  3. Hi Everyone, Looks like summer is here in the OC! It would be great to meet some of you OC 50 members and share some stories. How about meeting somewhere in Newport Beach or if anyone has any good ideas for a meeing place lets here it! Let's plan on a June Meeting (: I don't know about the rest of you but there is NO WAY I'm getting in a bathing suit (at least in public) this summer! My arms are so flabby it looks like I have wings... really! If I stand with my arms out and theres a strong wind I bet I could take off! Anyone else have this problem??? I guess I should get off my lazy butt and exercise. I hate exercise, face it... If I liked or enjoyed excercise, I wouldn't of gotten fat!!! duh! So when my doctor asks "Are you walking or doing exersicing? ( I can't even spell it) I'm not gonna lie. I just say NO. But now that I got these wings, I guess I should... Anyone got any good exercises for the upper arms???? Ok you OC 50s, think about a meeting place for June! Dori

Looking for a buddy! Surgery april 2!

Hey Jackie, my name is Dori. I had my sleeve done Dec. 17th 2013 so it's all pretty new to me too, but I can tell you I've lost 50 pounds so far !! YeahY! So don't worry that this won't work ..it will. You look really young in your photo, im 55 and live in SoCal. Well let me start with this... make sure you get Protein shakes you really like, thats important. I really like the ones that my doctor sells VHP brand. Ther pretty good but you need to mix them so ther not already prepared. Also get lots of "Isopure"...in the bottle. It's not a mix it's a drink and has 40 grams of protein. I really like it cause you can get your Water and protein at the same time. They taste great, you can order a case of 12 from "the Vitamin Shop" online. You'll find thats its really really hard to drink your 64 oz of water aday because #1 water will taste soooo grossssss now! and 2# you get so full from the shakes. What ever you do DONT EAT ANY food BEFORE 4 WEEKS. You wont feel to great if you do, pain and disscomfort..i know. Well kido, you hang in. Dori
  5. I'm thinking maybe the first Saturday in April.
  6. 50's in the OC! Thanks for responding! I'm in North OC too ... What day would be good for everyone to meet? Anyday after 12:00 is good for me ...so let me know. Let's plan on our first meeting in April! Looking forward to it!

    Struggling

Hi, I know how you feel about telling people your getting "Sleeved"...I thought about it along time before my surgery and decided ther were only 2 people that really needed to know, my husband and my daughter. I also told my older nephew whom I'm very very close to. I never told my sisters or my brothers or any of my friends. I just didnt want anyones opinions or advice. I had thought very very hard for over a year about getting the sleeve, the pros the cons ...everything. So my decision would be just that, MINE! I had to own it. I still have not told them to this day, its been since Dec. 17th 2013. Maybe some day I may decide to tell all, or not. Just remember, it's YOUR BODY, it's YOUR FUTURE and it's YOUR LIFE and it's looking GREAT!!! and it's only gonna get BETTER!!! So Hang in there !
  8. Hi, I'm 55, not a guy but I mayabe this will help.I had the sleeve Dec. 17th, 2013. I had no pain. I am recovering very well, have lost 42 lbs. After you go through the Protein shake phase that should last at least 4 weeks ( don't let anyone say your good after 2 or 3 weeks) when you transition into soft food JUST REMEMBER TO ALWAYS take SMALL BITEs and wait a full 30 seconds before taking another bite. This wil help you ALOT. You don't want your stomach to react with pain. This happened to me so I know what I'm talking about. Just take it easy and don't rush things. I know it seems like you just cant drink one more shake, but you can. Also to help me drink more Water (cause water taste gross) I add some lemon. Your energy will return in about 8 weeks and you will be suprised how much more you can do. So hang in guy! it will get better. Dori
  9. Any 50's living in Orange County California, I'm looking to start a new support group. I think it would be great to just hang out, talk and share our New Lifes! Or go for a walk, have a laugh or two or what ever. It's so much easier to talk to people that have been though this. Sure you can talk to a friend but if ther not going through this, it's hard for them to relate, as much as you want them to. SOOOOO how about 50's ??
  10. Hi, I'm 55 and just had my sleve on Dec. 17 2013. I had a very good recovery with no pain at all. I'm 40 lbs down and just now getting my energy back. I feel great when i get dressed for work and nothing fits me ...YES!!! I'm not really enjoying food anymore, It just doesnt taste that great to me.I don't know if that will change in the future. Anyone experience this?? Is there any 50's that live in Orange County, Calif.?? I really need a buddy
  11. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who does ... I'm looking forward to the day when it doesn't feel like I have air I'm my tummy when I eat... And yes I do eat slowly and small bites. So I'm not sure why I feel like this, but I can tell you I do not look forward to meal times. It's so much easier to have a protein shake. Thinking about food...yuck! Nothing sounds good or tastes good. Anyone having these issues ? .... I went back to work after 5 weeks... But I'm 55 not a youngster .

    loose skin after 50

Hi, I'm 6 weeks out now. If anyone ever says to me "you took the easy way out" I think I might just scream! Having the sleeve done was and still is WORK! Sometimes Pain! Sometimes Weakness! Most of the time its Scary! Scared of the Unknown...what's coming next? If I eat this what will I feel? If drink this what will happen? What's gonna happen to all this loose skin? Will I ever have the energy level I had before? I guess for any of us the future is a big ? I just wait and hope and do and eat what my doctor tells me to. And take one day at a time.
  13. Hi, I'm 4weeks post surgery and two days ago I got the worst pain in my upper back and chest. Has anyone experienced this?
