A thread for Single Bandsters
I am thinking it is when I eat too fast or carelessly. I get caught up in conversation or watching TV and don't pay attention. I also know sometimes it is the foods. I used to NEVER slim or Throw up....my first episode was after my last fill. Then it has happened probably 15 times in the last month. But the problem is the foods that are soft enough for me don't have enough protein in them. I will talk to my Doc about the flight but I am worried that he won't know too much about it. He has been doing Gastric Bypass for years ut the Band for less than a year.

No one in Nov?
Oh you helped me lots....thank you! I thought I was going crazy and it was only me who got food stuck like that. I think I will get a fill, maybe just a smaller one. We'll see what the Doc says on Monday. My last fill was my third one too and it was about 1 cc or a little more to equal the total of 5.5 cc's. I was due for mine on Fri Mar 7th but asked them to move me up to Mar 3rd since I am leaving for Hawaii on the 13th. I wanted a week and half before I left to be here in CA in case there is a problem.

A thread for Single Bandsters
Well that is not all I am eating that is only an example of a meal...with my 2 snacks and meals I am taking in around 55-70 grams of protein and 1100-1300 calories a day on average. The flight to Hawaii isn't until 10 days after my fill that I am getting on Monday so I am hoping to be settled by then if I do get one. What I am worried about is what should I be eating (Calorie wise and meal wise) How do I know if I am at my "Sweet spot"? Yes that is what is happening to me...it happens about once a day. Sometimes I have to make it come up if it hurts too bad and won't move.

No one in Nov?
Hi all!!! Where is everyone at....Did all the November Bandsters dissappear??? I have some questions... I go for my 4th appointment since my Band was placed on Nov 7th. This is suppossed to be my 3rd fill but I am not sure if I should get one. I have the AP Band that can hold a little over 10 cc's and I have about 5.5 cc's in it now. For the first time since the beginning; when I had this last fill done on Feb 7th until about Feb 21st (2 weeks); I was having trouble eating anything until around 7 pm at night. Now that I am able to eat throughout the day over the last week I noticed the amount is getting a little more each day. Right now I can eat either 1-2 pkts of oatmeal for breakfast. OR I can have about 1-2 cups of salad and about 5-6 oz of meat. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know because I am worried, I leave for Hawaii on Mar 13th and I don't want to be back at how I was after my last 1 cc fill for two weeks throwing up almost every day when stuff would get stuck for 45 minutes at a time. By the way does anyone else get food stuck too???

Hi all!!! I go for my 4th appointment since my Band was placed on Nov 7th. This is suppossed to be my 3rd fill but I am not sure if I should get one. I would like to know from people who have had their bands for a little while or longer when they said that was enough of a fill for now? I have an AP Band that can hold a little over 10 cc's and I have about 5.5 cc's in it now. For the first time when I had this last fill done on Feb 7th until about Feb 21st (2 weeks) I was having trouble eating anything until around 7 pm at night. OR I can have about 1-2 cups of salad and about 3 oz of meat OR instead of just meat about 1 cup of a meat /pasta combo. The other day I was able to eat 2 small frozen burritto at one sitting but that is not the norm. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know because I am worried, I leave for Hawaii on Mar 13th and I don't want to be back at how I was after my last 1 cc fill for two weeks throwing up almost every day when stuff would get stuck for 45 minutes at a time. Where I had my Band done it is unusual...they said if you do either a liquid diet or a 1200 cal a day healthy eating diet before surgery and you lose even a few pounds it helps to shrink your liver so they can do the procedure easier. Since the telescopic instruments they use to do the Laproscopic surgery are thin it is easier to support your liver to hold it out of the way while they are working on your stomach. I actually got to see them doing a surgery on a video in one of my classes and I could see what they meant about the liver.

Thanks....I will see what happens. I am hoping since it has only been 7 days since my fill that it will still lossen up in the next few days. I know when I had my first fill it lossened up after about a week and I was able to eat more. I am trying to remember to eat the protein first but sometimes I get sidetracked and do the bite for bite thing.

That is a thought...I know I sleep on average a good 4 hours straight then maybe another 1-2 hours after I take my daughter to school in the mornings. Maybe I need to try to get to bed a little sooner and see if that makes a difference. I really like your idea about the fluids....I thought I was drinking enough with the 3 or so bottles of water plus the Hot tea and Propel...but maybe not...thank you all for the suggesstions I will try some out

Yeah I have tried drinking something warm like Decaf Hot Tea before an afternoon meal but just haven't tried drinking it in the morning....I will try that next I am getting enough water in...just barely but enough. I drink 3 bottles a day plus one to two bottles of propel. I also drink 1 to 2 large cups of Hot tea a day. Welcome Patti-cake.... Glad you decided to join in, this group is wonderful! If you have any questions just ask away.

