am on the healing side, I am sure the answer will be yes. 48 hours ago, I am not sure I could have said it was worth it. I was in a real bad place.... Wowzers. I took a list with me of non-physical reasons I was going this and reminded myself of them often. That definitely helped.
Just being honest with the group. The surgery parts SUCKS....

Am felling great, very little pain, with the exception of my port removal area. It still looks like it's there, NP says its bood that will eventually disappear. I must say the pain & discomfort of my port area is the worst of it.
The good news is I no longer have pain in middle of my ribs from the band, it was unfilled for the last year but still hurt.

I'm 9 days post-op, started out taking 15 min walks, slowly increased each day. Now I'm able to take 30 minute walks 4x a day. It gets better each morning I wake up.

Got out of surgery at 1pm everything's went great had some minor gas pain but been walking every hour had some nausea but it's gone now. Feeling good right this moment

I never experienced any pain with sipping clear Fluid so far. I have to keep reminding myself no more than 4-6 oz/hour, I could clearly drink more, but I'm adhering to Doctors rules without deviation. I had cup of herbal tea last two mornings, it felt so good to have. I started walking around my street several times a day. Started off small, slightly increasing length each day. Today I felt really good during my two walks.

This thread is such a blessing to me, I am only 5days post op & freaking out that I made a mistake. I am still on Clear liquids & guess I'm feeling scared.

Got cold feet but after talking to my surgeon I decided to get sleeve afterall.....so far I'm feeling great. Red blood count was low and if it improves,I'll get to go home.

The below picture is what I looked like at my highest of 418 and where I am as of last night at 219. I showed this picture to my 3 year old daughter last night and asked her who the guy on the left is. Naturally she said "thats daddy". I asked her who is the guy on the right and she said "I dunno who is it?" She genuinely did not recognize that as me.
Folks that right there is why I had this surgery. I did not want my daughter to know the fat unhealthy me. And guess what I accomplished it. This was a huge win for me in this journey and it mad me very happy.

Our first group of March Sleevers will be this Monday!!!!!
