  1. OK, I have been sick, nothing serious, Just seasonal stuff. Alergies and all that. I havent had a fill in 6 months. (backround, I had poison oak for 3 months this summer and was on steroids to get rid of it. once off is when I stopped being able to eat) I can eat about one or two bites then I am stuck. BAD And in the mornings I get stuck on Water. I am scared to take alergy medicine because if water gets stuck so will pills. I dont want to get an unfill because Before this past month I could eat a hamburger...bun and all. But I dont really know what to do. :wink2: Sugesstions please.
  2. I have wide fluxiations in my band. The week before my period I can eat almost anything...I have almost No restriction for about 4 days...then the 3 days of my period I can ONLY drink Protein shakes and Soup. And then the other weeks it eases back till I can eat anything then back to nothing...and the cycle continues. My Dr and I are keeping a log of it. I dont know if it is the moon or my period cycle. but we are noting how I can eat every day. I am an extreme case. Nothing is wrong with my band...it is my body. BUT when I over eat I either will PB or I will just ache for a while.
  3. If I bend over when stuck not only will I PB but it will try to come out my nose...so I am really careful to NOT bend over when stuck...that is something when you experience once you NEVER want to do again.
  4. Not a problem. that is why we are all here to learn from eachother. I learned that when your sick the phlem from drainage clogs up the pouch hole and causes you to not be able to eat or pass food like you normaly would...SO I am trying the hot tea to break it up method lol seemed to work today...I am still swolen from the other issue but I am not getting stuck on water like I was before lol.
  5. I dont have a Warning BEFORE I am full I have it all AFTER I am too full. But I have had hiccups since before I was born. I was actualy worried about getting hiccups with the band because I thought it would make the band slip lol NOPE shoot sometimes I think it helps my food to pass thru better lol
  6. I can do bread in small amounts and I have no problem with meat...most meats that is...not Thick dense meats though... But I CANNOT do lettuce. I cant manage to chew it up enough to get it to pass. So if they give me a salid I eat the tomatoes...with out skins lol celery, cucumbers, crutons and everything else they put with it...maybe some of the crunchy parts of the lettuce but not much. I eat vegtables just not lettuce. So I dont see it as being unhealthy. there is not that many nutrients in lettuce anyway. lol
  7. OK I cant talk for everyone because all of us are a bit different and our bands act different in us. BUT I have No problem with nuts and seads...these work really well for me. Same with Peanut butter. Noodles I can usualy do. unless I am trying to eat too many to fast. Then I fill up pretty quick till they go down. Bread...well I can have bread...IF it is really toasted. But I usualy dont have it because it takes too long to go thru the band. As for being stuck...once again everyone is different. But I get stuck when I try to eat too fast...when I am TOO hungry...when I forget to chew completly...Or I try to eat something that I know wont go thru the band...for me that is pork chops or thick meat. And you WILL know when your stuck...I start to produce lots of saliva and I have an achie feeling in my upper chest...like I swallowed a pill that didnt go down (pre banded) And I burp...a lot. Or I will get the hiccups...and my nose will run. lol Sounds great right? But it is a physical reminder to myself that I cant shovel anything in my mouth anymore. Most of the time the food will pass on its own...it just takes time...if I really didnt chew or I have something that is too big to be desolved or I am creating too much saliva/slime for my body to handle then I will PB (productive Burp something like throwing up but with no stomach acids) Most of the time it will pass on its own though...I just have to be patient with it. I hope this helps.
  8. I would have to add that unless you "felt" the stomach acids when you puked you didnt really puke it was still a PB. You hay have heaved a few times but If you dont have the Puke taste then you only PBed At least this is my experience. I have been ill for a while and have a bunch of swelling and stuff (not band related) and I am totaly insync with puking and pbing. LOL My DR told me as long as it is not a regular thing you should be ok.
  9. I have to completly agree with this. Meals AND shakes together are not a good thing. I only have my shakes when I am so tight I cant really eat my calories. Right now I have swelling issues due to other issues and I even get stuck on Water. So I sip protein shakes all day to get my calories and protein in. annoying but knowing the swelling will go down helps lol
  10. LOL No I am a slow loser lol My body is just doing so really weird things...like today not on my period or anything but I am really tight. Havent had a fill but I am at super tight mode right now. only thing I can atribute it to is the full moon lol Who knows I am just recording it and going to let the doctor sort it all out.
  11. I am glad to know it is not just my weird body lol But I am afraid I will never have a true sweet spot because of the wild fluxuations lol I just know I have to be VERY careful because If I PB It makes it even tighter during that time. So I have to be extra careful about what I can and cant eat. and how fast I try to eat during that time.
