  1. I had a lot of problems eating the first 6-8 weeks. My doc monitored the situation but we waited it out and slowly it got better. As I went from one eating stage to the next, if I had problems I would just go back to the previous stage for a couple of days and keep trying to move on. Eventually, it got better and it is now a distant memory! Wishing you the best on this journey!

    Workout classes

If you can find a Pound class in your area--they are amazing! It is super fun and a full body work out that can be adjusted to fit any fitness level. Plus you get to use weighted drumsticks and make lots of noise!
  3. My first step was contacting my insurance company to make sure there was no exclusions and what their requirements were. After that, I contacted the surgeons office, had the seminar, psych and nut appointments etc. The actual approval was one of the last things i checked off my list.
  4. I had a conversation with my surgeon about this just today, He said sashimi is a great choice, rice is a no go and to get an app of edamame. He said that the sticky sushi rice with be hard to handle for a long time.
  5. Check with your doctor but I know I had some days with more Fluid than others. As long as it doesn't smell bad you're probably fine. If you are worried about a leak, drink something with blue or green food coloring. If you have a leak, you will see the color in the drain.

    Coffee

My surgeon allows 1 cup a day after 4 weeks but I don't tolerate it very well. I am sticking to tea for now.

    BCBSTX

I have BCBS of MI and once everything was submitted, my approval only took about 24 hours. I hope your wait time is short!

    Intimacy with partner

We waited 3 weeks and it was fabulous! I think as soon as you feel up to it, you can.

    I feel so depressed

I am curious, were you eating Protein or something else? Focus on Water and protein. If I were you, I would try to stay busy. Clean house, read a book, paint your nails, cross stitch, etc. Eating out of boredom is an old trap that we need to avoid now. Also, winter time can make anyone feel blue because the lack of sunlight. Try to get out in the sun when you can, maybe read in a sunny window. All is not lost because of one day. Get back to basics and take advantage of the opportunity you have been given!

    My first breakfast

I had cream of wheat for my first breakfast! It was yummy after the clear liquids! I hate my chewable Vitamins. I bought Centrium chewables and Viactiv Calcium. Both gross. I will be looking for different ones.

How did you document your journey?

I'm on youtube (vsgkimberly) but I also suggest taking lots of pictures and measurements.
  12. The older I get the less I care about the opinions of others. Do not waste another second defending your choices. Educate yourself about the pros and cons of surgery and make an informed decision. Once you have surgery. Use the opportunity you have been given to change your life and don't look back! Good luck!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

My surgery was 12/30 and I felt pretty good that day. Day 2 was really difficult for me. I had an allergic reaction to the contrast the hospital used for the leak test. I was broke out in a horrible rash and vomiting for the next 24 hours. Day 3 was better, I was able to drink some and not throw up. I came home on day 3. Today is day 4 and I feel better. I am really trying to get all my fluids in. I have to take small sips or I have a pretty intense pain in my stomach/chest area. I still have gas pain that I am trying to walk out. I can't believe how tired I am! I hope everyone is healing nicely! Take care of yourself today.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I am 24 hours from surgery!! I am feeling really good and excited but my 17 year old had a melt down last night and came home a day early from his dad's because he is worried about me. I feel a little guilty to put my kids through this. I know it is for the best for my future (and their future) but it is going to be rough for the first few days. Any advice on how to reassure my kids (20, 17, 15)? I have a feeling that the waiting room will be tense for them.
