jess9395 got a reaction from clsumrall in Intermittent Fasting
Not my experience. I have a sleeve and I do IF here and there for various reasons. It’s not about not eating all day, it’s about limiting the window during which you eat. Say an 8 hour window and then fast the other 16. So if you delay your first “meal” till 10am and have your last meal at 6 you’re good. That’s what I do when I do IF. And it doesn’t make me any hungrier than any other time. I still stop when I’m full.
A lot of vets do it for regain and it works quite well! -

Semantic shorthand. Brevity. Simplicity. Tradition. Lots of reasons to use that language, not always reflecting anything significant. -

My semantics was in regards to my own post. I don’t know the actual words she used, so my words may not encompass her precisely. That’s what I meant.
I don’t think anyone should judge until they’ve been there, which is precisely what she did. Before she even got to goal, laid out a judgement on vets on the board. -

Nope. Walking in the hallway & talking abt patient details is the kind of stuff covered in first semester of clinicals, in any part of the medical profession, as you know. No worries. My post was more of a stream of consciousness, a vent. Certainly not organized very well. ✌🏽

I'm still kinda torn myself if I will continue to consider myself a patient after a certain amount of time vs a person who had surgery
Semantics. -

She contends that anyone who stays “too long” has no life and should move on and stop considering themselves a Bariatric patient 🤷🏼♀️ -

I will say this... what worked FOR ME was staying very strict until I had changed my habits, my tastes and my gut bacteria. At that point I could aim for balance. But at that point I could have half a cookie or a few French fries without wanting the whole thing or bag. I also never felt deprived when I was strict. And I’m still pretty strict mostly because I don’t care so much... I really don’t care if I have bread or Pasta or whatever. So for me that IS balance. If I don’t care, why add it in? Balance means different things to different people.
However I think it would have been a huge mistake (again, FOR ME) to attempt “balance” too early out. I needed to relearn and retrain n myself.

She hasn’t regained any, the original poster. She only just reached goal this past week and said goodbye and left the group. -

I’m gonna be the odd duck here; but while I am truly sorry you had to hear what they were saying.... what is the HIPPA violation here? They were in a closed office with the door locked, taking amongst themselves. It was not meant for anyone else to hear, they believed they were in a private, secure, locked, closed office. They did not mention a name or any confidential medical information. They were letting off steam and venting in the black humor those who deal with life or death medical and mental health scenarios do.
I may get stoned for this, but what did they violate?

Thank You Danny Paul! We need your wisdom around here still! Don't selfishly desert us like someone I won't mention by name. Of course if she wasn't happy here.---- Bye Bye Felicia!

Plenty of us who eat that way aren’t retainers either though. It’s not a road that’s doomed to fail.
I think as we study and learn more we will be able to tell by your genes who will do well on what diet. But we are still in the dark ages.
There isn’t any one size fits all. I did the high carb low fat diets in the 90’s and those always ended in me falling off the wagon and regaining. I was quite strict on the low carb train till I got to goal. I’m still pretty low carb but I don’t stress about them a bit here and there.
I’m five year out and it works just great for me.
I know your plan is working for you (so far). Can’t we just all realize that there is no one size fits all answer? I know you’re certain your plan will be the answer for you. And time will tell, but since I think a big part of this is mental, I think it will.
But you make it sound like being a “carb nazi” means you’re doomed to fail.
I didn’t. It’s not a stop gap measure for me. It’s a lifestyle change and it works just fine.

jess9395 got a reaction from Alex Brecher in Do you prefer caffeinated or caffeine free coffee protein?
Caffeine!
And my doc never limited it. We could have coffee in the hospital if we wanted.

Sadly she reached goal and left with an announcement that basically said those of us who were at goal and didn’t leave have no life. Ah well! -

Yup. I’m five years out and still noisy as heck.