  12. I am still here. lol I just dont post often anymore, too many negative comments lol But I am FINALLY under 300 and so incredibly happy about it too...I am a slow loser. And I am ok with that. My body hits plateaus and sits there for a long time. And I have severe swelling issues with my period so when I am at a good fill for the other weeks the week during my period I get stuck on Water lol My dr is a bit concerned about this but we are working thru it together. He said he has never seen somone fluxuate as much as me because of her monthly cycle. But I am losing for now so hopefuly we can stick with this plan I have lol But I am here and still loving my band even with all its quirks lol
  13. I also had Dr. Lusco. He is great! The whole group is great. You should definitly attend the meetings they have once a month. They really helped me. I would still be going if my life was not so crazy. I am a slow loser...but I am still losing. I have a hard time seeing how much I have lost...except when on the scale. I didnt have to do the 6 month thing I was lucky. And I feel really lucky to have gotten in with the great group at St Mary's They really helped me when I freaked out about some of the little things lol
  14. I love my band, because I will NEVER have to worry about weighing 400 lbs. I can walk up stairs. I dont feel deprived of food, because I can eat WHATEVER I want...just not as much as I used to. I have mental issues when dieting about not being able to eat something...with the band I can eat it. Maybe only a bite of it but I can still eat it. If I want french fries I can have ONE...lol More if I REALLY work for it. But the one will usually kill the craving. So the band lets me live life and not worry about every bite that goes into my mouth. I would do it all over again. lol only earlier lol I absolutly LOVE my band.
  15. WOW I am so sorry your having all those problems. I know I had an issue but Some people dont have problems flying with their band. I know that for me I need to Not have any solids right before or after a flight. I just mark them down as liquid days. Sorry to hear you have such an issue with it.
  16. I had an issue with flying I also couldnt eat for a couple days after the flight. I got stuck on yougart during the flight and I was not tight to start off with...It was pure hell for me I was trying to go on a cruse lol But the return trip I sucked on ice cubes and I was ok. No food, Just the ice. And I was ok. I will probably stick with Ice next time. maybe just water...But not eat during the flight. So yeah It is a problem for some of us. But not all of us.
  17. See my General doctor was all for me having lap band. She didnt want me to lose the weight quickly. Because she knew the risk of NOT learning better eatting habits when you lose quickly. I was disapointed in my weight loss of 76 lbs in a year and a half and she pointed out to me how much weight I would have gained if I had NOT had the band...I was gaining about 20lbs a year...so she told me that in her eyes I have lost 106. And that is weight that I will NEVER gain again...Where with bypass she tells me patients typicaly start gaining back in 3 years. where if band patients start to gain we can get an adjustment. And I felt better about all of that...I am glad your going to talk to someone else. Like I said I am a grazer...but I eat a lot less then I used to...and I chose protein first
  18. I am a grazer. I am losing weight slowly...But I don’t feel deprived. I don’t eat as much as I used to...and the Band is at its point where I am at full restriction...probably too much...but I am working thru it. As a grazer I have to think about the food I have sitting around. And to remember no drinking 1hr after eating and 30 min before eating...this helps me cut down on all the grazing. I hope this helps you. Even thru the rough times I have NEVER regretted getting the band. I just wish I had gotten it sooner. And I am super tight right now because of my monthly cycle. So if I can say I dont regret it being as tight as I am today...then you know I must mean it lol
  19. Way to go...I actualy am FINALLY in the 200lb range! 298! No more 300's for me! I am super excited!
  20. I am a slow loser. But I just keep plugging away...For me my body needs time to adjust to something before it clues in that this is the way it is going to be. I havent really been doing anything different in the past 3 months then I have since surgery...but my body is just now realizing it can get rid of some of that excess fat...and it is dropping off without anything too major or different on my part. When I started working out my body wanted to hold on to every lb. It just got moved arround to look better and feel better. That is just my 2 cents
  21. Thanks Chris. I am a bit disapointed in myself at times because I havent lost more...but I have to stop myself and look at what I have done FOR myself. I did this for a reason. I CHOSE this over gastric Bypass because I didnt like the super fast loss of gastric bypass. Slower is healthy to me. So I just have to keep those things in my head.
  22. Go talk to your Dr about it. I had not lost in almost 8 months So I tried to start over again...it is hard. But I did it. I am slowly getting back on track. The band keeps you from OVER eatting...not from making bad food choices. I count the small victories...like I have not gained in the almost 2 years. Where normaly I would have gained 15 lbs a year or more. So I count that as a loss for me. Start slow working out again. and reward yourself like you did in the beginning.
  23. When your 80 year old grandmother eats more then you.
  24. I have to agree with the above. I am a year and a half out and My biggest achievement and my greatest thrill is I am NOT gaining anything. I am SLOWLY losing...and not gaining and that to me is the biggest win.
