I did not shave, was not shaved by others and never advised to worry about that. Also, no catheter. However, one of the ways they got me to get up and walk post-op was with threat of inserting a catheter if I didn't get up to pee. It was hard and I was out of it as I wobbled through the recovery area, but I damn sure got up to pee!

No liquids with meals was something I did not think I could manage, but I've been great about it so far. Also, working physical activity into most days in the week is an amazing accomplishment for me! Now I don't feel complete if I haven't gotten some exercise in!

@lalajade....I had no known fertility issues. We weren't trying, but we also weren't trying not to conceive. I figured that with fertility rates dropping steadily after 40 and a lackluster love life, there was next to no chance of pregnancy. Go figure!

My surgeon was more concerned that I do not get anemic but he said I can still lose weight, and my diet is the same Protein first, no more that 5 grams of sugar or fat. Very supportive he knew that I was taking my birth control everyday. He said that it is because women become more fertile after surgery. He said that he has had many patients that have gotten pregnant after surgery and still had great success.

It looks like we're in this together!
Interestingly, I have not had any cravings yet. I have been more thirsty than before so I drink more Water. I'm eating the same and that has been fine with my body. Most of the time I'm still noticing signs of hunger, until I actually sit down to eat and realize that my body really needed some food.
I still haven't told my NP. I'll see her after I see my OB. Have you ladies told your surgery team? How did they react if you did?
It's helpful to have a mini-support group in you two!

As the first thing they want you to do after surgery is walk, my surgeon does not use a cath. And with them pumping IV Fluid the urge comes rather quickly after waking.
That being said, even with a cath, I don't see the need to be clean shaven. I was not worried, I make sugar wax at home to use. Cheap and easy, and for some reason my husband likes to help. Ok that was TMI.

Oh, and can I say one more thing?
As someone born in the late 60's, this whole shaving your pubes thing is weird to me. I'm not saying it's WRONG, just weird.....
That's not to say I haven't done it in the past. But the upkeep and itching was more of a hassel for me than anything. Besides, I keep it trimmed and minimal, so my hubby doesn't mind the natural look

There isn't even any hair on the urethral opening, which is where the catheter goes. This requirement boggles the mind.
Heck, most obstetricians don't require shaving for childbirth, which actually involves that general area! And if any of my obstetricians HAD required it, I would have dropped them like a hot potato!

I am 6 1/2 months post op and found out I was pregnant about a week and a half ago they think I am about 5 weeks 5 days pregnant and my weight when I found out I was pregnant was 221 lbs. from 307 lbs. I was down 85 lbs. but have recently gone up to 226 lbs. I eat about six small meals a day but find myself still feeling hungry I drink about 80-90 oz. of Water or any other Fluid with zero calories. I would like as i go through this pregnancy to find people that are going through the same thing and post about it. I was having trouble getting any info on this matter. I am excited but scared to gain all the weight back because of little info or proper dieting.

If you haven't watched Sense8 on Netflix yet, I would strongly suggest you give it a try! It's a visually beautiful show about 8 strangers who are mysteriously connected to each other - they can feel and see anything that the other can see. It's a really profound story all about how disconnected we humans have become from one another and how much would change if we could feel the pains and joys of others. Amazing show.

Not related to bariatric surgery, but my mother was 44 (almost 45) when she had my youngest brother. Her mother was 41 when she was born and 39 when my aunt was born. Grandma was an old maid and did not even get married until she was 37.

Jessica Jones- netflix, super-powered PI on a mission to take down a super-powered villian (played so evilly by the dashing David Tennant). Excellent series!
Daredevil- netflix (I'm not watching now, eagerly awaiting season 2). Blind, super-powered attorney who fights evil both in and out of the courts. I was not a fan of the comics or movie but this series is fantastic- well written, well acted, engaging story for superhero fans and non-superhero fans.

Yes indeed, congrats to you. I've hit my first stall (almost 6 months out). Increased carb intake over the holidays definitely has something to do with that. I'm trying to get back on track and get things moving forward (or downward) again!

I have similar concerns Teddy (I also work in a school setting). I have colleagues whom I needed to tell for practical reasons. However, I know how gossip spreads, even among "friends", so I made a decision to be open about my surgery to those who inquire.
In order to do that, I had to make peace with my decision and reach an internal understanding that WLS is not "an easy way out" or a "magic fix". It is simply a tool that will help jump start healthy changes in my life, but I need to do the hard work for the rest of my life. I will say that to any naysayers who may have negative criticism for my decision.

fruit makes me puke, but if it didn't, there is no reason to not incorporate it into a healthy diet with moderation. I can tolerate a half of a frozen banana tossed into a Protein shake made in the blender because it makes the drink a little sweeter and it also adds a lot of froth. Straight fruit smoothies all the time are generally high in both calories and sugar, which isn't really helpful on a diet, but fruit in moderation, like everything else is fine.
If you make a smoothie that includes veggies, throwing in a small amount of fruit can make it taste better. For example, I have taken frozen kale, half a banana, soy milk, and almond butter, stuck it in a blender and ended up with Protein, vegetables, and a taste that is tolerable because of the banana.
So many surgeons have these stupid ideas that their way is the right way and realistically, any doctor who tells you to never, ever eat something, if it is not because you are allergic to it, is not only unrealistic, but not acting in a very patient-centered manner.
