    Umbilical Hernia

Well I ended up having the hernia surgery on Thursday. I'm going home today! Gastric Bypass was a breeze compared to this. This is by far the worst pain I've ever had in my life! Glad it's over and I'm on my way to recovering!

    Umbilical Hernia

Thank you for your response, sassy. My surgeon did tell me to call immediately if it became strangulated. I asked him how would I know. His reply, "Oh you'll know!". Constipation, Fever, Severe Pain. Well I don't have a fever anymore, pain has lessened, and no constipation. Just this awful gurgling and rumbling. I guess I'll just sit back and try to relax. Hopefully I will be fitted with my prosthetic leg soon and then get this hernia resolved.
  3. I'm not sure where to post this so here I am. I had the rny in July, 2013. During the procedure my surgeon found I had an umbilical hernia ( I didn't know I had one). Since it was small and not causing me any problems he chose not to do anything with it at that time. Fast forward 170lbs lighter and one year later the hernia is causing me great pain and has grown to the size if a orange. One of the reasons it has become so big is I had a below the knee amputation a couple of months ago (long story you will find in a couple of older posts) and I am putting strain on my stomach muscles when I go to stand. My surgeon doesn't want to do surgery until after I am fitted with a prosthetic leg because the stomach muscle strain will cause the stitches and mesh to rip right out. Since seeing my surgeon and him trying to manipulate the hernia back in, I became really sick with diarrhea for six days. I do not know if it was related or if I just had a virus. I also had a low grade fever for several days. Now that I am feeling better as far as the diarrhea, I have this horrible rumbling noise in my stomach around the hernia site whether I have eaten or not. The. hernia is no longer hard or as painful but I still have some burning pain.i have a loss of appetite and food tastes funny to me. I am at a loss as to what to do or who to turn to with this. Does anyone else have or had an umbilical hernia? Any insight is appreciated.

July 2013 - Post Op Thread

I had my surgery July 2, 2013. I'm down 167 lbs. Pretty good considering most of the past year was spent sitting on my arse due to reconstructive foot surgery. ????
  7. Doctor took me off diabetic meds in April. the only prescription I have to take now is Gabapentin for the neuropathy. So very, very Happy!

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I picked up two pairs of jeans for $4.99 each at. Ross. My son is 27 years old and had never seen me in pants. I always wore dresses and skirts because I was heavy. I love getting compliments from family and friends but nothing compares to hearing my husband tell me how beautiful I look each day!

Foods that make you barf! Literally.

No such thing as an ignorant question. We are all learning here. When I say I vomited it wasn't the actual food (artichoke) it was foam. It just kept coming up. Since having the bypass I have not convulsed or thrown up actual food.

Never had a problem until Today. I ate steamed artichoke. I dumped so bad, vomited and vomited then had dry heaves. It was not a good day.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

When I started my journey 9 months ago I was wearing a 5x. I am now in a 2x. I was wearing 10w shoe and now wear a 10. I used to wear a 9 so I am curious to see if I go down a size. I've enjoyed so many NSV over the past nine months and I have no doubt you will too. On a side note I sold half my 5x clothes on eBay and netted over $450. I still have the other half to list which I will probably do in the next couple of months. Clothing that wasn't up to snuff to sell I donated to GoodWill. I loved walking in there one day to see some of my clothes and shoes for sale. It made me feel good inside. I know first hand how hard it is to find good quality used clothes at a good price. Happy NSV to come!
  13. Good to know I'm not alone in this. My doctor changed my meds again but I was still having the occasional low sugar drop. I had surgery on my foot three weeks ago and my blood sugar took a nose dive a couple of times when one of my nurses came on with my daily dose of metformin. His words were something like "Here is your metformin but you do know that you have the right to refuse any medication don't you?" I took the hint and began refusing my diabetic meds. I was in hospital for two weeks and home one week now and still not taking any diabetic medication. My blood sugar has been perfect each and every time I test. I have had no bouts of low blood sugar. I have an appt with my doctor on the 30th. Hoping she is in agreement with me stopping my diabetic meds.

My sister has ways been thin while I have always been fat. Going clothes shopping together meant I would help her pick out clothes for her to try on and give her the thumbs up or thumbs down. I always shopped on lone catalogs or specialty stores like Catherine's yesterday we popped into Ross where she picked up few tops, a skirt and a pair of jeans. I picked up three tops, two shrugs, a skirt and two dresses while she gave me the thumbs up. We had so much fun shopping together and it was the first time we both bought something from the same store since we were teens and mom bought us school clothes.