That sounds good...any amount of protein in the morning will help me get closer to my daily goal. By the way what should I be having I have heard somewhere in the neighborhood of 65-100 grams of protein a day? I did buy some fish the other day... I am going to try this too. I haven't tried that yet...I did order some Unjury yesterday(waiting for that to come in the mail) I don't know if you have heard of it but it is Unflavored Protein Powder and you are suppossed to be able to mix it in anything. I haven't tried it before but we'll see how it goes. I hope it doesn't taste funny... I was thinking I could put it in my watered down oatmeal or vanilla yogurt because each scoop is 20 grams of Whey protein isolate. I am just so terrified of getting an unfill of any amount. I have heard of so many people who do that and start gaining weight. I have my follow up with my surgeon on Mar.3rd if I can wait until then I will see if I still need to do an unfill or maybe it will be ok by then and I can leave it alone. I just hate going to see the surgeon just because he is so far away. It takes me a little over 2 hours just to get there and I have to pay 2 Toll Bridge charges ($8) each time I go out there.

Thanks but yes I have tried that... I had a whole cup of really warm almost hot Decaf Green tea waited a few minutes then tried to eat and still no luck. It always gets stuck for at least 25 minutes sometimes longer and I then give up on wanting to eat anything until later.:frown:

I have a question for someone...anyone who can answer... I am having trouble eating since my last fill...and to think it was only my second fill ( I am at approx. 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band) I am getting the calories in (mostly at night) but not the amount of protein needed. When I look back in my food logs I am only taking in anywhere between 25 - 40 grams protein a day. It has been extremely hard especially since I seem to not be able to eat anything thicker than yogurt until sometime after 5 pm in the evening. Thank goodness I am up really really late since I work Swing Shift and don't go to bed each day until around 3am- 4am; but being up around 10 in the morning and not being able to eat much of anything until around 5pm-7pm is hard. I have tried everything I can think of... even most protein shakes are too much in the mornings. Any suggestions???

Been a while since I have been on here. How are you all doing? I am doing well. I am just over 3 months out from surgery and total weight loss since surgery is 20.5 lbs. I had to wait 3 extra weeks to get my first fill since my Dr.was hurt and out of clinic for a few weeks. I was suppossed to get it by 12/19 and didn't get it until 1/7; so I just got my second fill this week... WOW how aweful that was!!! I was so nervous on my first fill and he was in and out in a snap...didn't even hurt. So this time I went by myself thinking it should be a breeze. Well it wasn't!!! My port was not cooperating with the DR. and he tried for about 15 minutes before taking me downstairs to do it under flouroscopy. Not a big deal then. He couldn't figure out what the problem was because when he saw it under x-ray it was in the perfect spot. Oh well, he said we shouldn't have any more problems in the future...I'm praying for that one!

I am from CA...nice to meet you! Thank you! How have you been lately? And to stilljackson.... I went through a similar program through my insurance company and I thought at first I would never make it to the surgery day and I did; yes it took me a year but I thank God it did, because I was able to get a better respect for the "tool" I was acquiring. I am not the same as everyone else and so I am only speaking for myself but I can say that looking back now if I had just gone and done the self-pay route and had my surgery in a month or so like they offer it. I would not have understood nor would I have appreciated it as much as I do. I know it seems silly all the stuff they put you through but they just want everyone to understand that this is only a tool and we still need to work at it. My insurance company had me do a "Psych Eval" - this is how they determined what help I might need after the surgery if any; I only had to do one appt. with the Psychiatrist. I had to meet one on one with a Nutritionist as well. They also asked me for information on how I tried to lose the weight in the past. All I had to do was document it all for them ( not sure what yours expects). I attended a monthly support group which was wonderful too; I made friends through it. Some people in the program had their surgery in as little as 3 months but for me it took almost 1 year to the date. My orientation class was on November 14th 2006 and my surgery was on November 7th 2007. I truly thought many times along the way that this was way too much...but I persevered through it with God and I made it! I know you can too!!! Just keep praying on it and always keep in mind that there are many people out here praying for you as well. May God bless you in what ever decision you make!

Hi all!!! I am an old/newbie.... I used to use frequent this site DAILY to talk to people who had this surgery but ever since my surgery in November I have only been on here about 2 times. I feel like I am loosing touch with myself, since I am not concentrating on the changes I am going through. I am also noticing a lot of difficult things I have been dealing with since the band and I have not looked to any fellow bandsters for advice. So I have decided to come back and start again getting to know people and sharing stories. A little about me... I was banded on November 7th, 2007 When I started the program at my hospital I was 416lbs. At the time of surgery I weighed 383. I am currently 362.5 as of yesterday when I went for my 2nd fill. I have an AP Band (10-11cc) I am currently filled to 5.5 cc's I have lost 53.5 lbs since the beginning and 20.5 since surgery 3 months ago. My first fill was a breeze, I was so nervous for nothing, the Dr. was right in and out witht the needle hit it on the second try. Then came yesterday.... I went in for my second fill not nervous because of how well the first one went and then he tried and tried and wasn't able to get it. He kept slipping right off the side of the port... after being stuck 4 times he sent me down to x-ray to have flourscopy done so he can see the port. He was able to get it this time on the second try! He apologized to me repeatedly because he said the port is in the perfect spot...doesn't know why he couldn't get it. So now today...I am still feeling a little sore and sick from yesterday but starting to feel better! Well enough rambling on for now. I hope all of you are having a blessed day and I will talk to you soon!

No one in Nov?
Hi all... Been a few weeks since I have been on here. I have been keeping myself busy. I have to say how excited I was when I went in for my first fill on Monday and I found out I had lost 6 lbs in the last 6 weeks. Now I know it is only about 1lb a week but that was before my first fill and it was over the Holidays too!
